QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 04:52 PM) Cutty? You picked Cutty? What about the younger one? She's gorgeous, but Cutty? Wow. God blessed her backyard.

Crede to DL, Fields Called Up, Loaiza Released

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 03:57 PM) If you want to play in the bigs you don't go down to the minors to pout or be bored. You perform. Josh really hasn't performed well and I believe he was hurt for awhile also. If Joe is hurt than Fields is our only real option and if he doesn't respond like we need him to than maybe last season was a fluke? If Josh Fields played for any other organization in MLB, he wouldn't have been in AAA at all this year. -
Robert Valido has 22 errors.

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 07:34 AM) Yeah really. Come on JPN, not for one second did you think about this? If you read my original post... QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 10:00 PM) The big wigs from the Braves from office, including Frank Wren, were at the Barons/M-Braves game tonight. I don't know who they were there to scout, our guys or theirs, but Aaron Poreda was pitching. Just saying... I'm aware that Atlanta is awfully close to Birmingham because I live in Birmingham and I'm a Barons season ticket holder. I was there last night.

QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 10:07 AM) Poreda doing his best to impress the scouts. Ryan F'ing O'Malley went 1.1 innings, gave up 2 runs on 6 hits and picked up the win. Lee Cruz went 3-4, hit 2 homeruns, and had 4 RBIs. I can guarantee that whatever he ate yesterday and however he tied his shoes, crossed the street, etc., he is going to do the exact same things today. Anything to try and recreate whatever magic he conjured up last night. Ditto Robert Valido who went 3-4. Maybe the other team was holding "Help Keep a Guy in the League" night. And Miguel "Streaky" Negron had 3 hits too. He's been pretty good so far this year, batting .284. But he runs up and down the scale like an opera singer. Up to .300... down to .250... up to .290... down to .260... The Atlanta Braves front office was in attendance for some reason last night. The clock is ticking on O'Malley. I could tell Lee Cruz was going to hit that second homerun. The Barons scored 9 of their 11 runs in one inning. Negron called his shot Wednesday night. No kidding, he told everybody in the dugout that he was going to hit a homerun and he did.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 11:30 PM) Also, I believe all Matt Kemp dreams can be put aside...not only do the Sox not need another outfielder, what with Quentin, Dye, Swisher, Anderson, and potentially Cook and Owens in the minors (and that's not including Wise, who wouldn't be a surprise on the bench next year), but there's bad blood between the Birmingham - who just so happens to be a minor league affiliate - and Matt Kemp. I don't ever see him playing in a White Sox uniform unless it's years from now. Do you speak of Kemp's time in Jacksonville when he started brawls with the Barons when the Suns were blowing them out? I was there, he is a punk. Bad character guy.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 11:18 PM) Wassermann's last 10 games: 11 IP, 5 ER, 6 K, 3 BB, 13 hits. Far from great. Granted, the one outing does ruin his stats. Gartrell hit HRs in both games for the Barons today, worth noting. He's a stone cold pimp hitting machine. One was to dead center. Didn't even look like it was going out, his homeruns tend to find some extra air and get out.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 12:55 PM) Loiaza: 2 inn, 1 hit, 0 runs, but i am sure nothing in terms of velocity. Yep. Topped out at 80.

It's the first home rainout for the Barons since April 4th. B'ham didn't have a home rainout all year last year.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 21, 2008 -> 02:11 PM) -- Wow, he's 6-foot-6. Hope he has command. Sometimes these tall guys are wild. Should be an interesting start against the hot hitting Rangers (except last weekend). Those minor leaguers in the clip are aggressive at the plate. They come out swingin. Funny thing is that there has been a discrepancy about his height and weight since he turned pro. He is actually 6'5" 240, but some official info on him had him listed as 6'0" 175. I've heard opposing team announcers say that and they're looking right at him. The back of his 2008 Barons card has him listed as 6'0" 175.

QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Jul 22, 2008 -> 10:40 PM) Birmingham vs. Mississippi postponed It's still raining. We're getting cast off weather from the hurricane in the Gulf. I was 20 minutes into "The Dark Knight" when the theater lost power last night. Anyway, the Barons and M-Braves are supposed to play a DH tomorrow starting at 4:35 CT.

QUOTE (Jim Spencer @ Jul 22, 2008 -> 12:34 AM) Cole Armstrong hit a Monster 2 run HR in the 10th Carlos Torres made his 1st start for the Knights 4 1/3, he threw alot of strikes (no BB), but they were hitable strikes Jason Childers pitched 2 scoreless for the victory, he's 4-1 now with a 1.28 era Cole is a big strong kid. He's got light tower power, but not a good average hitter.

QUOTE (BamaJason @ Jul 17, 2008 -> 11:38 PM) One day in last weeks games, I witnessed Valido overthrow from short to first and hit someone about 4 rows up. Thank goodness it was during pre-inning fielding instead of during game action. Either way, it was typical of him. Be glad you haven't witnessed most of his errors this year. He's going to cost us a playoff game.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 18, 2008 -> 06:46 AM) Wasnt Valido busted for PED's a few years back? Or am I thinking of someone else? That was him.

QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 17, 2008 -> 08:16 PM) And Allen hits another homerun in his second at-bat!!! Also off of Mr. Untouchable... David Price. Coming into tonight's game, Price was 8-0 with a 1.68 ERA this season and had given up ZERO homeruns all year. The stone cold pimp hitting machine Gartrell hit number 10 tonight.

QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 17, 2008 -> 09:47 PM) Don't know if there is a connection to Dicky Thon or not. Freddie was playing for the Joliet Jackhammers in the Northern League when we picked him up. http://www.northernleague.com/cgi-bin/reca...i?id=1212703169 Nope, he's Puerto Rican.

QUOTE (Felix @ Jul 17, 2008 -> 08:41 PM) Looked pretty good last time I saw him. I saw him last week against the Salt Lake Bees and he was on top of his game. Got into jams, but go out of them effectively. He struck out seven over 7.1 innings and allowed only five hits and no runs. I saw his fastball at 92 consistently and it seemed to stay there for his entire stay in the game. He can do wonders with his fastball, especially in the later innings. I saw him strike out 13 guys last year throwing mostly fastballs, just moving it around from corner to corner. If he doesn't make it as a starter, he would be one hell of a set up man. Plus...Gio Gonzalez = Nicest. Guy. Ever.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 17, 2008 -> 08:34 PM) Anyone know what the deal is with Freddie Thon? MiLB.com lists him as on Bakersfield, but the W-S box score from tonight's game shows him playing for the Warthogs. ??? Signed him out of independent ball, The Joliet Jackhammers. He was with Bakersfield last year. Since Schnurstein refused his demotion, W-S needed another first baseman.
-
QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 17, 2008 -> 05:34 PM) Brandon Allen promoted to the Barons. Got the official word from the Barons GM on Micah. He was offered a demotion to W-S, he refused it and was released. So, at least he had a choice in the matter. Javier Colina was promoted to Charlotte, Javier Castillo and Carlos Torres were sent back to B'ham.
-
QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 17, 2008 -> 01:26 PM) Good point. That would have made alot of sense. He obviously can hit in the Carolina League as we know. Anyway, according to the Barons broadcasters, significant and "exciting" roster moves are coming today. They couldn't talk about them last night.
-
As long as they don't send Oney Guillen or Kenny Jr. to B'ham in his place. I would vomit and burn my season tickets.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 17, 2008 -> 07:39 AM) That's pretty much exactly how I feel as well. He's been in the org now for a while and hasnt produced much in th elast couple years. Also, drawing comparisons to Valido arent good b/c they play two different positions. It does kinda suck though that he was released just prior to his birthday as JPN said. Gotta wonder if this was done to promote someone possibly? If you guys had watched them both play over the past three seasons, you'd agree with me that Valido should go before anyone else. Schnurstein led the Southern League in fielding percentage for first basemen and Valido has 20 errors. 20 boneheaded errors, and that's not being partial or spiteful. That's just the ugly truth about Valido. It just seems a little on the harsh side. I know it's a business, but you don't go that cold on a guy who grew up a diehard White Sox fan and hold onto a pitiful clown who nobody wanted in the Rule 5 draft last December. They should have just demoted him and promoted Brandon Allen or C.J. Retherford. W-S is making a playoff push in the second half and Micah could have helped down there.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 17, 2008 -> 01:34 AM) It does suck...I liked Schnur. It's hard to argue with the decision though...he's a 24 year old 1B/3B who hasn't hit a lick this season, and there are players below him who deserve a shot. It was a put up or shut up season for Schnur, and he was quiet all year. Valido is 23, has drawn rave reviews from Ozzie in the past, and plays middle infield...there are differences between the two, but I'd be quite surprised if Valido is in the organization come this time next year though too. I wish him the best of luck wherever he ends up...from everything that's been mentioned of him, he seems like a hell of a guy. Hopefully someone can help him figure it out. True, but to release him 2 days before his birthday, c'mon. In Valido's case, he can't field, throw, or hit. Plus, he has a terrible attitude.
-
QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jul 17, 2008 -> 01:49 AM) Son of a b****... I always liked Schnur. I had big hopes for the guy when we took him out of high school in Nevada. Hell of a guy too. He gave me one of his fielding gloves in 2006 just because I always showed up to support the team. He's been my favorite player since, as you can see...
