QUOTE (letsgoarow @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 09:01 PM) My friend just no hit the Barons!!!! I know that sounds bad but friends b4 minor league sox lol eeehhhh, yeah, 14 K's, 3 BB, no hits. A night to forget for the Barons, I'm just glad it wasn't a home game for them. That's what happens when you take 50 Schnur out of the lineup.

QUOTE (moragasoxfan @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 03:35 PM) The radar gun on the field in B'Ham is a little hot; he actually topped out at 97 on Friday, according to other sources. You're right about his height; he's probably closer to 6'5". However, he does weight 235 - 240 lbs. Standing next to catcher Cole Armstrong, who is 6'3" 220, Aaron looked leaner and barely taller.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 04:20 PM) not to mention down the stretch we will have owens on the team (at least in sept) that will be our designated pinch runner That's if Owens isn't on the DL like he is right now with Charlotte.

QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 02:09 PM) Yep. When I look into the crystal ball, I see insurance sales in his future. There are smart ballplayers, ballplayers with skill and those with both. Valido's not one of the smart ones. A Florida beach bum is in his future if baseball doesn't pan out.

QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 03:02 PM) If Valido continues to hit at his current level... This will be the 3rd consecutive year he finishes the season with an OBP under .300... and OPS under .600. Like I said, this season he's improved with the bat. Sad, huh?

QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 01:34 PM) I think his name has now legally been changed to F'ing Valido. The annual tradition of him being demoted back to W-S hasn't occurred yet. But, it's usually about this time of year.

QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 01:34 PM) I think his name has now legally been changed to F'ing Valido. His defense this year has been a bigger liability than his bat, 17 errors, mostly throwing. Also trying to be cute backhanding balls and letting them through. I don't think he has the arm for shortstop anymore. He is a holy terror on the basepaths though. If he's back in the system next year, I see him either playing second for B'ham or shortstop for Charlotte.
-
I'm no Valido fan, but I've seen significant improvement from him this year. Plus, he's just barely 23, so I think he deserves the rest of the year at B'ham. After this year, I don't know. I guess let him have a shot at Charlotte in 2009. In regards to Beckham, I see him going to Great Falls when he signs, then W-S to start 2009. Paiml will probably start out in B'ham in 2009, he's a native of B'ham and former Barons batboy. There's no telling though, with Silverio, Escobar & Miranda in the mix as well. My guess is that Beckham will be on the fast track to Chicago. He still needs to add weight.

QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 24, 2008 -> 08:41 PM) He went through sort of a prolonged slump after a very hot start. Quite likely if he picks it back up that he'll end in W-S before the end of the year. Also... it looks like Eduardo Escobar was promoted from Great Falls to Kannapolis. He's in the Kanny lineup tonight. Nick Mahin was promoted to Kanny as well. Lee Cruz was promoted from Kanny to B'ham a week after he was demoted to Kanny from W-S.
-
Why hasn't Logan Johnson been promoted yet? He's got 10 homers and 39 RBI's. He's already 24, so maybe he should get a shot at W-S or B'ham. I imagine he'd at least start out at B'ham in 2009, but he should at least get a promotion to W-S this year.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 24, 2008 -> 05:47 PM) Beat this: "Senior John McKee singled to lead off the top of the eleventh inning. He was lifted for pinch runner Kurt Calvert, who moved second on a sacrifice bunt by senior Gary Arndt and then went to third on a ground out by junior Evan Frey. Then, with junior Brock Bond at the plate, a throw back from the UT catcher Preston Clark sailed over the head of the Longhorn pitcher Randy Boone, allowing Calvert to score the go-ahead run." Mizzou won at Texas last year on that. That's the craziest go-ahead/winning run situation I've heard of. The Barons won two games this past week on throwing and fielding errors by Ivan DeJesus Jr. that allowed the winning run to score for walk off victories.

QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 24, 2008 -> 11:39 AM) Kannapolis @ Lexington tonight Levi Maxwell the probable starter Looks like milb.com is offering video coverage on this game. Yeah, but it's only one camera shot from the press box level, nothing to get excited about.

Nick Blasi bears a striking resemblance to Kevin Mench.
-
By the way, Brad Eldred and Jerry Owens are on the DL. Eldred broke his left hand and is out 2 to 4 weeks. Don't know about how long Owens is out. Noah Hall was promoted from B'ham and Nick Blasi was signed off the street. He had played for Tacoma, Sacramento and Midland.

QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Jun 23, 2008 -> 10:50 PM) The David Cook enthusiasm has definitely picked up on this site since he came up to Charlotte. I just wish he wasn't so old. Can anyone speak for him on behalf of his defense? I have no idea what OF positions he even plays, nor how good he is at it. He's 26...that's old? He can play all three spots and play them well. He is a five tool guy.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 24, 2008 -> 12:38 AM) I know he's just supposedly a taller Heath Phillips, but Clayton Richard has been GREAT this year. He was awesome at Birmingham, and now on fire at Charlotte. Clayton can actually hit 90 and go over that.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 11:31 PM) Who the hell is Gartrell? A stone cold pimp hitting machine. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/news/ar...sp&sid=l111

Poreda was what I expected. His velocity was in the high 90's, touching 99 at one point. Although his delivery was almost effortless. You wouldn't think he'd generate that kind of speed with his throwing motion. One thing that is not true about Aaron...he's not 6'6" nor 240. I'd say he's about 6'4" and 1/2 and about 220.

About tonights Barons game, I call that a punch to the gut game. Why? Because the Barons were down but chipping away. Micah Schnurstein, who's been struggling this year and is hitting under .200, blasts a three run homer to left to make it a one run game. But no...the f---ing umpires gather together and decide it wasn't a homer. The homeplate ump called it a homerun originally, but allows himself to be overruled by the the 1st base ump. Let that sink in a bit...homerun to left, homeplate ump calls it so, 1ST BASE UMP OVERRULES! Carlos Subero got tossed for arguing. Schnurstein proceeded to strike out. He said something to the umpire and he got tossed. Now, it was Thirsty Thursday, so the crowd got real ugly after that. Then the Barons lost. Like I said, a punch to the gut game.

Estee Harris was a former Yankees prospect who's been playing for the Long Island Ducks the last two years. He's only 23. Brett Bonvechio is a former Red Sox and Padres prospect who's been playing for the Camden Riversharks this year. He was teammates with current Barons catcher Erick San Pedro with the Riversharks before San Pedro was signed by Chicago.

QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 19, 2008 -> 02:18 PM) Yeah, Onarkys Paniagua probably has him beat. LOL. And any baseball player named Juicer ought to consider a name change to avoid suspicion, don't you think? Yeah, "Joucer," how horribly ironic. It would be so awesome if they played for B'ham one day.
-
QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 19, 2008 -> 09:44 AM) Murillo Gouvea... I think he's my 2008 nominee for best name in the minor league system. I beg to differ...Onarkys Paniagua and Joucer Martinez.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 18, 2008 -> 10:50 PM) Birmingham won 2-1. -Cassel with a very good outing, going 7 innings allowing 5 hits, 2 walks, and striking out 4. He did not allow any runs but picked up the no decision as the Barons have virtually no offensive threat. However, their lone RBI came from Valido. Although, the Barons game had a great ending. In the top of the 9th, Jacksonville scored the first run of the game. Both Fernando Hernandez and Carlos Subero got tossed for arguing with the homeplate umpire. Bottom 9, Schnur led off with a single (he's good at starting rallies), Nanita drew a walk, Gartrell laid down a sac bunt to move them over, Hall was intentionally walked, Valido knocked in Schnurstein, then San Pedro grounded to short, but it was mishandled, Nanita scored and the Barons won.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 16, 2008 -> 09:08 PM) Yes this is true...but IIRC there are limits to the length of a rehab stint you can do without having to use up a minor league option (aka clearing waivers in ELo's case) I heard Loaiza will make another rehab start on June 21st that will also be 3 innings or 60 pitches.
