He put up another sick outing tonight. He went 8 innings on just 101 pitches with a whopping 14 strikeouts. De Los Santos allowed just 2 runs on a 2-run HR while giving up just 3 hits and one hit batter for the only base runners of the day. His current season totals: 6-2, 77.2 IP, 26 R (23 ER for a 2.67 ERA), 96 K, 30 BB, 42 hits, and just 4 HR. He has made 15 appearances, 12 of which have been starts. His K/9 sits at 11.12 and his WHIP is 0.93. For comparison BMac didn't K as many guys when he was in Kanny, but walked fewer. Gio Kd more (13.11 K/9 lol) but gave up more hits. Both of those guys had WHIPs just above 1 so DLS is at least on par with those guys (though Gio was 2 years younger) but both got promoted earlier.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 29, 2007 -> 08:26 PM) I'll about guarantee the home run he surrendered was off a hanging breaking ball. Anyone have information about his pitch count? This performance should earn him some attention across baseball. The HR was on a 3-1 count. I don't remember what the pitch was, but I'd be surprised if he used a curve with a 3-1 count. The hitter has 14 HR on the year so maybe they didn't want to groove a fastball, but DLS was using the curve as his K pitch. He threw 101 pitches which they said he was a new season high for him. He had 73 through 6 innings and 90 through 7.

Charlotte lost 5-2 with 5 errors Richar with his 1st HR with the Knights (1-4, K) Owens 2-4, 2 K Haeger 8 IP, 5 R (1 ER), 10 K, 5 BB, 7 hits Russell and the Barons hosting Jacksonville Russell 6 IP, 5 R, 4 K, 3 BB, 7 hits (all 5 runs in the 1st, settled down nicely after) Warthogs won 4-1 D Rodriguez 6 IP, 1 R, 3 K, 2 BB, 5 hits Schnur 2-4, 2 R DLS dominates Greensboro in 5-4 win De Los Santos 8 IP, 2 R, 14 K, 0 BB, 3 hits (I'm bored enough to listen online and the announcers said his FB is hitting 93-94 consistently, 95 in the 8th on a pitch, and the curve at 82-83) Shelby solo shot and a double (2-4 with a K) Santeliz hit 95 a couple times (who knew?) but couldn't throw strikes and almost blew the game. Rote came in for an easy K and hit 94. The I's scored 3 runs on 2 2 out errors heh. Billings @ Great Falls Bristol suspended after 1 1/2 Po-Yu Lin gave up 2 hits, no runs, with a K in his only inning.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 29, 2007 -> 06:26 PM) I suppose that's right, but he'd experienced much success with them and felt comfortable that they were serious about winning. Now? Not so much. I don't know if you've noticed but Seattle has a lot of young players and a solid 42-33 record. They probably have a better shot at the playoffs next year with him than the White Sox would with him.

Is there any pressure being the best hitting prospect in the minors for the White Sox (you know with Fields in the Majors)? [Dodges tomatoes for Sweeney lovers] Serious questions Which of the home ballparks that you've played in is your favorite and why? What have you noticed is different about your game from when you were in high school? What's it like being so cool?

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 29, 2007 -> 02:59 PM) The guy has one of the longest criminal wrap sheets in all of pro-sports. If he were playing in a major outlet, the entire world would know about it. He is going to have some big time problems in NY. He also is known to not practice much, and not hard, not play defense, and not to be anykind of a teammate. Yeah exactly. I laughed hysterically when New York made that trade. Curry is basically the same player, Frye is solid and a good defender (which they have few of), and Francis is still a good player when in a better situation like Portland. IMO Portland shafted the Knicks, who won't get the same numbers out of Randolph that Portland did.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 01:39 AM) Just for clarification, are you not a fan of his 'prospects' (ie his potential, his future) or are you not a fan of his for personal reasons (be it the Louisville thing, his hanging over the plate)? It's not at all a shot at you, I'm just interested in your opinion. A little bit from both. I don't think he has Major League tools. I'm just saying people here have been excited about the guy (and for the round he was taken in why not), but I just don't see it. He had a really hot weekend on a huge stage, nice job, but it was one weekend. I just see Adam Ricks in this guy in a lot of ways.

The Sox use Great Falls as their 2nd stop. The Pioneer League (where GF plays) has 8 teams, which I believe 6 are used as the 2nd stop while two are the first. The Appy League (where Bristol plays) has 9 teams, which an article posted somewhere that I can't remember/find said 4 of the 9 are used as the 2nd stop. So the Pioneer League is a slightly higher. The Short Season A leagues are all the 2nd stop while the complex leagues (Arizona and Gulf Coast) are always the first stop. So to summarize: Short Season A Pioneer League Appy League (though small difference) Arizona/Gulf Coast Leagues

QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 12:44 AM) hey daa84... who would you compare Alvares to? I'd read his sig for that: "Alvarez is being called a lefthanded Albert Pujols in the making." - Aaron Fitt - Baseball America A bit much probably, but he's considered a superstud. -

Apparently go to hell is an extremely strong statement. I don't feel a need to apologize because I don't need to defend how much of a fan I am to a bunch of people on a message board that I've never met before in my life. I just think it's great that a lot of people think it's such a big deal that I'm an a-wipe and stupid for saying such things. It's funny how I vented my displeasure about the 2007 team and people brought personal attacks (granted not harsh ones) on me. I just don't think it's someone's place to judge what kind of fan I am because I said 3 words on a message board. I mean, you all know me so well to make such a statement. I was also amused at how some people were saying it doesn't matter how a fan conducts themselves in relation to the team's performance as long as they stay loyal and continue to pay attention to the team. Others basically said, it's their way or the highway. I guess we should look into a fan rule book because the rules are not clear, lol. Thanks for the mostly good discussion and entertainment and I'll keep not caring what a few people think of me as a fan! -
QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 08:33 PM) The Sox are playing him at third, not first. He played 2B this year and some SS earlier in his career at Louisville. He's not a 1B.

Rochester 2 @ Charlotte 6 Phillips 7 IP, 2 R, 2 K, 1 BB, 9 hits Rogo 3-4, HR, 2 RBI, R Anderson 2-4, 3B, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R Richar 1-4, 2B, R, K Jacksonville 6 @ Birmingham 1 Egbert 5 IP, 2 R (1 ER), 5 K, 2 BB, 5 hits Collaro 2-5, 2 K Lucy 3-3, RBI, BB Omogrosso made his first pro start and it was a good one in a 2-0 5 inning win Another rain shortened game but OMoGrosso started in Zaleski's spot in the rotation. Zaleski is a true reliever as well anyway. It's Cassel's opening. Anyway: 5 IP, 0 R, 4 K, 1 BB, 2 hits Schnur 2-3, HR #17, 2 RBI, R, K Kanny won 2-1 in a 5 inning, rain shortened game Long 5 IP, 1 R, 4 K, 0 BB, 4 hits Carter 1-2, 2B, RBI Great Falls 0 @ Billings 1 Burlington 4 @ Bristol 3 Logan Johnson with 2 doubles. I'm not a big fan of this guy prospect wise, but he is definitely way too good for Bristol. Maybe with all those college SS at Great Falls they figured he could at least start at Bristol, but it's a waste for him IMO.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 09:02 PM) Yep. That is what a good fan is supposed to do. A good fan, however, also can moan and groan and sell their tickets 'cause this has been playing some really bad, historically bad baseball. But anybody who totally abandons this team is what they call a front runner. This is embarrassing and sick to watch, but a true fan won't totally abandon ship. They will b**** and groan and drink themselves to oblivion, but not wear paper bags over their heads like that moron asshole shown on WGN today. Hey bagman, did you have that bag over your head when the Sox won the World Series? Get a grip, man. Well said. -

QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 06:50 PM) I called you stupid because you seem to think that those who aren't displaying some sort of mob mentality aren't mad. According to what? -
QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 06:33 PM) BTW, here is the Knights game scoreboard since danman gave the wrong link (ESPN) Knights win 5-2 LOL good catch. Thanks, I fixed it.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 06:27 PM) If you think those that choose to continue to support them also aren't then it's you that is stupid. You made those two things up out of thin air. I didn't say people aren't fans for still following this team. That statement makes zero sense and I never said anything remotely close to it. And why am I being called stupid? I guess I should have said 2007 White Sox, but what's the difference. I enjoy watching a bunch of people arguing about how big of a fan they are. It's the dumbest argument ever and is a civil war. We are all on the same side. Who cares how some choose to root for their team? I'm just sick of watching this team 'play.' -

Yeah since being angry at this team means I'm not a fan. Get off your high horse. -

How could Brett Wallace not be on that list? The guy arguably had the best season in the country as a sophomore despite choking in the CWS. -
QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 08:12 AM) Not likely. Shaffer has probably been working on scouting those kids thoroughly since late October. By axing him before the draft that pretty much takes away a lot of information gathered, especially when the estimated number of players that each organization looks at is around 700. This was the right time if any to axe Duane Shaffer. Hopefully whoever replaces him knows how to draft good young talent. So you say not likely and then agree with me?

The Sox just forfeited their right to call themselves a Major League team. A squeeze? Are you kidding? It's one of the dumber plays in baseball if the fielders know a thing about the sport.
