From what I saw in Birmingham last season, Aaron's not ready for primetime. He has a lot of work to do. He needs more seasoning, if he doesn't break camp with Chicago, I wouldn't be surprised if he wound up in Birmingham again for a few months. He's loaded with potential, but he did get hit hard a few times in AA in 2008.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 11, 2009 -> 06:57 PM) Yeah, Broussard's got this kinda throaty John Mayer thing going on. I kinda like it. John Mayer must be stopped.

I'm surprised about Cole Armstrong, he's one of those crazy Canadians who has a preoccupation with 3's. Numbers 9, 33, 39, 48, in the past in the minors. Cole is a pimp though, he actually turned down Miss Alabama last year because he had a girlfriend.

QUOTE (GarlandFan20 @ Feb 10, 2009 -> 06:35 PM) And Rafael Santana. 17 is a coveted number! I miss Santana, he managed B'ham in 2007.

He saw me wearing a customized Barons jersey with the number 46 for the year and a half he was in B'ham.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 07:52 PM) I'm hoping Jerry Owens as well. 1. Jerry Owens, CF 2. Jayson Nix, 2B 3. Dayan Viciedo, 3B 4. Josh Kroger, LF 5. Michael Restovich, DH 6. Ben Broussard (???), 1B 7. David Cook, RF 8. Donny Lucy, C 9. Javier Castillo, SS That would be a pretty solid AAA lineup. Javier Castillo is no SS. He is a beast of a man, a corner infielder. I have one of his broken bats.

Brandon Allen will probably start the season in B'ham (I hope I hope I hope), but will be in Charlotte by mid season. I'm sure he'll hit about 25 HR in B'ham in the first 70 games. I wouldn't be surprised if Beckham and Danks play in B'ham in 2009. Maybe not at first, but at mid season. Greg Paiml will most likely start at B'ham in 2009. He will complete the story book of being a Barons bat boy, then playing at the high school nearby, then starting 4 years at Alabama, then drafted by the Sox, then starting for the Barons.

The Carribean Series starts in 10 minutes on MLB Network.

I think he's likely to be wearing a purple weenie on his chest come April. W-S needs a power hitting 1B type for 2009. Otherwise, Christian Marrero will be starting at 1B. I would guess that Brandon Allen will start out in B'ham (YAY!) and move up to Charlotte mid-season. Then, Loman comes up to B'ham.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 16, 2009 -> 10:28 AM) I was 19 as a college freshman, and I knew of several guys that turned 20 during their freshman year. I don't think that's really that big of an issue. When I graduated high school, I was barely 18 and most everybody else was 17. Only a handful of the kids were older than me. 19 I can understand, but if you're a 20 year old college freshman, then you were either held back a grade or two, or took some time off after high school.
-
Kyle Long is 20 and only a freshman in college??? Aren't most college freshman 17-18? How many grades did he repeat? Doesn't sound too smart to me. Not a surprise though, he is Howie's son.

QUOTE (almagest @ Jan 12, 2009 -> 01:05 PM) He was also busted for DUI. I hope he was driving a Silverado, otherwise he isn't a man and Pops will insult him.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 25, 2008 -> 09:33 PM) I would guess it's closer to zero than 50/50. It's a tough break for Lucy, but from the sounds of it, it's a pretty devastating injury. Those odds aren't long-term...I have no idea what type of character person Lucy is or how hard he works, so I can't comment in that regard, but if he's a hard worker, I imagine he'll get a shot at some point in time in some organization. Lunch pail, blue collar, works hard as anyone, is/was an absolute workhorse of a catcher. I saw him take a ball off the cup on a cold night. He played again the next night. If anyone could return from a kneecap injury, it would be Donny.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 19, 2008 -> 07:29 AM) This sounds straight. I wish there was a minor league baseball network. MiLB.tv is good to watch certain games. But, nobody would go if they were on TV. Minor League Baseball is actually affordable. I only pay $950 annually for two premium, first base dugout seats with waitress service and a season parking pass in the "A" lot. That's a AA team.

O’Malley re-signs with White Sox organization

QUOTE (SpringfieldFan @ Dec 20, 2008 -> 10:46 AM) Not a major name in the scheme of things, but had to post about a guy who graduated from my old high school here in Springfield: http://www.sj-r.com/sports/x1647199991/O-M...ox-organization Hopefully Tom Cruise won't get lit up again in B'ham in 2009. -
How do you hit the ball so hard on your homeruns? They sound like someone fired a cannon. And, what was your walk up music in B'ham just before you were sent up to Charlotte? Not the Dem Franchise Boyz song, "Talkin' Out The Side Of Ya Neck." The one you had last. Nobody knew what it was and it drove me nuts all year. They used it randomly for other players throughout the season after you left. I googled the lyrics but never came up with anything.

Sorry to see D-Rod go. Good pitcher, good swingman. Gets a lot of K's and groundballs. The good news is that he can come back if Tampa doesn't keep him, just like Fernando Hernandez last year. Ricardo Nanita...sigh...3 years as a Baron. He will be missed, hustled his butt off, could hit lefties better than righties, could play all three outfield spots. I just hope he gets a shot at AAA, I couldn't understand why he was never promoted while he was with the White Sox. Never saw Jason Rice. Valido... Valido... Valido.. Now he can infuriate the fans in Bowie or Norfolk. 3 years as a Baron, if you don't count his midseason demotions in 2006 and 2007. Just maddening to watch. I actually saw him hit a homerun last year. I know...UFO's, Bigfoot, Chupacabra, a Valido homerun...which one have you seen? Don't let the door hit you on the a$$ on the way out, Rob.

QUOTE (sayitaintso @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 02:51 PM) I wouldn't mind to see Chris Mason get picked up by us. His AAA numbers blow, but he straight up dominated AA and is said to be best suited for the pen, which is something we could use. Who knows, maybe Coop could work some magic on him and turn him into a viable 4th/5th starter option He looks like the fat hobbit with bleached blonde hair, ugly as sin.

It would be very awkward if Jordan Schafer played for the Barons if he came to the White Sox in a trade. He was heckled mercilessly when he was in town with the M-Braves.

So, is the red on the logo blood? Yikes...

QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 02:06 PM) How 'bout Rip Rock? "DASH DAVIS" as in "CRASH DAVIS," It goes with the location too.

QUOTE (hogsmom @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 05:42 PM) The mascot looks like Barney with a mohawk! I submitted the name "DASH DAVIS" in the name the mascot contest.

QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 05:53 PM) Someone's going to have to change their name, I'm guessing... I was wrong again, the colors are Purple, Black, Metallic Silver & Red.

I guess I was wrong, it's the Winston-Salem Dash, and the colors are blue, white & red. W-S Dash
