  1. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 4, 2012 -> 09:43 AM) Just occurred to me, there is another name that may be in the Charlotte rotation this year - Charlie Shirek. My personal view is that he's better off in the 'pen in Charlotte, as his numbers as a reliever have been much better than as a starter (plus his smallish build, mostly two-pitch repertoire and velocity also point to this). We'll see, when the Charlotte and B-Ham rosters are announced. Bingo! Shirek is the opening day starter for Charlotte tomorrow.
  2. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Apr 3, 2012 -> 09:40 PM) The tornado was about 2 miles north west of the plant I work at. The funny thing was you could hear the entire storm from even where I was... it wasn't the "MOMMA A FREIGHT TRAINS AC OMIN" sound, but it was a constant roar, almost like a low end thunder roll that kept going and going. I was standing outside watching the wall cloud but where our plant is we are in a bit of a recession so I couldn't see it. Our VP GM comes out of the parking lot and told me to hop in and we'd go take a look. We get out to the highway and damn, huge wall cloud and tornado was right in front of us. He snapped a pic and we got the hell out of there. On the way back home, the neighborhood we were at was pretty much destroyed and the place we were on the highway had house debris all over it (roof decking, frames, etc.) and the trees were all snapped off. I pray for those people, they are going to have a rough night. And out of all this, no one got severely injured. It could have been really bad because these weren't rope tornados, they were pretty big ones. Glad to hear you're okay. Hopefully we won't get hit here again tomorrow.
  3. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 3, 2012 -> 06:19 PM) No doubt, but I'm guessing they'd rather give him the innings than Veal. Long term, Heath is a reliever. I don't think he ever started before last year, even when he was in the Braves organization. It all depends on what the White Sox want from Veal.
  4. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Apr 3, 2012 -> 10:37 AM) Yeah. People are tweeting that they don't look that different. Except the Seahawks. Which I guess are awful. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Apr 3, 2012 -> 10:39 AM) Seattle's uniforms are hideous Don't hate.
  5. I could see the AAA rotation being Leesman, Veal, Axelrod, Doyle & Olsen.
  6. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 3, 2012 -> 01:06 PM) Wonder what happened with Scott Olsen this spring? I didn't hear one word about him. We'll see when more minor league cuts come, but he may have just been in minor league camp the whole time and didn't do anything to move off the AAA roster.
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 3, 2012 -> 09:19 AM) Dubler could easily just be gone, but if he's still around, he will likely back up in B-Ham. Silverio is likely in AA, since he finished in High A last year and the org still seems to like him. Dubler has to be in B'ham, Jared Price & Adam Ricks were released and there is no other catcher in the system that I'm aware of that would be AA ready. I know Silverio had a good run in High A last year, but he'd be a better fit for Winston-Salem than Birmingham. Third base in W-S is going to be manned by Jake Oester and Carlos Sanchez. Unless Silverio has been moved to the outfield, that might work for B'ham. I only have Jose Martinez, Jared Mitchell & Kenny Williams Jr. projected for B'ham. Corey Smith could go to Charlotte, but there's no room for him there
  8. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 3, 2012 -> 08:58 AM) Birmingham is going to have a fun rotation to follow with Molina, Castro, Hernandez, and Quintana in it. Not sure who the 5th starter will be, but I'm sure Petricka will be up fairly quickly. Cameron Bayne will likely be the 5th starter.
  9. Thoughts... Could Kevin Dubler be headed for B'ham? Where is Juan Silverio? Likely for B'ham, four guys, Seth Loman, Corey Smith, Andy Wilkins and Jon Gilmore, for three positions, 1B, 3B and DH. Who backs up Phegley in Charlotte? Espino or Gimenez? And, does Dubler back up the one who winds up in B'ham?
  10. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 2, 2012 -> 07:34 AM) No big surprises, though Colligan sure was an epic disappointment. Came in with so much talent, never put it together. Too busy with his clothing business with Daniel Wagner. Colligan didn't even report to ST until the first week of March.
  11. So they decided to got through the C's and cut a bunch of players...Tyson Corley, Justin Cassel, Kyle Colligan and Alden Carrithers.

    2012 Book Thread

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Mar 29, 2012 -> 10:53 PM) I think he was better at this in The Blind Side. Moneyball was brutal with the amount of times I would have to re-read what he wrote to get what he was going for. Exactly, it's almost like he's stuttering.

    2012 Book Thread

Reading "Moneyball" right now. Michael Lewis is a brutal writer. The book is entertaining, but he can't write a clean sentence to save his life.
  14. Delwyn Young or Christian Marrero > Greg Golson
  15. QUOTE (Jake @ Mar 29, 2012 -> 03:55 PM) And thus begins a horrifying trend of posters being attached to fringey minor league players. My lone AAP was Bobby Jenks and I'm not sure if I want to break my hot streak Just try to gauge who may a be a future criminal.

    2012 TV Thread

I for one don't tire of seeing the Kate Upton MLB 2K12 commercial on TV. It runs constantly on MLB Network, practically a continual loop.
  17. The Gazelle commercial chick...hot or not? I'm leaning towards hot, I like all shades of redheads.

    2012 Films Thread

Got the new Muppets movie for my son because he loves the old movies. Amy Adams can have a "Me Party" on my face anytime.
  19. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Feb 26, 2012 -> 12:43 AM) No vinyl release planned for the new Mars Volta album as of right now. Fail. Nevermind, vinyl's due out at the end of May.
  20. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Mar 28, 2012 -> 07:59 PM) Me too, made improvements to his approach every year, good BB K ratio, a little power, a little speed and good OBP. Yeah, he's a hard worker and has solid character. He was probably the one player I talked to more than any other.
