QUOTE (scenario @ Sep 19, 2010 -> 10:58 PM) What... am I wrong? Did you want them to lose? You referenced J4L, not JPN. Careful when you make up abbreviations haha.
-
Yeah, I was kind of hinting at that. With Sale, Beckham and even Hudson the Sox have produced 3 solid Major Leaguers in a short period of time. Morel and Viciedo are on the cusp. The system had near-ready talent, it's now turning into ready leaving the system mostly dry.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 17, 2010 -> 10:44 AM) I do think the system is starting to improve again a bit, but is severely lacking in guys who are near ready to make the jump, not including the guys who already jumped this year (Sale, Viciedo, Morel). Looking for guys who could do that in 2011, there's just nothing. So yeah, Charlotte will suck again. The thing is, the system couldn't get much worse. It's been raided with graduations and trades. It was average to below average to begin with. Throw in another quick riser like Sale and the system just doesn't have the time to recover. I'm not that offended by the talent the Sox are producing. It's actually been ok, but they haven't been in the system at the same time to make the system look good.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 10:38 PM) Um, why? I'm pretty sure 99 out of 100 Sox fans have no idea who Chase Blackwood is. I know I didn't before ol' girl joined the site. Your sarcasm meter needs fixing.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 13, 2010 -> 11:56 AM) And really I meant this year, since I think you probably would agree that last year Michigan was not a top 25 team (at least I hope you would). This year is starting off the same - win against a team you should beat at home and a win against a much overrated and overhyped Notre Dame team. Last year Michigan ended up at 5-7. And I think that except for Penn St, the top of the Big Ten is even better this year. Is Michigan better than last year? Maybe. But still not top 25. It's a pretty safe bet that Michigan is better than last year. They already equaled last year's total of 2 wins vs. BCS caliber opponents. Last year they were really bad. I think they're a much more talented team. We'll obviously see, but I don't know why you are so set on Michigan being bad again. -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 12, 2010 -> 09:32 AM) Based on what exactly? Beating an (always) overrated Notre Dame team that had trouble with Purdue (one of the worst teams in the Big Ten) a week ago? When Michigan can stay within 14 of the likes of Ohio State, Iowa and Wisconsin, I'll consider them a good team. Until then, they're an over-hyped team with a name. I said top 25, not top 15. 9-3 makes them a top 25 team. With 2 cupcakes, Illinois, Indiana and Purdue on the schedule I don't see why that's unreasonable. I think they can beat one of Penn State, Iowa, Wisconsin or Ohio State. Michigan has two wins over BCS teams that were bowl eligible a year ago, I don't think anyone else can say that. They're not a powerhouse, but they're not overhyped when they started the year unranked. -
Minor League playoffs: should you care?

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 12, 2010 -> 02:17 AM) I still can't believe people are following the minor league playoffs. lol. I'd rather watch a midget f*** a possum. How is it different than a regular season game? It's still evaluation time for White Sox prospects. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 12, 2010 -> 12:03 AM) Its probably true, he dominated when in. UM's defense is weak but it takes a QB to exploit it. That may be, but Michigan is a solid team this year. Definitely top 25 material. Not sure why everyone was so down on them still. They've recruited well enough that once Rodriguez has a few years of his players, it's just like West Virginia again. -
QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Sep 11, 2010 -> 12:58 PM) Cant believe you are still patting yourself on the back over something most thought was going to happen. Haha well said.

QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Sep 11, 2010 -> 11:57 AM) What you don't understand is that it is not possible for an SEC team to lose to anyone outside their elite conference without some kind of excuse. It HAD to be the referees fault. Any missed tackles, turnovers or failed first downs earlier in the game don't count whne making such excuses! Danman, I figured you for already understanding this rule.... Haha touche. Good to have you in this thread again. QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Sep 11, 2010 -> 12:04 PM) What conference do you suggest they join? I admit the system is unfair for them and most conferences would not take them. The MWC was a great move, though BYU and Utah leaving hurts a lot. Still, I think having TCU in their conference will help a lot. It adds an extra marquee game. If Nevada and Fresno join, Boise's chances of a national title game appearance probably go way up. I lost a good amount of respect with this Nebraska story. They turned down a home and home because they wanted to get paid as well? You can't complain about scheduling if you turn down a spectacular offer like that. -
Great Falls lost game 1 of its playoff series. Hopefully they can bounce back and the Sox can have 2 affiliates in league finals.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 05:26 PM) You think that's tough? Try vs Oregon, vs Florida, @LSU, @Georgia, vs Alabama, @South Carolina as a stretch of 5 out of 6 games (with only UAB in there b/t FLA and LSU). Of all years for Tennessee to be down, we have to play that schedule. I don't think there's a harder stretch in the country. Haha yeah. I wasn't really arguing that Missouri has a tough schedule. I just referenced them because I'm familiar with the schedule. Most BCS teams will have a tough stretch to some degree and that's my point. It's not one game that defines a season. It's the ability to go through a brutal portion of the schedule and come through unscathed. That's what makes the SEC what it is. Even national champs haven't made it through undefeated. -

QUOTE (kev211 @ Sep 6, 2010 -> 11:24 PM) I love how people continue to say this about Boise, and Boise just keeps going out there and beating top 10 teams. How much more do they have to do? Play tough teams three weeks in a row. Run the gauntlet Missouri has this year. @ A&M, vs OU, @ Nebraska, @ Texas Tech consecutively. One or two games don't make a top team. It's consistently playing and beating top 40 teams and still being able to win those top 15 match ups. How often do you see a team make a big statement win and then lose within the next two weeks? The whole argument against playoffs is that every game matters and it's tough to go 11-1 or undefeated in a tough conference. Boise has 2-3 games each season, not exactly what champions are made of. I will never respect Boise until they join a real conference. The Mountain West is an upgrade, but with BYU leaving I'm not so sure it's a big difference from the WAC. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Sep 6, 2010 -> 10:35 PM) Boise is a solid team, still think they would lose 3-4 games in a major conference. They had a bunch of calls go in their favor down the stretch which took away from the game significantly IMO. Agree on the 3-4 losses, but the bad calls didn't really cost Va. Tech that much. Boise gained significant yardage every play but one that drive? They were going to score 80 yards with no defensive penalties that drive. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 6, 2010 -> 10:39 PM) Worst playcall of the night was VT throwing on 3rd and long with a little over 2 minutes left. They should have let Tyrod run with it, and at least milk 40 more seconds off the clock. Yeah, that was dreadful. 2 minutes with no timeouts is plenty. 1:20 with no timeouts is getting to the point where a sack or time wasting play drastically affects your playcalling. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 6, 2010 -> 10:41 PM) I really really really really really really really hope Boise can sneak into the title game this year. Are you a fan of title games that are over by the 2nd quarter? -
Yeah, Gartrell led the lead with 152. Not good obviously. Danks will have to show the ability to adjust his swing. It's the only way he'll make it.

From what I saw last week, Illinois is probably better than last year. The Illini will struggle on offense, but the defense had quite a few pretty sound tacklers. This isn't a team that should lose to the likes of SIU or NIU at home.
