QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 03:50 PM) The SL must've been really, really bad in 2008. Nope, the Barons pitching staff was really good in 2008.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 02:17 PM) Cassel has really fallen off the radar since winning the ERA crown in the Southern League in 2008. I think "fun" has gotten in the way based on what I've heard.
-
Scott Elarton was assigned to Charlotte, Justin Cassel was demoted to Birmingham.
-
The thing is now, this opens up a roster spot for a pitcher in Birmingham. Who gets promoted? Does Omogrosso, Hynick, Derek Rodriguez or Scott Elarton get assigned here?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 14, 2010 -> 09:05 PM) I am sure he is looking, but you need two to tango. I guess we'll see.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 14, 2010 -> 08:57 PM) Serious question. I can't remember trades happening before May, maybe ever June once the season has started, how often does this actually happen??? I doubt anybody on this board would think KW isn't looking into any possible deals at any point of the season.

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Apr 14, 2010 -> 08:38 PM) Do scouts typically not show up for games?? Id imagine especially to start season teams would send scouts out in general just to seek out new emerging talent. I see scouts all the time at Barons games. This guy was working a lot harder than the usual due diligence. Considering the White Sox history with the D-Backs, Kenny Williams always looking to deal, and now the attempt to remove Santo Luis from the 40 man by exposing him to waivers, something is up.
-
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 14, 2010 -> 07:05 PM) This opens a spot up on our 40, right? I told you guys something is up. Now the Sox are trying to free up a 40 man spot and they lose a pitcher on waivers. I bet this has something to do with the D-Backs scout I saw.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 14, 2010 -> 08:17 PM) He was closing at B-Ham, wasn't he? Should be interesting how they shift around relievers. Didn't get a chance.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 09:46 PM) Jackson would replace Pierre, but isn't left handed, so that wouldn't fly for Ozzie. Someone suggested Gerardo Parra earlier this year, and if the Sox got him, he'd be perfect for leadoff, is left handed, and from the few clips I've seen, has a rocket in center field. Quentin would have to suck it up and DH while the OF could look like: Jones - Parra - Rios. Good suggestion, it will be interesting to see. Something is up, I got that vibe from the scout.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 08:32 AM) Hudson for Upton. That would get Josh Byrnes fired.
-
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 07:00 AM) Probably nothing more than customary scouting of teams' minor leagues. I see scouts all the time, this guy was watching intently. He sat behind home plate for our pitchers, he moved over to my section to watch our hitters. Considering KW's history with Arizona, it's something to keep an eye on. Conor Jackson could be had...
-
There was a D-Backs scout watching our hitters tonight. Is something up???
-
QUOTE (scenario @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 10:07 PM) Worked that reverse psychology beautifully tonight! Keep up the good work. Is that what I did?
-
I've lost all hope that the Barons will win a single game this year.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 11:27 PM) Yea I feel bad for ya John.. Going from the "dream team" sort of speak from last year, to really an below average Baron team. Don't worry though, the second half could be good, or next season as W-S has a very good team this year and IMO, some of those guys can move up this year at the rate they are going. It's a shame Mitchell isn't out there. Of course, I haven't even mentioned what this year's bobblehead will be...

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 07:47 PM) Who the hell is Matt Wickswat? He's a pitcher for Kannapolis.

It's going to be a long, sad season in Birmingham.

Good news! Fist of all, my son is feeling much better and is home from the hospital. He is on a weeks worth of Amoxicillin and the doctors said he should be just fine. We had a "House M.D." like diagnostics team on his case. He won't get to go to his first baseball game just yet, but soon enough. I will be attending opening night tomorrow though. Also, we still have a connection in Winston-Salem. New Dash broadcaster Alex Vispoli is just as nice and helpful as former announcer Ed Collari. He said he reads both Future Sox and Soxtalk and he'd be willing to help out with interviews or whatever we needed for both sites.

I'm curious as to where Brandon Hynick, Brian Omogrosso, Scott Elarton and Derek Rodriguez are. I imagine that most of them are in extended spring training due to rust (Elarton) or recovery from injury (Omogrosso and Hynick), but D-Rod's omission is curious. Barons use the DH, Lee Cruz would fit that role perfectly and provide depth in the outfield. He's on the roster, AL.com always makes errors in the Barons related stories. As Dan and I have discussed... Just wanted to let everybody know that the reason for my noticeable absence lately is because my 10 week old son is in the hospital with pneumonia. He's doing much better, in fact he's 1000 percent better than he was Friday. Under the circumstances, I'm sure you guys understand that my first edition of JPNese will be delayed and I may miss part or all of the first Barons homestand.

New version up in the original post. I've based some things on the grouping of players involved in today's games. I think all the position players in the split squad against Seattle today were Birmingham bound. Yes, I'm predicting a return to the Barons for Cole Armstrong. The players used as subs in the game against the Knights on both sides, with the exception of Robbie Hudson, are Winston-Salem bound. There should be more releases to come, hopefully Baseball America will update those cuts sometime this weekend.

QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 1, 2010 -> 07:15 PM) Ok it's a Kannapolis vs Charlotte game now, so that's it. Winston-Salem this year, Kannapolis last year. The Knights announcer is an idiot, enjoy listening to him butcher the names. He's also a jerk too, I have the e-mail to prove it.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Mar 31, 2010 -> 10:30 PM) Gerst, huh? Seems like he was still developable. He is barely 22.
-
New version up in the original post. Still a work in progress, a glut of pitchers at Charlotte and a muddled catching situation throughout the system.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Mar 31, 2010 -> 06:27 PM) No suck luck. Intentional?
