QUOTE(Chombi @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 09:16 PM) Seriously, this ESPN Boston love fest is disturbing. I say ESPN will eventually ruin baseball if Gammonds and others aren't gone soon. Everytime Boston and their prospects come up they go from journalist to fan in a matter of seconds. They get all gitty like little girls about who is next and honest to god, I think Owners and front office people believe it. Ellsbury to me is so overrated. He is Johnny Damon. Lester has overcome his problems and no disrespect to him is intended when I say he is overrated. Even Bucholz to me is overrated. If it wasn't for his no-hit bid this season he would be in a Johan deal. Why they would even consider the Sox over the Yanks is crazy to me. Phil Hughes is elite. Lester, Lowrie, etc..are not. Melky Cabrera is overrated a little in my book but even he is better then Ellsbury, and you would be getting him ontop of Hughes. It's just mind blowing. The Red Sox can scout. I will give them that. They also have the money to draft top 10 talent when it falls to them because of contracts and they also seem to lose quality players every year to FA so they get the compensation picks. Why do they??? Cuz they spend in FA. That said, why does everyone drink that organizations Koolaid? Every year it is someone knew. Where is the next big thing Craig Hansen, or Brandon Moss? How about my personal favorite Seung Song. Tony Blanco, Brad Baker. Big swingin Dernell Stenson was there stud of the future for like my high school life. I have mentioned Casey Fossum. There is more, I swear it. All of these guys were better then anyone elses prospects if you would believe espn. It's a joke. Every team has failed prospects but if you look at their track record since even like 2000. Outside of Papelbon, Han Ram (who prior to trade was slipping in Gammonds eyes I recall) and maybe Pedroia? They are much more common to fail but teams still keeping buying into them. It's bad and annoying me more then ever with this Johan talk following a WS title. Amen! Why Minnesota would want Ellsbury more than any other player is baffling to me. Even Lester would be a better centerpiece than Ellsbury. The possibility of getting Hughes should have cinched the deal for the Yankees. Minnesota is out of their minds.

QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 03:22 PM) One, Carter is 3+ years away, alot can happen with him. Two, Quentin is ready now and is probably going to be a superior ball player if you look beyond power numbers, because that is the only thing that Carter is better at. Three, Chris Young was a top 20 prospect, Carter not top 100. Fourth, Cunningham is not an amazing ball player, solid, but not spectacular. This was a very good trade for the Sox. I just feel that teams should try harder to develop homegrown players. You can take pride in that and it has worked and is working for a lot of teams. Carter may be three years away, but is there any rush on him in the first place? As a B'ham Barons season ticket holder, I'm mad that I'll never see Carter play for my hometown team. Have you seen Cunningham play in person? You'd change your mind about him if you did. His only glaring weakness is his throwing arm. I wouldn't be surprised if Arizona moves him back to second base. Williams will live to regret that trade. I've seen Richar and Cunningham play in person. Richar was unimpressive and Cunningham tore it up in a hitters park. I'm not saying Quentin is a bad player, I just think he could have been had for less. You have to admit, it is strange to see all of the White Sox best prospects traded to one organization. Plus, considering that Arizona is a good at developing players from their system, I'd be concerned about picking up the guys they didn't want. I hope Quentin and Richar pan out for Chicago, but I'd take Carter and Cunningham over them any day.

QUOTE(Calderon @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 04:09 PM) Are there any real first basemen left in the system at this point?
-
QUOTE(Calderon @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 02:48 PM) The Sox have reportedly traded Chris Carter to the Diamondbacks for Carlos Quentin. Discuss. All I can say is...wow. I'm convinced that Kenny Williams is laying the groundwork for a future job with the D-Backs. Does anybody know if he has a house in Phoenix? He better hope Carter and Cunningham don't turn out like Chris Young. I watched Chris Young play for a whole season in AA in 2005, so I knew that was a huge mistake no matter what they got for him. What's next? Egbert, Gio & Josh Fields for Tony Clark & Augie Ojeda?

The Sox have relievers available to trade ?

QUOTE(danman31 @ Sep 2, 2007 -> 07:51 PM) Charlotte lost 8-1 with just 4 hits Masset 5 IP, 3 R, 6 K, 0 BB, 6 hits Barons lost 7-3 McCulloch 2 IP, 3 R, 2 K, 3 BB, 4 hits Torres 3 IP, 4 K, H Oneli IP, K, H Hernandez IP, H Winston-Salem won 4-1 in 10 despite 19 Ks for the offense Omogrosso 6 IP, 1 R, 5 K, 4 BB, 2 hits Kanny lost 11-5, snapping a 7 game winning streak Gilbert 2-3, 2 RBI, R, BB Cruz 2-3, 3-run HR, BB Killian 1-3, K (hitting .281 with Kanny, looking like a decent pickup. He hasn't walked with the I's and has shown little power, but he's a former 3rd rounder that plays catcher and is only 21. There is some potential there.) Great Falls won 10-4 7 guys with multi hit days including 3 each from Paiml and Estill. I didn't see a mention elsewhere but they clinched the 2nd half division title yesterday. Ely 5 IP, 1 R, 3 K, 0 BB, 4 hits Juan Moreno was named pitcher of the year in the league. Salvador Sanchez joined him on the postseason all-star team. Chris Cron was named manager of the year with the team holding the league's best overall record. Funny thing is, Chris Cron didn't do much more than pick his nose as Barons manager last year and they only got 59 wins. Everybody hated him.
-
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 2, 2007 -> 08:20 PM) Yeah they have been good this season Great Falls. Still there's players such as Poreda and Salvador Sanchez who really should be dominating in that league (and they have). Not Kyle McCullogh's best outing tonight only going 2 innings. McCulloch threw over 60 pitches in those two innings

Victor Mercedes had a Roy Hobbs moment in last night's (9/1) game. He fowled a ball off to the first base side and it shattered one of the lights. Glass rained down on one section in GA. Nobody was seriously hurt, but there were some minor injuries that were attended to by security. The ball itself had some deep cuts.

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Sep 1, 2007 -> 07:17 AM) It's not uncommon for minor league teams to do this kind of thing at the end of the year. Last year or the year before the Barons and Huntsville both did it with a player in the same game. Makes life hell on the official scorer, but it keeps things interesting. Last year, Michael Myers played all nine positions in the last game of the season. He'll probably do it again on Monday.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 04:47 PM) Like Aramis Ramirez? If you think he's a tool because he swears....heh, I don't even have a cute thing to say to that. Did you not read what I wrote? I said it has nothing to do with his swearing. Go back and read what I said.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 05:17 PM) 3/9 starting position players (Ramirez, Ortiz, Varitek) 2 bench players (Youkilis, Mirabelli) 2/5 starting pitchers (Schilling, Wakefield) 1 reliever (Timlin) So 3 years later and 8/25 of the '04 squad remains. Sometimes you got to make changes.

QUOTE(BainesHOF @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 11:56 AM) While I've never been a big fan of LaRussa's, the one thing you can say is his teams always play hard. That would be a huge improvement, so I'd be in favor of hiring him. It's looking like it's time for Ozzie to be fired, and he practically seems to be begging for it. One of the big reasons teams find it so hard to repeat is they remain too loyal to the people who helped them win the title, even when it's obvious changes need to be made. While such feeling is admirable from a personal perspective, it's deadly to the goal of remaining a winner. Amen! How many World Series champs in recent years have retained the bulk of the team that helped them win? The Red Sox only have two, maybe three starters left over from 2004, and a completely new infield.
-
Does Jay not realize that Ozzie is beloved in Chicago? I hate sports journalists, they're so full of themselves and act as if they're the elders of Greece. They bypass reality in an attempt to shove their myopic opinion down your throat. If I was a player, I wouldn't want a coach who wasn't fired up. The Dungy style of coaching doesn't always work. Mariotti is also trying to convince people that Lou Piniella is having a negative effect on the Cubs. What planet is he on? The bottom line is that Jay Mariotti doesn't like Ozzie Guillen, period, for obvious reasons. And, of course, Jay Mariotti is a %@&.

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 02:43 PM) "Lilly-bridge is a major league tool. And, that's not a compliment. I saw him play for the Mississippi Braves earlier this year. Major bad attitude. He wouldn't win over the Chicago fans at all. Plus, don't hold out ANY hope for Robert Valido. He's got more attitude than game. He keeps washing out of AA back to A ball. " Not sure how you saw major attitude in one or two games. Did he throw a chair at a teammate or something? I know some others like John Sickels is very high on Lillibridge as well. From the interviews I've read with Lillibridge he seems like a decent guy. More like 15 games, I'm a Barons season ticket holder. But, hearing him scream the F word audibly countless times doesn't bode well in my book. I like passion in a ballplayer, but not unhinged anger. And, the language didn't bother me at all. Plus, he was originally in the Pirates system, came over in the LaRoche deal. I don't want a guy the Pirates don't want.
-
QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 12:52 PM) I don't see a reason that we couldn't pry Brent Lillibridge away from Atlanta pretty cheaply, he would be a good young option at SS. QUOTE(BigEdWalsh @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 10:54 AM) Bristol's season is over and there will be no playoffs for the Sox. Nick Mahin lead the team in hitting at .298, followed by Jordan Cheatham (.287), Jose Martinez (.282), Kent Gerst (.281) and Logan Johnson (.280). Po-Yu Lin lead the woeful pitching staff with a 6-5 record and 3.30 ERA. He whiffed 65 in 62.2 innings. Nevin Griffith pitched in just 8 games, 8.2 inn. 5.19 ERA, .359 BA against. Full team batting and pitching stats. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...ibp&cid=557 Most of the other affiliates have only 5-6 games left. Other than Great Falls, I don't think any will be in playoffs. Pioneer league has 9 more games.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 29, 2007 -> 11:09 PM) Check out the first inning. J. C. Holt singles on a pop up to third baseman Christopher Kelly. Carl Loadenthal singles on a bunt ground ball to third baseman Christopher Kelly. J. Holt scores. Carl Loadenthal to 3rd. Throwing error by third baseman Christopher Kelly. Diory Hernandez singles on a bunt ground ball to third baseman Christopher Kelly. T. J. Bohn called out on strikes. Mark Jurich doubles (31) on a line drive to right fielder David Cook. Carl Loadenthal scores. Diory Hernandez to 3rd. Clint Sammons walks. Matt Young singles on a ground ball to left fielder Adam Shabala. Diory Hernandez scores. Mark Jurich to 3rd. Clint Sammons to 2nd. Van Pope hit by pitch. Mark Jurich scores. Clint Sammons to 3rd. Matt Young to 2nd. Paul Bennett strikes out swinging. J. C. Holt called out on strikes. I've been watching Chris Kelly play third base all year. He is awful. He lolligags, he doesn't hustle, he absolutely won't dive or get his unifrom dirty. He is a first basemen by trade, but sucks there to. That's the White Sox for you. Demote Micah Schnurstein to learn first base, and replace him with that douchebag Kelly. He is also a jerk too. He slammed his glove into the dugout and screamed the F word last week after making two crucial errors at first base. He will be the first home team player I ever heckle during the Barons last game next Monday. I'm honestly surprised the Barons pitching staff hasn't given Chris Kelly a "blanket party" yet. He's been that bad and made a lot of badly timed errors in close games. His lack of effort is the biggest problem though.

QUOTE(Calderon @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 01:08 PM) According to MiLB.com, six White Sox minor leaguers are confirmed to head to the Arizona Fall League this October, with another spot TBA. Dewon Day, Jack Egbert, Fernando Hernandez, Adam Russell, Donny Lucy, and Chris Getz are all listed on the roster for the Phoenix DesertDogs, the two-time defending AFL champions, who will be managed by Rafael Santana. There is an outfield spot listed as TBA for the White Sox. Who could it be? Sweeney? Collaro? Former White Sox farmhand Jay Marshall is on the roster as well. Getz needs the playing time. He missed over 60 games with an injury this season.

QUOTE(JPN366 @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 12:15 AM) He played for B'ham in 2000. It's a nice bobble, he's actually in mid pitch and he's wearing his #40 Barons uniform. I'll try to get a picture up soon. Here's the picture of the bobblehead. Plus, a picture of the glove Micah Schnurstein personally gave me. (The reason why he is my favorite player.) I got him to autograph the palm with a silver Sharpie.
