The White Sox need to keep Estee Harris. He'll only be 24 next year and he did well at W-S. Check out his stats. I'd like Ryan Wing and Casey Rogowski back, good guys and good ballplayers. Maybe Joel Guzman, Erik Kratz, Ruben Gotay, Derrick Turnbow, Laynce Nix, Chris Shelton, Gustavo Chacin & Hector Luna.

QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Oct 21, 2008 -> 10:48 AM) Here's a real slugger we could use as a backup! You'd like Gustavo even more when you see what he does for a warm up swing. He steps out of the box, hocks a loogie, and swats it with his bat.

I'm deeply disappointed with the dismissals of Carlos Subero, Wes Clements & Tim Blackwell. Clements had the magic touch with some guys in B'ham. Just look at Brandon Allen and Lee Cruz's stats before they were in B'ham and after. Especially Cruz. Subero has the potential to be a big league manager one day. Shame on the White Sox.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Nov 3, 2008 -> 01:25 PM) The B'ham coaching staff did a hell of a job in 2008, so they should either return or be promoted. Tim Blackwell and Chris Cron should be retained as well. Damn!!! I just read this... "Replacing Valentin as manager at Inland Empire is Carlos Subero, who joins the organization after managing the White Sox Double-A Birmingham club in 2008."

QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 2, 2008 -> 09:32 PM) I have no idea what the blurb at the end of this article means. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,5597399.story The B'ham coaching staff did a hell of a job in 2008, so they should either return or be promoted. Tim Blackwell and Chris Cron should be retained as well.

QUOTE (scenario @ Oct 23, 2008 -> 07:28 PM) I've had an ongoing dialogue with a Tribe fan who lives in Winston-Salem and goes to the Warthog games. He had this interesting and funny comment about CJ in one of our conversations... "They love him here in Winston, if crowd applause is any measure. He's also quite often the 'Biscuitville RBI Guy' so the fans who yearn for coupons to a "down-home country" fast food chain are especially pumped when he bats." Claim to fame... being the Biscuitville RBI guy... gotta love minor league baseball. In B'ham, we had the Moe's queso batter of the game. It was whomever was the cleanup hitter that night. If they hit a homer, everybody got free queso dip at Moe's Southwest Grille.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Oct 11, 2008 -> 10:56 AM) I wonder what KW could get for him in a trade for MLB talent at the deadline (Wag of the finger)

"Trey-Bone"...B'ham bound!

On their website. Most are $100, some are $150 and the Beckham and Danks jerseys are a cool $500 a piece.

Although I recounted this game to all of you the night it happened, there is a montage video of the game winning inning on Barons.com now. They played it every night on the video board before the Barons took the field. As called by Curt Bloom with "Pirates of the Caribbean" music, check it out.

QUOTE (scenario @ Sep 19, 2008 -> 12:53 PM) There are 3 pitchers on the Birmingham roster with major league experience: - Fernando Hernandez (23) - Dewon Day (28 in about a week) - Ryan O'Malley (28) Day's problem is getting the ball over the plate on a consistent basis. O'Malley can get the ball over the plate, but people pound the crap of him when he does. I don't see either of those guys with the Sox for much longer. Fernando still has time. He should be in Charlotte next year. And with our current bullpen situation, if he does well in Charlotte, he could very well get a shot with the big club. I can't say out of respect to that player and his honest feelings about the White Sox organization. I'll just say he really is a smart pitcher with a good arsenal who could pitch for a long time.

QUOTE (scenario @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 01:13 PM) So that's why we drafted guys like Broadway and McCulloch (Charlie Haeger... Heath Phillips... etc, etc, etc.) Seems like we've been drafting soft-tossers who could "pitch" forever. I think the guy you talked to is probably a victim of the pendulum finally starting to swing the other way. Maybe the new regime is putting an emphasis on guys who have enough oomph on their fastballs to get major league hitters out. That would be a nice change. He has logged time in the majors.

For what it's worth, I talked with one of the Barons players off the clock and he said that the White Sox organization was "different" and didn't mean it in a good way. He knew he was better off with another organization he had been with. "The White Sox only like guys who throw hard, they don't care about ones who can pitch." Those are some loaded statements in my opinion. I cannot say who said that out of respect to the player. But, I appreciate his honesty. Another good guy in the system who will get screwed.

QUOTE (scenario @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 04:41 PM) I think that quite a few of our top draftees from 2007-2008 will be in high-A or AA next year. I'm really interested in seeing how those two teams look next spring. I want to see how the core of this year's Birmingham pitching staff (which was very good) looks next year at Charlotte. Brandon Allen made huge strides this year and may start 2009 in Charlotte. John Shelby was one of the top offensive players in the Carolina League and gets to show his stuff in AA next year. A couple of other position players look promising too. So some talent is starting to hit the upper levels. I think Big BA will start out in B'ham in 2009, fingers crossed, but will get promoted after no more than 6 weeks or two months.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 09:52 AM) Waiting silently for the same from Kenny Williams Jr. I doubt we'll be so lucky. He only played 11 games for Great Falls, then missed the rest of the season.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 14, 2008 -> 11:23 PM) He retired. There was a message on the scoreboard at tonight's game congratulating him for "going out on top" what with his .333 avg. and .667 Slg. in Charlotte. The message was from JR, the Sox coaches and Freddy Garcia. So, his entire minor league career was an inside joke?

Please tell me this is true. I don't want to fear his possible presence in B'ham next year.
-
Tip of the hat...
-
Funny thing is, everybody hated Chris Cron when he managed the Barons in 2006. He just acted like he didn't care. He also bookended the playoff streak of the Barons from 2000 to 2005. He managed the Barons in 1999 and they didn't go to the playoffs and in 2006 as well.
-
Shame...he's a solid ballplayer. I hope he gets a shot in Spring Training next year.
-
Just because Haeger was DFA'd doesn't mean he's gone. He most likely will just be outrighted to Charlotte.

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 8, 2008 -> 02:37 PM) Is this dude also part of the great cassel family going now? Yep.
-
Final word on Valido, he quit. He was demoted back from Charlotte to B'ham and chose to quit instead of help a playoff team. That info comes directly from one of his teammates' father. The media spin is that he was "sent home to think about his future and take a break." So, he was suspended just in case instead of being outright released.

QUOTE (scenario @ Sep 6, 2008 -> 09:29 PM) Warthogs lose to Myrtle Beach and lose the series 3 games to 1 Barons lose to Mississippi getting swept in their series. Great Falls and Billings playing game 1 of their series tonight GF ahead 2-1 in the 6th inning

Sorry, I forgot to include that info.
