QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 06:14 PM) I don't know if Richar will ever be anything as a major leaguer, but I am pretty certain he will rake in AAA if you give him enough time. I've met Aaron Cunningham and watched him play. His combined numbers last year and his numbers in limited action this year should make any White Sox fan sick to their stomach. He was included in the Dan Haren trade so now he's in Oakland's system. I wouldn't be surprised to see him crack Oakland's lineup next year. That was a trade that Kenny Williams shouldn't have made. Richar may rake in AAA, but IMHO, Cunningham will be a better Major League player.

Ryan F**cking O'Malley for sure! 2/3 of an inning tonight.
-
And, he can come back to B'ham in September if they clinch that spot in the next few weeks and Charlotte doesn't go to the playoffs themselves.

QUOTE (north side chi sox fan @ May 29, 2008 -> 09:37 AM) Anyone notice that Uribe has been playing ss and not 2b in Charlotte? Does this mean that when he comes back he is our utility man? Richar and Uribe have been alternating between 2nd and SS day to day. Getz is playing some LF too.

Not even Evan Longoria, a big time prospect who obviously was on a fast track to the majors, was promoted through the minors at times when it would hurt the teams he played for. From A ball to AA at the end of 2006. From AA to AAA in July of 2007. And, from AAA to Tampa back in April. The minors may not be about winning, but it is far from irrelevant.

I've watched minor league baseball enough to know that you don't see significant roster shake up below AAA until midseason. AAA is a holding pen for Major League reserves. AA and lower is for player development. B'ham's roster has not been altered significantly at all this season because they are winning. You don't undercut a winning team in your organization just to promote someone. In a few weeks, it won't be harmful at all.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ May 29, 2008 -> 01:13 AM) This logic is ridiculous. Cook is running out of time already as a guy who turns 27 later this summer, ancient by minor league standards, plus he already has proven that AA pitching can't touch him. The minor league system isn't about winning (crazy but true), it's about finding talent and promoting it as it proves itself. David Cook at AA is pretty ridiculous, he should be in Charlotte. I am aware that the minor leagues are not about winning. But when a team is winning, a promotion can wait a few weeks. The Barons have 17 games left in the first half. They can promote him all they want then, but right now he's best served to help the team he's with secure a playoff spot. The logic is not ridiculous. All I'm saying is that a promotion can wait two and a half weeks. Micah Schnurstein wasn't promoted from W-S to B'ham last year and he was tearing it up in the Carolina League. Just because a player is doing well at a level doesn't mean that your promote him ASAP and be damned the team left behind. If you use that logic, then why hasn't Brad Eldred been called up? Why hasn't Brandon Allen been promoted? Yes, David Cook deserves a promotion and I hope he gets it. But, even the White Sox know it can wait a few weeks. The logic that it has to happen now is ridiculous. Charlotte doesn't take precedence over B'ham. Cook can help Charlotte in the second half, he's helping B'ham in the first half.

QUOTE (bighurt4life @ May 28, 2008 -> 08:35 PM) I've asked this before but when does David Cook get moved to AAA. Between last season and this year he's played 80 games in AA and has a combined OPS of about 1.070, I think that he's shown all that he needs to in B-Ham to warrant a promotion. The Barons are trying to secure a playoff spot at the moment and he is the 3 hitter in that lineup. Charlotte can wait. B'ham's magic number for a playoff spot is 12. Charlotte has plenty of boppers in the lineup. You don't take a good hitter away from a competitive team to promote him to an average team at best. That would be a like a punch to the gut for B'ham. Collaro was promoted to Charlotte beacause it didn't hurt B'ham's chemistry.

Today was the Rickwood Classic for the Barons. It was awesome as usual except for the loss. Javier Castillo's homerun traveled 438 feet.

QUOTE (scenario @ May 27, 2008 -> 09:02 PM) David Cook is absolutely unconscious. After going 3-3 plus 2 walks tonight, he's up to a .327 BA on the year... OBP over .470... a .610 SLG... He is 1st in the Southern League in OBP and 3rd in OPS. The Barons are unconscious. 11-0 last night, 13-3 tonight. The magic number is down to 13. The first half division title is within reach.

The White Sox clearly need a buzzworthy offensive prospect in the system aside from John Shelby. So, my vote is for Justin Smoak.

QUOTE (bighurt4life @ May 27, 2008 -> 03:36 AM) How much longer is David Cook going to stay in AA, the guy is mashing, time to move him up to AAA and see if he can hit up there. Maybe he's just a late bloomer but looks like he may be a legit prospect No!!! He's our best power hitter. Charlotte's got plenty of mashers. The Barons are in the playoff hunt right now.

The real question is how many top prospects can the White Sox trade for Dave Weathers...
-
QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 21, 2008 -> 08:19 PM) At least, I think that's what they said. That's probably because he was released by the White Sox from Charlotte.
-
QUOTE (dasox24 @ May 21, 2008 -> 01:40 AM) In light of recent news, dude is probably 24 years old... Can you elaborate?
-
Paiml goes to Winston-Salem, Miranda heads back to Kannapolis.
-
I think the clock is ticking on Tomo Ohka. 0-6 already and he gave up 6 runs today.
-
Nah, he's gonna need some seasoning in Charlotte next year after he spends the rest of this year in Chicago.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 15, 2008 -> 05:53 PM) Good for Maxwell, but, what happened to Rasner? Don't know, but he didn't pitch the other night when he should have. Plus Dubee was skipped tonight.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 15, 2008 -> 09:34 AM) Syracuse (24-16) @ Charlotte (16-23), 6:15pm CT, the league's ERA leader, Lance Broadway (5-1, 1.13), starts for the Knights. Birmingham (22-18) @ Jacksonville (19-21), 6:05pm CT, no starter listed yet but I believe it should be C Richard (3-5, 2.87) Lynchburg (16-22) @ Winston-Salem (16-18), 6:00pm CT, I think its Rasner's (2-3, 3.41) turn, but they keep moving those guys around Delmarva (20-18) @ Kannapolis (19-20), 6:05pm CT, N. Jones (1-3, 7.11) goes for the Intimidators --- I just want to point out that Delmarva's second baseman, Ryan Adams, has 24 errors in 30 games. That is amazing. Rasner's been put on the DL. It should be Dubee going tonight. Levi Maxwell was promoted to W-S from Kanny.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 14, 2008 -> 09:26 AM) Boxes and highlights (those not related to casts from musicals, LOL)... Syracuse 5, Charlotte 2... Getz: 2-4, HR (4) Eldred: 2-4 Collaro: 1-3, HR (1, just promoted from B-Ham) Haeger (L, 2-4): 5 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 1 K (ERA now 6.02) Birmingham 4, West Tenn 2... Negron: 2-4, R Cook: 0-2, 2 BB, R Hall: 1-4, 2B, 2 RBI O'Malley (W, 1-0): 5.2 IP, 7 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K Link (S, 10): 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K Winston-Salem 7, Lynchburg 6. The bats have really been waking up for W-S lately... Shelby: 1-3, BB, 2 R, 2 SB (has 10 now), he's now hitting .329 Colina: 2-3, 3 RBI, R (hitting .359 in his last 10 games) Allen: 2-4, 2 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R (hitting .359 in his last 10 games) Miranda: 2-4, R, 2 SB (4 hits for his last 10 AB) Zaleski (W, 1-1): 5.2 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 5 BB, 2 K Texeira (S, 6): 2 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K Kannapolis 5, Delmarva 0... L Johnson: 2-4, HR (5), 2 R, 2 RBI (now hitting .328) J Martinez: 1-4, 2B Carter (W, 4-0): 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K (ERA now 1.43) Santiago (S, 1): 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 6 K Just irritated about that fact, the Barons almost had a shutout if it hadn't been for that. Thought you guys would also get a laugh out of it. Shelby will be traded for a mediocre middle reliever or a below average infielder if the White Sox contend. He could be this year's Aaron Cunningham.

Charlotte lost 5-2 B'ham won 4-2 W-S won 7-6 Kanny won 5-0 A quick note about the Barons game...the two runs West Tenn got came via assist from the cast of High School Musical On Ice. I s**t thee not. Here's the sequence of events...runners on first and second, two outs, pop up to the third base side, it drifts foul, Javier Castillo reaches into the stands to catch it, his glove is swatted aside by one of the cast members so that they can get it. A few pitches later, Prentice Redman doubles in the the two runners. Awesome...

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 12, 2008 -> 12:42 PM) The catching situation in Charlotte is weird too. Jared Price was called up from B-Ham, and is now on the Charlotte roster. Ryan Smith is still listed as 7-day DL, but he's been there for weeks. And Donny Lucy is still listed as "active" on the roster. ??? Ryan Smith was active for a week and played in two games. He's a glorified bullpen catcher, he's only activated temporarily. Lucy's obviously not active. Check the Knights Wikipedia page. I update the roster there and it is completely accurate. I have a subscription to MiLB.tv and I watch the Knights games whenever they're available. Plus I listen to the audio stream when they're not on tv. I linked the Wiki roster in another thread. I have confirmed all of the info that is different than the info on MiLB.com.

Thomas Collaro moved back up to Charlotte, Noah Hall activated from the B'ham DL. Looks like Bourgeois is headed for the DL.
