QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 20, 2009 -> 03:45 PM) Marrero is eligible and was left off. He was 19 on the day he was drafted, and you have to be 18 to get the 5 evaluation years. Damn, yes I am pissed now.

I want to see it.

QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Nov 20, 2009 -> 01:32 PM) Exactly, what were the biggest knocks on Shelby coming into this year? His BB% and K%. What did he do this year? Improve both dramatically. The drop in average can be attributed to poor luck (BABIP). I expect him to perform much better next year. I'm assuming he would repeat AA in 2010 and have a clearly defined role as well as his own sense of urgency to step it up.

QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 20, 2009 -> 11:42 AM) Sox protected: Stefan Gartrell-OF Brandon Hynick-RHP Brian Omogrosso-RHP Sergio Santos-RHP Santo Luis -RHP http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/press...sp&c_id=cws Gartrell makes sense. Hynick does too. Omogrosso is going to miss all of 2010, so why? Santos...great fastball, no control. Luis is just flat out bad, he'll be 26 at the start of 2010 and will be making his first AA roster more than likely. I don't think Marrero is eligible.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 08:27 PM) Brandon fanned 40 times in just over 100 AB in the major leagues in 2009. He hit below .200 in the AZ fall league. The D-Backs were close to acquiring Lyle Overbay to play 1B in 2010. Allen is far from ready to help a major league team win anything worthwhile. There's always time for adjustments in the majors. You know that. Just because someone puts up a bad stat line in 100 AB's doesn't mean they suck. Overbay is a perfect insurance policy guy if Allen were to struggle. I'm sure that's why they were looking at him, especially if all they had to give up was Chris Snyder.

QUOTE (scenario @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 12:43 PM) Other Possibles? (not sure whether they are eligible, but think they probably are) Christian Marrero Anthony Carter Ryan Rote Israel Chirino Tyson Corley Lee Cruz Matt Inouye and a few other players in the lower minors Rote was released after the season, Inouye was released back in May and Chirino has been out of the organization since 2008. Tsk tsk, Patrick.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 08:30 PM) 2 months after I graduated I got married, I needed better money than beginner radio money. So, I went to work as the technology coordinator at my church. It payed better. No surprise there.

What's even worse, Cowley is a Steelers fan. Yuck.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 07:22 PM) Funny you mention this, my unofficial broadcast career started last Friday doing play-by-play for the GVSU Hockey team. Remember that PM you sent me a while back? That was reassuring. :lol" Oh, and my favorite line from the reponse he sent you: "so don’t tell me how you can do my job. You can’t. You don’t have the training, the access or the staying power." I wish I could pass along more reassurance, but unfortunately I can't. Better to know ahead of time than later on.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 07:45 PM) I agree. I don't understand why he couldn't have just said "That's something that came out of a White Sox fan message board or blog. Why don't we all agree to let them dream..." And that would have been just fine with me. Or that he read a rumor on a blog, but his sources told him otherwise. There was no need for the insults. Just being a pompous jerk for the hell of it.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 06:30 PM) One should never, ever, give oneself one's own nickname... What's done is done.

Since Jay Hineybird is Jay Hineybird, can we have a vote on Cowley's nickname? My vote is for "Cowleysaurus."
-
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 05:52 PM) I hope you're doing better in broadcasting than me.

Flowers gave himself that nickname, he has it tattooed on his arm.

QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 05:00 PM) I won't believe this until Cowley writes about it... so I guess I will be waiting a few days.... He'll be too busy eating children until next week.
-
QUOTE (WCSox @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 04:53 PM) And what does it say that a bunch of Sox fans who cover the team AS A HOBBY scoop Cowley on stories? Jason Gage owns Joe Cowley.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 04:58 PM) White Sox Show Interest in Henry Blanco By Jason Gage Well, obviously this can't be true at all.

Continued correspondance with Lil' Joe... First of all, I respect some bloggers out there that stay in their lane and understand what they are doing. There are some that are very entertaining. You aren’t one of them. Actually, I’m still waiting to hear of that wave of news you are breaking in Birmingham. You don’t see me coming to the carnie and telling you how to set up the teacup ride or how well-shaved the bearded lady should be on a daily basis, so don’t tell me how you can do my job. You can’t. You don’t have the training, the access or the staying power. You’re a frustrated writer with a laptop. There’s a reason the Sox won’t credential bloggers – because they are children with a gun in too many cases. Now, if I want you to get involved in anything I am saying about another blog site I will let you know. Until then, sit in the corner and let the adults talk. Your buddy, JC My response... I get to see the White Sox future players before you ever do, keep that in mind. I know more about them now than you'll know in 3 or 4 years. I spent the entire season answering question after question from people about Gordon Beckham, Tyler Flowers, Aaron Poreda, Dayan Viciedo, Clevelan Santeliz and C.J. Retherford. I know Jason Gage, so I have every right to stick up for him. He's not "getting out of his lane." I know it's difficult to do your job nowadays because you're usually the last person to find out something, but that doesn't give you the right to demean or patronize anybody. Stop worrying about who knows what first, it's not a pissing contest. You reporters are so full of yourselves, it's sad. I thought Jay Hineybird was bad, but you're worse. Other people who aren't in your dying industry have sources, face facts. Get off your high horse and stop being such a smug know it all snob. You're a dinosaur and you're close to being extinct. Nobody wants your job, they don't want to be unemployed and s**t out of luck in 5 years. Cheers, JPN

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 01:04 PM) What's Cowley's email address? I'm a blogger too and I'm mad as hell!!!!! [email protected]

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 01:00 PM) Haha, I will admit, I've seen a couple of the movies....and never seen any single TV episode of star trek in full. Nerd alert! You must live in your mom's basement!

In a nutshell, he has trouble with infield flyballs. It won't be any better in the outfield.

My e-mail to Joe Cowley, edited for content... You are a c***sucker. I'm a Birmingham Barons season ticket holder and I break news all the time to White Sox fans on my blog. Just because your journalism jobs are disappearing because newspapers are dying doesn't excuse you from taking shots at legitimate bloggers who are just as capable as you are. Times have changed, you aren't the alpha and omega of news anymore. Jason Gage is a legitimate White Sox blogger, I am as well, you are a f***ing clown and Jason Gage hung a clown suit on your sorry a$$. Cheers, JPN

These people who went to school for journalism are threatened by people who can get the same info as them. Most sports journalists are snobby a$$holes. They think they know better than us little pions. I can respect guys like Jason Whitlock and Bill Simmons because they aren't full of themselves. If I recall correctly, I broke the news that Beckham was promoted to AAA, unless someone somewhere else did before me? And, by definition, I am a blogger. But, in a nutshell, Joe Cowley is a c***sucker. I think I'll e-mail him that myself...

I think he could play third just fine for a while (see my article about him on Future Sox), but it doesn't seem like the White Sox want him there longterm.
