  1. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 09:19 AM) You forgot Sweeney and Sweeney on OAK. Jordan and Gordon...
  2. QUOTE (scenario @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 08:31 AM) 8/18/08. The Warthogs have won five in a row and are now just 1.5 games behind Kinston (Indians' farmclub) in the wild card race. It's their longest winning streak of the season. They are now 32-24 in the second half. One of the keys to their second half success has been the resurgence of John Ely. After starting the season with a 3-11 mark through mid-July, Ely has allowed only four earned runs and has 26 strikeouts over his last 28 innings. He was won his last 5 starts. W-S has 14 games remaining, including 4 at home vs. Kinston. Should be an interesting couple of weeks. Go Hogs! It's their last year as the "Warthogs." They'll have a new nickname and stadium in 2009.
  3. Beckham could help the Barons in the playoffs. It would be better than Valido.
  4. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 17, 2008 -> 02:28 PM) I am sure if he was in the Twins organization, he would have been called up by now and be hitting .315 playing GG defense. I like him, but I don't understand why he hasn't been promoted all year. In the past month he has been raking.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 16, 2008 -> 08:27 PM) Can "rain" be an option Number 5 starter please.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 16, 2008 -> 08:27 PM) Can "rain" be an option RAINNNNN!!!!
  7. QUOTE (scenario @ Aug 17, 2008 -> 09:59 AM) Worth being aware of... Miguel Negron's batting average is now up to .296 and his OBP is .382 And he's walked 8 more times than he's struck out this year. Possible that this former 1st round draft pick could bump Jerry Owens off the minor league depth chart next year? They both play CF. They both lead off. They're both left handed. Negron has more power than Owens (who has basically none). Owens has 12 homeruns in 6 years. Negron has 7 already this year. And Negron is 1 1/2 years younger than Owens. Not to mention a great defensive outfielder. He actually called his shot in a game a few weeks ago. Good guy, good ballplayer.
  8. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Aug 16, 2008 -> 08:40 PM) Birmingham v Tennesee Cruz 1-3 1HR. He's lost his mind lately hitting 5HR in the past 11 games giving him 8 on the season. Allen 1-3 Combined between B'ham, Kanny & W-S, Lee Cruz has 10 HR & 47 RBI. He's actually doing better at B'ham than the other two. He had an 0-34 slump in W-S before he was demoted to Kanny. After a week there, he was promoted to B'ham.
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 16, 2008 -> 11:55 AM) Credit also goes to PlaySumFnJurny for one of the greatest names to ever appear on the Internet. Better than mine? Nah.
  10. Powerhouse 6th round pick Kenny Williams Jr. hasn't played in 6 weeks. Must have strained his vag.
  11. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Aug 16, 2008 -> 01:00 AM) Leesman signed according to BA's list. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draftdb/200...m.php?team=1026 Yep, he's with Bristol now.
  12. QUOTE (BearSox @ Aug 16, 2008 -> 12:20 AM) Anyone know what Omogrosso's stuff is like? JPN? He's missed a lot of time this year with a weird injury that he told me about a few weeks ago. He was having lingering blister issues for the first few months of the season including two DL trips. It turned out, according to Brian, that he had a tumor in his finger that was causing the problem. It was harmless and it was removed, he showed me the scar. He was recently activated from his third DL stint. Stuff-wise, he has a fastball that touches 96 and a pretty wicked slider, not sure what else he throws, maybe a change-up. He has a motion similar to Bronson Arroyo, high leg kick in the wind-up, no leg kick in the stretch. And, he always runs on and off the field. Also, a very nice guy. Started the season off as the 5th starter, but is now pitching in relief.
  13. QUOTE (scenario @ Aug 15, 2008 -> 02:17 PM) Excellent. Thanks JPN. Key notes from the article: - $525,000 signing bonus - Joins Kannapolis on Tuesday. Credit goes to PlaySumFnJurny, he found the article and posted it.
  14. QUOTE (scenario @ Aug 15, 2008 -> 10:24 AM) CF Justin Greene was recently promoted from Bristol to Kanny. Not sure if that has any impact on where Danks will get sent, but thought it was worth noting. Gallagher and Marrero are holding down the corner outfield positions in Kannapolis. Neither of them is going to sit. Me thinks Greene could end up going back to Bristol to make room for Danks, although he was doing very well in Bristol and deserved the promotion. According to this article, Danks is headed for Kanny. Danks article
  15. He'll probably end up in Kanny with Beckham. They could use another outfielder. Although, I was wrong about Beckham.
  16. QUOTE (JFields27 @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 07:38 PM) Eh, whatever happens happens. Everywhere a minor league thread is we can find you there since you watch a lot of it, so I'll take that word. hah Tip of the hat to you.
  17. Richard was scratched last night, so he is fresh.
  18. You gotta have David Cook in the top 30 at least. Top Hitters Beckham/Shelby III (I'd wait to see what Beckham does in his two weeks with Kanny.) Danks Getz Bourgeois Allen Cook Retherford Gartrell Fields Armstrong (He needs a lot of work with the bat but has a lot of power, hitting well at Charlotte, he is a workhorse behind the plate though) Logan Johnson Martinez (Missed a lot of time this year.) Gallagher Top picthers Poreda (Needs work on his offspeed stuff, his fastball doesn't pop the glove for some reason, doesn't need a lot of effort to throw it though.) Richard Cassel Russell Broadway Ely Dexter Carter Nevin Griffith McCulloch (Feast or famine, not consistent enough.) Daniel Hudson Carlos Torres (Out on a limb here, but he's been a K machine this year as a starter.) Egbert (He's had a rough year though, but his K's are up.) Whisler (Great year so far pitching in a hitters park)
  19. I vote for "Broadway Lance" as the official nickname.
  20. QUOTE (JFields27 @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 06:34 PM) That one should be received well here. Welcome back Clayton hah! To some it's not a valid source. Even though he was also scratched from his start with Charlotte last night.
  21. QUOTE (scenario @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 10:18 AM) I'd just promote Miranda and let the managers figure it out. Yep, Miranda back to W-S.
  22. Here's a link to where you can listen to the Knights game from last night. Knights game 8/13
  23. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 07:14 PM) tribune sez Broadway has been sent back down. doesn't say anything about Clayton Richard. "It was announced on the Knights radio broadcast last night. That is why Richard didn't start for Charlotte like scheduled." Don't know how clearer I can be.
  24. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 06:11 PM) it's on the Chicago Tribune Web site. No word on who is going to replace him. here ya go Updated: 55 minutes ago White Sox's regard to Broadway: You're demoted The Associated Press 6:16 PM CDT, August 14, 2008 The White Sox optioned right-hander Lance Broadway to Triple-A Charlotte on Thursday, less than an hour after he started and got the win in a 9-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals. Broadway is 1-0 in two appearances for the White Sox after he was recalled from the minors four days ago. He pitched 5 1-3 innings Thursday and, after a shaky start, allowed five hits and two runs, both coming in the first inning. Broadway threw 100 pitches. "It's better than going back with a loss. I got up here, got a win -- things are pretty good," said Broadway, the White Sox's first-round selection in the 2005 draft. "They need some bullpen help. It's fine with me. Whatever they need." Broadway is expected to be called back up before the end of the season. "If I got to choose, I'd be back tomorrow. But whenever they need me," he said. "I'll be back in Charlotte having fun there, too." Clayton Richard was called up according to the Knights broadcasters.
