QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 28, 2011 -> 04:53 PM) I think you are confusing elite with good. There are only maybe 5 elite jobs, and UCLA and Indiana are not in that grouping whatsoever. OSU will probably never be an elite bball job, mostly because its an elite football school first and foremost. Usually elite bball jobs are not elite football schools. How in the hell is UCLA not an elite job? Just because they are having a couple bad years? They were just in 3 straight final fours and have as many national titles in the last 20 years as Kansas. Jimmer is at it again. Just nailed a deep NBA 3 off the dribble with a hand in his face. -

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jan 28, 2011 -> 06:10 AM) Illinois 5-10 years ago was a top job, now it's just an good job. I don't think that's true. If Illinois was a top job 5-10 years ago, Self wouldn't have left for Kansas. -
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 27, 2011 -> 10:11 PM) Even if he's destined to be a reliever? If that's what Law thinks I can totally understand the ranking. You're simply not supposed to invest high-end picks on eventual relievers. I understand it, but I still think it's a little low. The guy has already proven he can get Major Leaguers out. Based on his floor alone, I find it hard to believe that 66 guys in the minors have more value than that.

QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Jan 27, 2011 -> 10:33 PM) Rushing the court was bad, but we've been through hell the past three years, does not bother me much. Yeah, let's be honest here, the seniors haven't seen many bigger wins. I'll give them a break, plus I like seeing Indiana fall so low. Also, Saint Mary's/Gonzaga is one of my favorite match ups every year. Another solid game brewing now. -
Keith Law put Sale at 67 in his rankings and didn't include any other Sox. A little low on Sale, but we know he doesn't like Sale much. He reasoned that he was a reliever and won't be a starter.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 27, 2011 -> 07:32 PM) This is where your eyes come into play. If you've seen Andrus or Escobar even a few times you can see the special defensive ability they have. Metrics are nice and good for the game. But to rely on metrics alone is futile. That's all well and good, but I think the debate really hinges on the value of defense. Through all the new metrics coming out, I think defense went from vastly underrated to a tad overrated. That seems to be how it goes I guess.

Michigan State just punched their ticket to the NIT. What a joke. -
Yeah, it comes down to how many hits does a top tier SS save vs. an average one and how many hits does a guy with a mid .600 OPS cost his offense.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 26, 2011 -> 11:43 PM) Thing is, Fredette is good enough to carry a team by himself to an elite 8 run or so, very Stephen Curry like if you will. I mentioned this during the game. BYU has a solid PG that can get him the ball and Fredette plays a combo 1/2 as well, similar to Curry. I liked the rest of Davidson better offensively, but BYU plays some tough D. It's tough to predict what BYU will do in the tourney because if Fredette has a s*** game, they lose. -

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 26, 2011 -> 10:22 PM) Had it last year at school, of course don't have this year though, ugh. Jimmer torching the Aztecs per usual but Kawhi and company staying in it. Appears to be a great game so far. It was a decent game. Fredette is Reggie Miller like. He even got a foul call on a flop when he stuck his leg out. The rest of BYU is about as bad as you can get offensively though. He scores absurd numbers because if he scores only 20 they get smoked against anyone decent. Defensively they impressed me. I'll have to watch the return game because I think SDSU might be the better, more dangerous team in the tourney. -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 26, 2011 -> 09:01 PM) Two top 10 teams are playing, and it's not on national TV. I like tennis and the Australian Open as much as the next guy, but for a game like this, I think ESPN can switch to the basketball game. It's on CBS College Sports so technically it is on national tv. It's just not on a channel a lot of people have. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 25, 2011 -> 09:14 PM) I guess it's just that you've already raised your expectations for the team to a national contender level, but after the b.s. of the mid 00s I'm still just really happy we are a force in NCAAB. Not that. I don't think that they've played like a top 15 team at this point. It has nothing to do with expectations and them being a 'disappointment.' It's about seeing them on the court and being suspicious of going to OT at Oregon and getting spanked at Colorado. They seem to be improving though. Saturday at Texas will be a huge tell. -
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 25, 2011 -> 04:24 PM) Escobar over Dayan and Mitchell, eh? Very interesting. Yeah he went from under the radar to overrated.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 24, 2011 -> 02:13 PM) I find danman overly hard on mizzou. I may be, but it's a tough team to watch. They are so fun, but it's almost always going down to the wire. Hard to take that. I feel the system is more dangerous come tourney time anyway. Next year's team should be contending for the final four though. -

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 23, 2011 -> 01:53 AM) LOL, Mizzou is such a bad matchup for us. Maybe you shouldn't try to run with the team that likes to run. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 23, 2011 -> 03:32 PM) Oh, and Michigan State sucks. I have no idea how they're still ranked. Their schedule has been out of this world. All four of their non conf losses were against top 10 teams. -

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 22, 2011 -> 06:06 PM) You ready to score 110 points tonight? Ha I saw your line of -14 on Rock M and think that's laughable. It's always entertaining with Mizzou. They might pull away late, but we haven't blown out real teams this year. -

QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Jan 21, 2011 -> 10:23 PM) And with that, I will officially change my name back to SoxAce. Consider it done.

Robinson isn't officially gone yet. I'd be surprised if he left, because I can't see him wanting to wait a year. If he leaves (along with Forcier who would have been a competent starter), it likely will be Rich Rod's first year all over again. -

Hey Chimpy, how is Snaer doing? His numbers are disappointing for a pretty big recruit. Also, K State loses to Colorado in Manhattan. K State is a complete fraud team. Pullen gets all the credit, but Denis Clemente was damn near unguardable. He's as fast as it gets on the ball. Losing him was way more important than anyone in the media was willing to admit. -

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 8, 2011 -> 01:59 PM) WTF Mizzou? Colorado having their way with the #8 Tigers. K-State and Oklahoma State a fun game so far. I've said it on here before, but Mizzou just isn't that good. Colorado seemed to get every bounce, but that's a totally embarrassing loss. I wouldn't be surprised if the Tigers finish the year outside the top 25. -

The problem with Rodriguez was that the fans didn't realize how hard the transition was going to be. Switching to his system with those players (and QBs mostly), that team was never going to make a bowl. Rodriguez was fighting an uphill battle from the start because of that. At least the team was showing improvement, but at the same time I think the bowl game made the decision easy. If you're 30+ points behind Mississippi State, I can't imagine Michigan was going to contend for the Big Ten or anything close in year four. -

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jan 4, 2011 -> 12:14 AM) Whoa. Oregon was leading that game at halftime. Stanford had a lead after one quarter. If a team is too tired to play after the 1st quarter and that's the reason they lost, they aren't very good. They looked good early and then couldn't stop Oregon the rest of the game. There was no killing. You can support a playoff, but I'm not sure this is the game that quite does it. Stanford was up 7 at half. It was a bizarre game. Stanford led 21-3 and then got outscored 49-10. I absolutely think this supports a playoffs. Can you honestly tell me that you watched Stanford tonight and didn't think it would be cool to see this team play TCU or Auburn? I know they played and lost to Oregon and it was clear who deserved to be in the title game this year, but every year there are a few top teams that finish the year so strong. I want to see the hot teams play each other. No more questioning how good a team like Va. Tech actually was because they got killed. We already know Stanford is very legit and TCU is very legit. Let's see those teams play again against another hot team that's very legit. Frankly, given the popularity of playoffs in this country and in the rest of football I don't see how anyone can say a playoff wouldn't be infinitely better in every way possible. I want someone to argue that the NFL should get rid of the playoffs and just vote for the Super Bowl contenders. Having no playoff in college football sounds as dumb. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 3, 2011 -> 08:36 PM) Bill Carmody is a very overrated coach. Well on his way to missing the tournament again, and his coaching in the last 30 seconds of tonight's game was awful. I won't comment on the first part, but the second part is absolutely true. -
I work Friday night, but might be able to make a late arrival. If Jason goes I'll put in the effort.
