Yep - and I still think they are targeting and bringing in a starting pitcher better than Castillo.

I’ve talked with MLB catchers who have been traded multiple times at the deadline and their sentiment to getting onboard with a new staff is that it roughly takes a couple of days. The production from our catchers being some of the worst in MLB history - I am SURE their interest in getting a catcher is very very real… as it should be.

And Jose took some time in the year he was acquired to put it together under Cooper until he became a pivotal piece of the 2005 championship. I could see Castillo having shades of that path with a shorter runway / quicker turn around possible since he isn’t NEARLY as much of a project.

Targeting top of the line starters or elite bullpen arms with control in the trade market is EXACTLY how they have to operate if ownership isn’t willing to buy those assets in free agency yet. I don’t understand your point.

I think they’re banking on tweeting Castillo and getting him back to number 2 form for this year and next whereas his contract looks like a deal.
