  1. QUOTE (BearSox @ Aug 9, 2008 -> 08:46 PM) I know JPN goes to a lot of Barons games, so I am hoping he could add some insight. Decent fastball, I'm guessing a slider or change, maybe a splitter or sinker. Been awesome out of the pen for B'ham, nice guy, but not ready for big league action. If Clayton Richard got knocked around in the bigs, Joe's certainly not ready.
  2. QUOTE (BearSox @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 08:40 AM) well, if Richard could succeed at Charlotte (and before him Heath Phillips), I have a feeling that the AAA international league struggles vs. soft tosing lefties who work fast (I am assuming Whistler does this) and throw strikes. I wouldn't be surprised if Whisler has some sort of hitch in his delievery thats throws some hitters off. Whisler isn't a soft tosser. Yes, he does have a slight hitch.
  3. By the way...Kanny's manager got his walking papers on July 29th. Chris Jones was replaced by Nick Capra.
  4. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 10:44 PM) Barons faced David Price tonight, who dominated, but did walk 4. And who doesn't sign autographs.
  5. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 09:49 AM) Have at it... Here you go, Adam. (just kidding, Russell's a real nice guy.)
  6. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 12:54 PM) What's funny is the Guillen jersey in the background, all empty... He didn't die, he was suspended.
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 10:49 AM) Have at it... We could have used you in Kansas City...
  8. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 10:43 AM) I'd like to see Cook added to the 40-man and get a September call up. I think he may be a legit prospect, and at the very least, he can up his trade value a bit. I'm hoping he comes back to B'ham for the playoffs. Charlotte won't make the playoffs, and B'ham needs a punch because they are playing flat.
  9. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 09:38 PM) Mr. golden manlocks. Aaron Cunningham has a much more impressive mane. Aaron Cunningham
  10. QUOTE (BearSox @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 05:15 PM) he's sitting around 90, topping out at 91... I thought he had a bit more velocity than that. He's throwing his fastball too much, but that's because he keeps falling behind. He has a lot of movement on his fastball and can move it around to get guys out. If he struggles as a starter, I think he would have a bright future as a setup man.
  11. QUOTE (forrestg @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 10:14 PM) Lot of extra base hits not too many homers.. Venezualen.. High average lot of walks.. Can he outfield fields? September call up maybe? Hits the ball hard, with bare hands too! Solid fielder, can play 1st, 2nd & 3rd. But, he's a minor league journeyman, 29 years old, spent all of last season in independent ball.
  12. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 08:57 PM) Birmingham v Chatanooga Harrell and O'Malley combine to go 5.1ip 12R 6ER 16 hits 3BB Gartrell 3-4 2B Allen 0-2 BB- more BB than K's in AA, good sign of progress for him Cruz 3-4 2HR 4RBI Bigfoot, UFO's, a Valido 2 run homerun.
  13. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 01:13 AM) I met the kid when he was in high school, and some of my friends in Miami know him pretty well. I can't wish anything but success for the guy. He was the nicest guy who ever played for the Barons. He'd always shake your hand and ask how you were.
  14. QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 12:26 AM) Also, a kitten dies everytime box scores are posted backwards. I thought that was only if you pleasured yourself?
  15. I hope for all the success in the world for Gio, he deserves it.
  16. QUOTE (BearSox @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 10:39 PM) hey JPN, what's Jon Link's stuff like? I wouldn't say it's impressive, but it is effective. 29 saves out of about 34 or 35 chances. It's really hard to pin it down. 92-94 fastball, not certain about his offspeed pitch, maybe a changeup. 91 to 92 cutter or 2 seamer seems to be his bread and butter. He must be good at deceiving hitters, because he doesn't seem like he's blowing guys away. He gets a lot of his strikeouts with diving offspeed pitches set up by the fastball or cutter. His pitching motion may be part of his deceptiveness. It's a quick motion with a chest high straight leg kick with his glove and the ball held parallel to his head at the same time. If that makes sense.
  17. QUOTE (jaxsoxfan @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 04:14 PM) I think he played third base in Tampa, and can bat leadoff. If and when Crede comes back he could still be speed off the bench. He is currently on DL but expected to come off soon. With his contract he should clear waivers. If Boston takes some of the salary, would he be a good fit to help us get to the playoffs? Yay! 400! Anyway, If a right handed hitter sucks in Boston, it'll only get worse anywhere else.
  18. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 09:57 PM) Birmingham v Chatanooga Harrell and O'Malley combine to go 5.1ip 12R 6ER 16 hits 3BB Gartrell 3-4 2B Allen 0-2 BB- more BB than K's in AA, good sign of progress for him Cruz 3-4 2HR 4RBI Ugh, I left early for Peanut Butter Panic ice cream.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 06:47 PM) No Crede He hasn't been with the team (Charlotte) since Saturday.
  20. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 09:49 PM) any GM that overpays or gives him a contract for more than one year should be fired immediately. three straight years of back problems are all the flashing lights and sirens you need to see. Steve Phillips would.
  21. FYI...Charlotte had an open roster spot. Contreras pitched 5 decent innings the other day, so I imagine that when that fifth spot comes up again, he'll be activated.
  22. For those who have been wondering why David Cook hasn't played since July 23rd, he has a thumb injury on his left hand and is day to day. Aren't we all...
  23. Charlotte has an open roster spot. Crede and Contreras don't count against the active roster limit. Contreras finishes up his rehab and gets activated, Richard gets optioned back to Charlotte and takes that open roster spot. Crede on the other hand...scratched two days in a row, might be a longer wait on him.
  24. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 09:09 PM) I'd assume because he figures the White Sox will call him up and put him in either the bullpen (which I would assume) or rotation. Having a lefty who can throw 97+ out of the bullpen can be pretty damn nice. I imagine he'll finish up with B'ham. He's just now settling in and pitching well. Although, you never know.
