He played in both the Warthogs game and the Knights game today. 4 at bats each.

I think they were trying to outright Molina off the 40 man roster and he had to clear waivers, but didn't. Just like Pedro Lopez back in May. Kenny Williams stated that Molina was passed over by Lucy and Cole Armstrong, so he was not valued by the organization anymore. Good to see Getz back in action. Perez was good with the bat while he was in B'ham, sorry to see him go. Honel's retirement is official, check the Barons gamenotes. I guess that means somebody's getting promoted from Winston-Salem. I'd guess either John Wesley, Derek Rodriguez, Kyle McCulloch or John Lujan. They also have to make room for Jon Link, who played in the California League, so Winston-Salem would be a likely destination for him. My regards for your loss, Jason.

You must have been the only people there.

QUOTE(BamaJason @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 11:17 PM) Heard a rumor tonight at the Barons game that Honel retired today. I don't know if it is true or not; has anyone else heard this? I'd say it might be true. Santana used everybody in the pen except Honel and Russell last night. CB said that nobody was available after Perez came in. That's two retirements for the Barons this year. Jeremy West's was out of nowhere, but Honel just pitched bad this year. It wasn't getting any better. I don't think I saw Honel at all last night. But I can't be sure. It must have just happened, because I have seen him in the dugout this week.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 11:14 AM) Ehren Josef Wassermann, RHP Born 12/6/1980 in Sylacauga, AL 6’, 185 Throws: R Bats: S OVERVIEW Ehren Wassermann made his way into the Sox’ system via the hard road – an open tryout. Un-drafted after a few underwhelming seasons at Samford, Wassermann took a long shot in July of 2003, and his stuff was good enough for the organization to sign him. Ehren is noted particularly for his control, both with his fastball (90-92 range) and his breaking stuff (curve and change), which is unusual for a side-armer. And while he lacks the spectacular power stuff, he also doesn’t get himself into big trouble – during his minor league career, he has given up just .22 home runs per 9 innings (that’s about 1 HR per 41 innings). With the recent (July, 2007) struggles in the White Sox pen, Wassermann may get a shot at the big league club, which would be quite a feat for an undrafted try-out sign-on. PERSONAL/PRE-COLLEGE NOTES Finished his high school career 11-4 with eight saves, including a 2.70 ERA, 114 innings pitched, 502 batters faced, 44 earned runs, 105 strikeouts and 42 walks. But he can also hit: he batted .411, including 123 hits, 129 runs scored, 89 RBI, 32 doubles, 18 home runs, 223 total bases and 16 stolen bases in three years of high school baseball… His favorite athlete is Chipper Jones… Says he is really good at Spades. COLLEGE Played 2 years at Jefferson Davis community college, doing more hitting than pitching. Hit .315 and .382 in those two years, and went to the DII World Series as a freshman… Then played just 2 years at Samford, putting up fairly pedestrian numbers… His Junior year, had a 4.05 ERA, 1.30WHIP and a 65/20 K/BB ratio in 25 appearances... Senior year his ERA jumped to 6.25 working more as a starter, going 5-8... Worked from the bullpen mostly, but did start 14 games, and was also used at 3B and DH… Majored in Sports Medicine… Made the A-Sun All-Academic team in 2002. SIGN/DRAFT Undrafted, signed with the White Sox on 7/16/2003 after an open tryout MINORS Wassermann’s first stop in his professional career at Bristol (2003) was less than stellar, compiling a 14.73 ERA and a 3.27 WHIP in 4 relief appearances, but he was promoted to Kannapolis (A-) anyway… He turned it around at Kanny with a 1.00 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in 6 games to finish 2003, and has excelled at every stop since… Started 2004 in Kanny, promoted to Winston-Salem (A+) mid-season… Started 2005 in W-S, promoted to Birmingham (AA) mid-season… Carolina league All Star in 2005… Played all of 2006 at B-Ham… Southern League All Star in 2006. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 01:30 PM) Ok, that Willie Mays comment is reallly over-exagerating since people here bust a nut over Ryan Sweeney. And Collaro might be the nicest guy in the world that doesnt mean he is going to have a successful majorleague career. Most people here like Collaro but they are just realist and know the chances of him making the majors and than actual being a real positive contributer are super slim. I wouldn't have believed it two years ago that Andy Gonzalez would be a major contributor to the 2007 White Sox.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 12, 2007 -> 03:07 PM) Indeed. I know I keep saying it, but it's true. The Barons suck and the fans in B'ham demand the Schnur! I've even thought about driving up to Winston-Salem to see a good team play a few games.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 10:49 PM) Kenny saying "buyer's mode" is different than a GM like Omar Minaya saying the Mets are in "buyers mode". I'm taking this to mean that if (or, more appropriatey, when) Kenny trades Dye, Iguchi and/or Contreras, he's looking for young players who can step in and play within the next year. I think he feels that he's built up a strong enough rotation to where the Sox won't have to go through a total "rebuilding" mode, so he wants guys like Richar who, at the very least, will be competing for a spot in 2008. I don't take this to mean the Sox will be offering Gio Gonzalez and Ryan Sweeney for Ken Griffey in an effort to save 2007. Sandy Alomar is back in the bigs, how about Sweeney for him straight up, or whomever is the best reliever for the Barons at the time. Gio's safe, you don't trade a guy then reaquire him, then trade him again. Or, Jack Egbert for any injury prone, washed up former closer, middle reliever? Just not Schnur, the fans in B'ham demand the Schnur!

Sox interested in Orlando Hudson/Elijah Dukes

Elijah Dukes is a manimal. -
Tommy's a good guy. I've seen him play in about 80 games last year and this year combined. He's got a good sense of humor too. I told him good luck next year at the end of 2006, and he responded that "I know I'll see you." He knew he'd repeat AA and was fine with it. I think he has an outside chance at the bigs. He'll just develop slowly. A couple of weeks ago, I saw him hit a homerun to leftfield off the end of his bat while reaching out to hit it. He's strong as an ox, he just needs more plate discipline. That is the only hole in his swing currently. Plus the guy looks like Travolta in Saturday Night Fever, how cool is that?

QUOTE(bluesox @ Jul 5, 2007 -> 09:32 PM) Schnur last 9 games: .457, 8 rbi, 4 walks, 0 Ks and 0 chance of moving to Birmingham The Barons sure do need him. Is that a pic of Micah you have?

Don't write off Owens just yet. He did win a Southern League batting title in 2005. That same year, Ryan Sweeney was completely overmatched at AA. One homerun, and maybe 20 something RBI's. He couldn't hit when he was surrounded in the lineup by Owens, Chris Young, Josh Fields & Andy Gonzalez. Owens hasn't even been playing baseball that long, he's a work in progress, but he can fly. I'd bank on Owens in the long run over Ryan Sweeney. Sweeney's a cheaper version of Borchard. I never would have thought that from that loaded 2005 Barons club, Andy Gonzalez would be such an important contributor to the White Sox now. I was certain that Sweeney would repeat AA in 2006 though, you can imagine my shock that he was promoted to AAA. Of course, centerfield wouldn't be such an issue if KW wouldn't have dealt Young.

QUOTE(TheOcho @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 12:58 AM) Actually talked to him a little bit during ST this year. No serious talk and I'm not going to say we are best friends ( ) but he seemed really cool. Very respectful and polite to fans, of all ages. I shook his hand and told him how good he was and he said thank you. Also got his sig on a '05 Hogs card. He's a righty with the pen. He got a standing ovation after picthing a great game and he tipped his cap to the fans. Only Barons player to do that this year.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 09:10 PM) What guys do you think need to be bumped up, since the organization has moved up maybe 5 people so far this season? Gio to White Sox 'pen Schnur to AA, Barons fans demand the Schnur! Carter to A+ Logan Johnson to AA McCulloch to AA Bourgeois to Chicago

I see you have Gio in your sig. I don't know if you've gotten to meet him, but he is a hell of a guy. A real nice kid, and a class act.

Although, I may also adopt Onarkys Paniagua too. That's a cool name.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 04:19 PM) Prior to the game the Knights signed Charlotte native and former Myers Park High School standout Jake Robbins. Robbins spent last season in the Cincinnati Reds organization with Louisville. The Knights also optioned infielder Kenny Perez to Double-A Birmingham. Apparently, Robbins and Andy Sisco are sharing the same jersey number.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 10:53 PM) Awesome...I'm glad someone is replacing him cause I have been horrible at updating my AAP. By the way welcome aboard. I should also note he hit his 17th homer tonight and really needs to get up to AA. The guy still has a lot of power ability and if he can produce in AA I think he'd be back on the prospect radar. He's a good guy and I am hoping he succeeds (one of the first guys I ever interviewed down in the minors). I'm a Barons season ticket holder, so I go as much as possible. They REALLY need him. About a year ago, he gave me the glove after they won. He said he had something for me, and tossed it to me. I was shocked. He's four years younger than me but he made me feel like a kid. After that, whenever the Barons would win, we'd exchange fists pumps as he was coming off the field. So, I was disapponted after he only got to play one game for the Barons this year so far. He's done plenty to deserve a promotion.
-
Micah personally gave me one of his fielding gloves last year. I'll adopt him.
