Sox @ Royals, Sox @ Royals, 8/21 x 2
danman31 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in 2010 Season in Review
QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Aug 21, 2010 -> 08:57 PM) Wow. That was impressive. Could we stretch out that arm to be our #5 next year??? That's supposedly the plan. He wasn't drafted to be a reliever. Innings cap this year has him as a reliever now. He will start in the Arizona Fall League and spring training. -
Gwinnett @ Knights Dolsi Huntsville @ Barons Leesman Dash @ Potomac Serafin Intimidators @ Greensboro Collop Voyagers @ Ogden Schatz Bristol @ Bluefield Casey

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 10:05 AM) I actually had to google this because I don't remember it. I'd argue that they first met Michelangelo when he was a teenage mutant ninja turtle. Absolutely. This one stuck out to me as odd as well. There were quite a few that aren't all that good.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 25, 2010 -> 06:46 PM) They don't allow free ones anymore. That's absurd. Are they basically saying they don't want new members anymore? That's a large chunk of their potential audience they're getting rid of. I logged in just to see if I was banned and apparently I hadn't logged in since 2004. Wish I would have left it that way. I had enough of the strict rules over there. This place is great.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 20, 2010 -> 04:54 PM) Hmm, cool. I'll have to remember to get on twitter and check that, but thanks. Yeah there's an update for every game and top prospects will get mentioned every game. Other top performers from that game as well.

Proof of what we already knew: White Sox cheapest in MLB Draft
danman31 replied to maggsmaggs's topic in FutureSox Board
The '08 draft was in the bottom third of money spent and is easily in the top third of performance and overall value. I won't sweat it because it won't change overnight. These kids are getting WAY too much money. How exactly is spending up each of the last two years? I don't see how the 30th pick in the draft warrants a million dollars given the track record of 30th picks for example. -
Winston-Salem, Kanny and Bristol all got rained out but we still had 3 games. Knights won 4-3 Hynick Barons won 4-3 Long Voyagers lost 8-7 Delk

QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 07:42 PM) Is anyone else having trouble on ESPN.com? Every time I go to it to check my fantasy team my browser stops working. They just changed their site, hopefully they're just working out the kinks. Are you having trouble running flash on your computer? I had issues with flash a few months ago and ESPN had a hard time loading during that period.

Sox draft signings and reporting places
danman31 replied to southsider2k5's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 03:05 PM) When is it next up for renegotiation? In terms of draft slotting, MLB isn't the league with the worst problem and I know that the league with the worst problem is liable to start its lockout shortly after this year's Super Bowl, so it'll be interesting to see how that plays out before baseball's CBA comes up. By that time, it's possible that MLB could have the most unlimited/troublesome draft contract system. That article says after 2011. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 01:31 PM) Don't you also have to account for the likely correlation between draft slot and amount spent, beyond just looking at the total # of picks? Sure, but that only really matters in the first round. What you should take away from this is that the Sox are not rare that they don't go over slot and aren't bottom of the barrel in spending. I really hope the new CBA changes the draft. It would be much more fun to follow if they were able to limit slots. -
There's no way Hudson is this good. 10 K to 0 BB? That translates to the NL being no better than the International League at this point. How's John Ely doing? Stop rushing to judgments after 4 starts. If you did that after his first four starts, everyone would love the trade.

SOX @ Twinkies Danks (12-8 3.19) vs. Baker (10-9 4.76)

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 17, 2010 -> 10:08 PM) Seriously, you have no complaints about the massive failure he's had in the 9th inning of 3 of the last 4 games here? That's such a tiny sample to complain at all. Konerko is OPSing above .900 with runners on, RISP and RISP w/2 out. 1-7 with the bases loaded. Oh well. He's still a star and clutch isn't a problem. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 17, 2010 -> 10:06 PM) Yet can't get a big hit late in the game to save his life. So you want the guy to hit .500 in Target Field to be satisfied. Yeesh. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 17, 2010 -> 10:01 PM) Massive choke by Konerko in 3 of the last 4 games in Minnesota. 10-26 in Target Field this year with a .984 OPS. I assume that's before tonight's game too. -

I'm feeling positive vibes. The Sox have come back twice tonight. Someone has to say something positive, geez. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 17, 2010 -> 09:54 PM) Oh boy, they have Konerko set up for the offspeed pitch. What kind of offspeed pitch does Capps have? You would think if he had one he would have thrown it to Paulie. 7 fastballs in a row is usually not a winning game plan to Konerko. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 17, 2010 -> 09:57 PM) Damn...of course. Konerko continues to just kill us in these games at Minnesota. He has a home run tonight. Killing us. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 17, 2010 -> 08:47 PM) Some versatility we have with the rotating DH. 0-22 vs LHP, what a disgrace...YOU SUCK OZZIE! I highly doubt any manager in the bigs pulls a guy 2-2 with a HR and a double in the 5th inning just because of lefty splits. Especially in the AL. -
Rienzo 6 IP, 2 R, 7 K, 4 BB, 4 H. Solid other than the control.

Josh Phegley promoted to AA, Jason Bour sent back to High A. I guess the Sox think he is healthy. After two stints on the DL I thought there was no way he would be able to stay healthy in the long run. He has played well since his 2nd return. He's even thrown half of his runners this year.

Final round of Champions League qualifying underway today. BSC Young Boys is killing Spurs right now. 3-1 at half, it was 3-0 before a half hour. I always love rooting against the English teams in the Champs League, but it would be extra hilarious for Spurs to not even make the group phase.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 17, 2010 -> 12:42 PM) I believe you get compensation through the 1st 4 rounds. But that is off the top of my head. And I will be interested in seeing how this ups Loux price. He's a talented project. First 3 rounds. -

QUOTE (OilCan @ Aug 17, 2010 -> 12:08 AM) Judging by recent history I wouldn't be surprised if the Sox did draft Grimes and Terry again in 2-3 years. Terry will be a junior at Cal St. Fullerton this year. He will be eligible in the 2011 draft. -

Harper didn't get a lot of hype, but it sounds like he's getting $10 million. -
