QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 16, 2008 -> 06:07 PM) Fields DL? Por qua? Don't know the details, just heard that on the Knights broadcast.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 16, 2008 -> 06:07 PM) Seriously, how does that work? He was only on the DL a few days. It doesn't matter, players always rehab with a minor league team while they're on the MLB DL.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 16, 2008 -> 04:57 PM) So, this is interesting. Charlotte is at Richmond, they are in rain delay (box), but the listed starter is... ESTEBAN LOAIZA. B-Ham is off - looks like the whole Southern League is off today. W-S @ Kinston, supposedly started at 6pm, but no box yet and no starter announced. Kanny, and the whole SAL, appear to be off. Loaiza on rehab, Fields on the DL, Javier Castillo promoted from B'ham. The Warthogs game was cancelled a long time ago. It won't be played.

Javier Castillo has been promoted to Charlotte and Esteban Loaiza is beginning a rehab assignment with Charlotte. The Barons are being gutted. Nobody has taken Castillo's roster spot with B'ham. Josh Fields has gone on the DL again.

QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 16, 2008 -> 10:55 AM) He must have been hurt earlier in the year, because he wasn't getting alot of playing time. He sure is making up for it now though. I agree with your thought about him getting promoted. The Sox thought highly enough of him to send him to winter ball after his great year at GF... so he must be on their radar screen. Now that he's proved he can smack low-A ball pitching around... move him up. Yeah, he was on the DL for awhile.

QUOTE (TCQ @ Jun 16, 2008 -> 01:05 PM) I was watchin Baseball Tonight the other day and they were doing their best of so far awards. THey gave the sox bullpen the best in the AL, and rightfully so, but he gave the cubs the best starting pitching in the NL? Also no recognition of the sox starters, dont they lead the league in quality starts and are the sole reason this teams in first. The Cubs thing is laughable because Z, whens hes not crying or beating something like an ape, is legitimate and then thats about. I dont see dempster throwing 200 innings a year after closing and after him lilly and marquis have been inconsistant. Teams are struggling on the road because they can't take amphetamines anymore according to Phillips.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 15, 2008 -> 10:59 PM) Sidenote: I just realize Salvador Sanchez is back from injury. He is 0-21 with one walk since his return, ouch. He was on bereavement leave. He may have other things on his mind.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 13, 2008 -> 08:19 PM) I am gonna call him Cookie. If he ever got to the majors and got an hanging curve, I can only imagine Hawk saying "Cookie got a cookie." Ed Collari (Warthogs) and Curt Bloom (Barons) already beat you to it.

By the way, Jeff Liefer retired. That's why he hasn't played since May 27th. Funny, since there is an article just posted today on MiLB.com about him and the difference between playing in Japan and in the minors in the USA.

It really is all my fault...Oh s**t! Is this thing on?!

QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Jun 13, 2008 -> 01:00 PM) So is this type of mid-season reshuffling fairly common, or could this be the comeuppeance from what Bureau was talking about before? (Players unfairly benched, etc). Nice login name by the way. I remember that guy, a journeyman catcher, right? Anyway, Generally yes, this is common and because B'ham has already clinched a spot in the playoffs, their players who did well deserve a promotion to help at AAA. Although, I hope some of them come back in September if Charlotte doesn't make the playoffs.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 13, 2008 -> 01:08 PM) I'm not sure what your obsession with David Weathers is, but I don't think KW has one. You always make it seem like KW is going to trade every other prospect for him. Besides that point, Cook is an older outfielder...he looks quite a bit like a late bloomer right now, but the Sox have Dye, Swisher, Quentin, Anderson, and, if you want to consider him, Owens too. Trading Cook either alone or in a package for a potential upgrade anywhere - be it the bench or bullpen (if that's even necessary) - is completely logical. By David Weathers, I mean an older, veteran reliever. I just use Weathers as an obvious example. Why trade Cook instead of Anderson or Owens? I'd take Cook over those two any day. And, I like Jerry Owens. He was B'ham's MVP in 2005. Just because Anderson was once the top prospect doesn't mean you keep him over a five tool guy like Cook, who is probably better. Brian Anderson was a great AA player, but he's yet to prove otherwise.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 12:09 PM) Ryan O'Malley is released from B'ham. That move was voided. Ryan O'Malley was not released by B'ham. Derek Rodriguez was promoted to Charlotte to take Adam Russell's place when he goes up to Chicago.
-
Matt Anderson and Rob Bell were released by Charlotte and Gookie Dawkins was traded to Omaha.

You can bold out 1377 Lee Fischer. He's been assigned to Kannapolis.

Joe Persichina has been promoted to Winston-Salem. The first White Sox draft pick for this year to be assigned to a minor league team is...drum roll...46th round pick Lee Fischer has been assigned to Kannapolis to take Persichina's place. http://mutigers.cstv.com/sports/m-basebl/m...cher_lee00.html

There is a picture on the Barons website of the team celebrating after they clinched on Monday night. It comes up after the picture of Aaron Poreda. Just thought I'd let you guys know if you're interested. No, I'm not in the shot, almost though. http://www.barons.com/

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 12:30 PM) If he does rake at Charlotte, its kind of a shame that he's got nowhere to go. The Sox are pretty well loaded for outfielders this year and next. I get the feeling he'll be headed elsewhere to get his shot at the majors. I'm sure Kenny Williams would love to trade him for David Weathers.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 11:37 AM) So Cook is a solid OF defender at all positions? With his bat, if he can mash at AAA too, and if he's that good defensively, he may turn into something really valuable. Yes, he's good at all three spots. Good arm, good range, good hustle. Knights Castle is a much smaller ballpark, so his power numbers should at least be the same if not more. I defintely think he's major league caliber. He's the ideal ballplayer. Always seemed locked in and focused at the plate. A team player all the way. If there is a guy on third with less than two outs, he'll hit the ball the other way either on the ground or in the air. Like I said, the ideal ballplayer.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 12:14 PM) Good to see Cook move up (sorry to the Barons fans!) - I wonder where he'll play. Colina is deserving it looks like. As for the W-S spot, while Miranda appears to be getting it figured out finally, I doubt they will re-promote him again that quickly. I'd bet on Persichina. Cook can play all three outfield spots and play them well. He's only played RF and CF this year though. Charlotte will finally have plenty of outfielders now. No more Chris Getz and Fernando Cortez in LF. Persichina would fill Colina's void perfectly. Colina played 1st, 2nd & 3rd for the Warthogs and so can Joe. He can even play OF in a pinch.
-
Well David Cook has been promoted to Charlotte. (Sad fugee face) Dewon Day is demoted to B'ham, Ryan O'Malley is released from B'ham. Javier Colina is promoted to B'ham from Winston-Salem. The Warthogs will have an open roster spot now. My guess is either Sergio Miranda will return from Kanny or my money would be on Joe Persichina to move up there from Kanny. He's an awesome, hard-nosed ballplayer.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 11, 2008 -> 05:54 PM) I assume Lucy is also on the DL. Since May 2nd.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 11, 2008 -> 03:39 PM) Any compensating moves announced? Gookie Dawkins was released from Charlotte to make room for Clayton Richard. Poreda took Richard's spot in the rotation and on the roster in B'ham. Salvador Sanchez was reinstated from the bereavement list in Winston-Salem and took Poreda's roster spot. I still think Jeff Liefer is on the DL in Charlotte as well as someone else, either Matt Anderson who hasn't picthed since June 3rd or Rob Bell. It would be so nice if they'd update the roster properly or at least respond to e-mails.

The moves are official now.
