QUOTE(SnB @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 01:10 PM) Honestly, one of the best things about soxtalk is there's a close group of around 50-75 or so of the posters that have been around a long while that know each other so well. I've met alot in person and have had nothing but awesome experiences with everyone. It's like high school all over again. There's some good people here. And there's Jason.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 01:11 PM) I don't think that is factored in at all honestly. I believe this is all because of people who don't have jobs anymore, and the loss of productivity both because of the lost jobs and the diverting of resources to the afflicted area. From everything I have read, the elasticity of gasoline makes for a smallish reduction in consumption. Okey doke. You're the nerd to ask.

What about Mario? He's got serious podcast experience.

And, I don't want to be a jinx, but the Count has been lights out.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 01:06 PM) We have also staged bloodless coups, but that is a story for a different day. Of course, then there's the bloody, oh so bloody, coups.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 01:05 PM) The August Beige book is predicting that 400,000 or more people could be added to the unemployment rolls after Katrina, and subtract as much as one full point from economic growth figures http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/weather/090705...na_economy.html Would increased fuel costs and a newer reluctance for people to drive places have anything to do with that?
-
Seriously, though, the staff here likes to have fun too. Anybody remember the thread where Jason and I went back and forth editing what each other was saying and going into the admin panel and f***ing with each other's profiles and stuff? How many other places can that happen?
-
We've banned Jason before.

QUOTE(Goldmember @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 12:57 PM) linkage odly enough, found on my yahoo... That is strange. It's like if we posted a link to a news story that says quoting SS2k gives you herpes....

QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 11:26 AM) I'm donating my time today to volunteer at an American Cross blood drive, donate $50, then give some blood. Hopefully I can now be forgiven of being a huge cynical asshole. Yup. Now you'll just be an asshole.

I'll give WSI credit. They don't have a filter that automatically changes the text "Soxtalk" into "that other place" within any post. But of course, the point of that site has nothing to do with us. :rolly: .... LV... As a staff we generally like to be accountable and easy to access. If we don't email you or PM you back, chances are that we forgot, try again. The admins and mods don't try and act like they are better than anyone else here. Of course, watch out for Steff. She's got fangs.

QUOTE(Middle Buffalo @ Sep 6, 2005 -> 10:34 PM) Since people are talking attendance, did the Soxtalk & (I forget the other sox board name) outing ever happen? If so, was there tension like "West Side Story" and "Beat It?" Ooh, I can just imagine the dance off. Tomorrow. Official thread is at the top of PHT. -
Zyrtec and Flonase seem to get the job done for me.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 08:32 AM) Wow does Iowa suck so bad that even people with nothing don't want to go there? Shove it.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 12:34 AM) I hate to add fuel to the fire here, but... The closest general stat there probably is when considering a catcher's calling ability is his CERA...and even that can be a horrible stat to use. Jamie Burke's CERA was in the mid 3's last year, while Ben Davis's was in the mid 4's-5's. That doesn't mean Burke is that much better of a game-caller, it means Burke was catching Mark Buehrle, while Davis was catching everyone else. The White Sox pitching staff is probably more talented than the Red Sox pitching staff, and is probably better up and down...but you're going to have a hard time convincing me that a starting catcher with a 5.05 CERA and a career 4.14 CERA(having caught the likes of Pedro for however many years, along with Lowe in his great year, and probably others who are not coming to mind right now) is a better game caller than a starting catcher with a 3.73 CERA and a career 4.17 CERA, constantly catching young pitchers and slightly above average pitchers. At the very worst, I'd say they are about the same, but I personally feel AJP is the better game caller...I've felt that all along, but I just thought he was an assclown when he was with Minnesota. Anyways, congrats AJ on the baby. It seems like the CERA would be of better use if taken against the pitchers ERA. Say AJ's CERA with MB is 2.57 (hypothetically) and since MB's ERA is 3, you could say that AJ's CERA total is .43, or a .43 effect on the ERA. Hypothetically, of course.

That was quite a jump from the last I heard.
