  1. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 02:40 PM) Texas prolly goes with a signable guy right here, so that with the 24th pick they can grab Porcello and break my heart. You are building yourself up to get hurt if you are rooting for Porcello.
  2. I haven't paid a ton of attention to the high school guys but Ahren's name is new to me. Is he a reach?
  3. I'm really starting to get Nick Schmidt vibes. I just have a feeling he will fall to the Sox and I'd probably be the only happy/satisfied person here.
  4. Mills to Cleveland is a scary thought. I really don't like the thought of facing him as part of that lineup in the future.
  5. southsider was quick there. That's a good pick at 12.
  6. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 02:13 PM) "Was it worth the wait?" "Well, no" Yeah, that was hilarious.
  7. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 02:02 PM) Nick Schmidt reminds me of the type of guy we usually pick. Yeah, but I think he is slightly better than the two we currently have. I wouldn't be mad if the Sox got him. (ducks) QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 02:03 PM) Did anyone read the article on how its hard to project college pitchers because the balls that are used in college have much higher seams, and make sliders and curves a lot more wicked than they will be in the majors. Supposedly the ball is different from the minors to the majors as well. I heard the opposite. Max Scherzer said pro balls made his breaking stuff better when he went to the Indy League.
  8. QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 01:56 PM) What's wrong with Detwiler? He's a mid first round talent that moved up due to signability concerns of a few of the high schoolers. He's also not a high ceiling guy like experts were saying the Nationals would go after. QUOTE(beautox @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 01:59 PM) isn't that what were doing with long? Yes.
  9. That makes 3 straight surprise picks and 2 out of 3 that I bust out laughing at (Detwiler and Weathers).
  10. Well there goes my dream pick. LaPorta is unreal. The question is where does he play in the future. You guys are calling him an overdraft, but I think he is talented enough to fit in this range. Signability dropped him a bit last year and he's probably an easy sign this year despite being a Boras guy.
  11. I've heard that Washington wants high upside guys in this draft. It's also going to be a high school pitcher. Edit: Poor Nationals
  12. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 01:33 PM) Danny, where do you think the Mizzou boys go? I could see some in top 15 rounds. Tepesch- the recruit anywhere from 2nd-5th depending on the word on his signability Priday- day 2 because his overall numbers this year looked mediocre despite the unreal 2nd half; also he's a DH despite playing OF and C in the past- an injury hurt him in that respect Bond- day 2, I don't think he will get picked that highly, but Mizzou people tend to think he's gone. He's not that toolsy, but a damn good college player IMO. Frey- day 1, 6th-10th round maybe. Solid defender, solid arm, good contact and speed to go with back to back good performance years. I don't see why he wouldn't go day 1. A few other recruits should go, but it's hard to tell because MLB teams will know how signable they are and we don't.
  13. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 01:29 PM) Do you have the link? I'm looking at Callis' projection and it's different than what you describe. http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/draft/?p=64 It's a link on the homepage.
  14. 1-2-3 as expected so far. This is where is might get interesting at #4...
  15. Moustakas goes 2 as BA reported. Supposedly this means the Cubs take Vitters.
  16. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 01:14 PM) Matt Bush was a first overall pick. Show Matt Bush highlights~! I remember when he got arrested soon after the draft and people were already calling him a bust. What's funnier is that they were right!
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 01:14 PM) I read his scouting report....and he seems like he's nothing special. That's because he's not.
  18. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 01:11 PM) Everyone watching at home: like the 10,000 people (myself included). I'd be curious to see the draft's rating. It's a Thursday afternoon and it's cheap. It doesn't need big ratings by any stretch of the imagination.
  19. I still say having the draft on tv is a good thing, but yeah, this is annoying.
  20. QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 01:04 PM) Oh f***, Steve Phillips is on the show. Groan. Yeah, I'm not happy that they put the BBTN guys on there. Totally different people know about the draft that would be good enough to talk about it on air.
  21. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 10:01 PM) Ryan = will start to show true self in mid 20's when he physically matures, .300 hitter with 20+ homer potential, solid D and great arm in RF Josh = all-star level third baseman or solid corner outfielder, possibly a .290 hitter with 30 homer power and 15 steals as well. No Gold gloves, but adequate D and will walk and strike out a lot. Those are a bit on the high side. I'll be very surprised if Ryan hits .300 in his career. Then again, I shouldn't bash him because everyone loves to drool over him as he hit .200 in his time with the big league club this year. As for Fields, I'm a big fan of his but I don't think he will be a .290 hitter. I'm thinking .260-.270s with probably a few less steals too.
  22. If the White Sox take Corey Brown or Brackman as those last two mock drafts predict I'd be rather embarrassed. Brackman is a high upside guy, but he has serious health concerns right now. Corey Brown would be a very good 2nd rounder as low as the Sox 2nd rounder is this year, but I don't think he is a first round talent.
  23. Knights won 11-3 Pods 1-3, RBI, R, BB, K Wilson 3-5, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R, K Anderson 1-3, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R, BB Sweeney 2-4, 2B, RBI, R, BB, K Broadway 7 IP, 3 R (2 ER), 4 K, 4 BB, 6 hits MacDougal 1 IP, 0 R, 1 K, 1 BB, 1 hit Barons lost 4-3 Collaro 2-4 Whisler 6.2 IP, 3 R (1 ER), 4 K, 1 BB, 6 hits Hogs won 4-3 Orlando 2-5, 3 K Castillo 4-4, 2B, RBI D Rodriguez 6 IP, 3 R (0 ER), 1 K, 3 BB, 4 hits
  24. QUOTE(Brian @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 11:35 AM) I'm ashamed to admit that I liked the drafting of Fizer at the time. Yeah, positionally it wasn't great, but he appeared to be the best player available. Also, he lived next door to one of my friends. Maybe, he'll move back in.
  25. Hall of fame? Geez let's not pronounce the guy a God or anything...I'm fully expecting him to be a star, but hall of fame?
