  1. QUOTE (joejoedairy @ Jul 5, 2008 -> 03:41 PM) Birmingham Barons vs. Huntsville Stars Dewon Day(sucks) vs. Mike Jones(who?) Still Tippin'. Anyway, D-Day was good his last outing.
  2. Josh Fields drew 2 walks and struck out once for W-S.
  3. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Jul 4, 2008 -> 01:47 PM) Didn't he win American Idol this year? ...crickets...
  4. Watch the first inning of Charlotte's July 3rd game. It's not one of his laser cannon shots, but he hits it to almost dead center. It doesn't cost anything to watch the archived games, just create an account.
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 4, 2008 -> 10:43 AM) He'll begin a rehab assisgnment in Winston Salem tonight and is expected to play. D'oh! The Barons never get any rehab players, and we have an open roster spot right now.
  6. QUOTE (IamPabloOzuna @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 01:07 PM) I didn't see anything else posted here and I thought it needed to be discussed. What the hell is Manny's deal? How does it get off so easily after shoving the teams travel secretary? He always has to prove how cool he is but all he does is come off as an arrogant jerk. Shawn Chacon definitely deserved to get cut, and I'm not saying cut Manny, but some order of discipline is necessary, not just a simple apology. http://www2.tbo.com/content/2008/jul/01/sp...traveling-secr/ http://buntdouble.blogspot.com/2008/07/man...ny-asshole.html Amen...Ditto...I second that.
  7. The Barons won on a play at the plate to end the game. Nanita threw out the potential tying run for the third out in the top of the 9th.
  8. QUOTE (chunk23 @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 12:34 PM) Both of these last two guys are from Mobile. I'm pretty sure historically Mobile has produced more HOF players than any other city. Wouldn't that be great if it continued? Also, to choose the Sox over Auburn is a pretty big deal considering the fervor people have for Bama and Auburn. That fervor only extends to the football teams, trust me. There is a deafening silence when it's college baseball season in Alabama. And, they hold the SEC baseball tournament at the stadium the Barons play in. They could both be in it, win it, or go to the College World Series & it wouldn't matter to a lot of people. There are a lot of 36 hours a year sports fans in Alabama, and that is the time it takes to watch your preferred team play all of its football games. I've heard nothing but "it's only two months until football season" a lot lately. Football's the only sport that matters here, plain and simple.
  9. QUOTE (YASNY @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 05:21 PM) I missed my true calling in life. Talk about fringe benefits, huh.
  10. Steven Upchurch signed, he's on Bristol's roster now. He can be bolded out.
  11. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 09:32 AM) Per a source from the Knights, Donny had season-ending knee surgery. No word on if he may be healthy in time for fall or winter ball, but that seems unlikely. Hopefully Donny can recover fully and come back in 2009. He's got a tough road ahead of him now. Who's your source? Because I have a hard time getting info from the Knights front office or anyone associated with them.
  12. QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 01:14 PM) Think about it... Sign as a 20-something round draft pick or spend a year (or two) on scholarship to Florida State and hope you go higher. On top of that... assume you have rich parents. Minor league buses in the Carolinas... or suntanned sorority girls and the chance to be a stud-athlete on campus? Tough decision for an 18 year old? I'm sure any minor league baseball player can attest to the fact that the women are just as plentiful and available. You should see the "ho train" that shows up every night at the Barons games. In fact, I think most of the players keep on playing just for that alone. The priorities are 1. women 2. trying to make it 3. the love of the game.
  13. Cole Armstrong's first game with Charlotte...5 AB's, 2 runs scored, 5 hits, 2 doubles & 1 RBI. He's not coming back to B'ham. (Sad Fugee Face)
  14. Paul Phillips came out of last night's Knights game. And, Cole Armstrong was promoted to Charlotte today. So, I guess Phillips is going on the DL. Somebody fire the Knights trainer...Lucy, Phillips, Eldred, Fields, DaVanon & Owens are all on the DL as of right now. Plus, the Barons suffer for it just as much because we lose our players.
  15. QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 09:07 PM) Birmingham @ Mississippi Carlos Torres starting Barons lost 4-0. Second night in a row they were shut out. They scored 5 runs last night. The no-hitter was the night before.
  16. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 01:12 PM) fantastic, just fantastic The funny thing is, how'd he get a name like that being from the Dominican Republic? Also, there's the guy who plays for Great Falls whose name is another way of spelling a self inflicting torture device.
  17. This is the best name in all of minor league baseball, he's teammates with Tim Beckham... http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...&pid=502679
  18. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 12:10 PM) I like the guy in GF whose last name is lettuce. Enrique Lechuga?
  19. Here's a nauseating article. Enjoy! http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/news/ar...b&fext=.jsp
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 08:57 AM) Mabee was promoted, but Texeira is staying. So, will that mean that Mabee will be a setup guy for Tex, or will Tex be promoted too? Also, why is Po Yu Lin repeating Bristol? I know he showed up in ST in 2007 with disappointing velocity, but his numbers at Bristol were pretty solid. I'm kind of surprised he wasn't sent to Kanny. Jon Link is lights out for B'ham, so I don't see Texeira being promoted just yet.
  21. Lee Fischer was sent back to Great Falls in Oney's place. So, it's not just to open a spot for Beckham. It was an undeserved promotion.
  22. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 09:22 PM) yep http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...mp;x=6&y=12 Must have been his .143 OPS And his 0 hits. Kenny Jr.'s hitting .094, I think he could be an asset to B'ham.
  23. They promoted Oney Guillen to Kannapolis! I s**t thee not.
  24. Kenny Jr. is hitting a sweet .094 for Great Falls.
  25. In 2006, Getz was "Chris Clutch." Not much of a stumble in my opinion. Barons manager Carlos Subero was named to the coaching staff of the international team for the Futures Game.
