QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ May 6, 2016 -> 08:28 PM) We really buttered 'em up in the first. Good, solid win. Latos was off with his control but a win is a win. The defense was amazing and the offense did much better with runners on. Basically, did what we're supposed to do to some cellar-dwelling chumps like Minneapolis. BTW, I really wanted to see Lawrie homer off May in the 8th after the bushleague HBP....I think we would've seen the greatest bat flip of all time. Same here. It was obvious he wasn't trying to do anything but hit a bomb.

I'm still pissed

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ May 6, 2016 -> 08:02 PM) You absolutely have to bean someone if the game it out of reach tomorrow. Hell, I'd do it tonight. He could have broke his ribs! That was bulls***! The look on his f***ing face too. s*** - if Jose wasn't such a good guy - he would have charged and done the anti-Robin/Ryan. Meh Carol ain't hittin anyone.
-
Anyone think that they'll throw at someone this inning? I thought the game was over - lol Running in like 2 hours sleep.
-
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ May 6, 2016 -> 07:57 PM) The ribs. Not the f***ing head I wasn't serious - just exaggerating while being pissed.
-
I don't think they'll have Sale do it - it'll come from the pen when they're up 10 - 0. Hope this fires up the team more - I'd love to be a fly on Lawries locker tonight when the games over.
-
Time to hit Mauer in the head tomorrow, Jones.

Robins face was hysterical

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 6, 2016 -> 07:40 PM) I'm beating a dead horse, but Jason sometimes would be better served just calling it straight. He's talented enough to do it no reason to lay it on so thick. That was one example that contradict a supportive statement I had just made in the other thread. Lol. He was so emphatic. I still like his enthusiasm - stumbling like that is understandable. Maybe it's familiar for me to - my dad has the same humor and I just shake my head and think, "you're so stupid, dad" But I love it. What the f*** is wrong with me?
-
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 6, 2016 -> 07:37 PM) lmao why was he looking up? Looking for his car keys supposedly.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 6, 2016 -> 05:55 PM) He's having a very rough night. Stone even made fun of him for a terrible pun. They're corny, nerdy, and all sorts of dry wit. I - being a nerd - enjoy it.
-
Yea - I don't trust the negative zone ratings on Jackson one bit.

QUOTE (gosoxgo2005 @ May 6, 2016 -> 11:08 AM) I agree. He'll be a long time 3 with a couple of years where he's a 2. John Garland-type IMO sure as hell hope he turns out better than that! if your prediction does come to pass, Nola easily beats that out.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 5, 2016 -> 03:01 PM) You're a dedicated fan if I've ever seen one. Smoking hot cheerleaders for professional sports teams are overrated, anyhow.

QUOTE (SoCalSox @ May 5, 2016 -> 01:42 PM) Am I the only one a bit butthurt today that they took the L last night? I know it's a long season (162 games to be exact) but after such a strong start, I'm not used to seeing them lose. It hit me with some blues as well. Cared more about losing the game than breaking up with my lady.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 5, 2016 -> 12:37 PM) You are comparing a guy who is probably a 55-60 on the 80 scale now, and that is probably as high as he is going to get. Rodon probably has the same grade now, maybe a notch lower at most, with a 75-80 ceiling. Rodon did get to the majors quicker than Nola, and didn't have as much time to learn in the minors. Rodon's next start will be his 30th in the majors. Nola is at 20 Groovy. That's better explained than just stating, "remember Rodon could easily still be in the minors as one of the games best prospects." Surprising that Nola has a 121 ERA+ in 117 IP and Rodon, a 99 in 170 IP. It doesn't seem likely that two extra months in the minors for Nola gave him the edge in producing better results in their respective MLB beginnings. In this respect, I still think it's an apples to apples comparison. Looks to me that Nola's command and consistency with his out pitch have indeed led to an easier transition. The conclusion everyone including yourself has come to is that Rodon will jump above Nola once his slider and command become more consistent. Edit: Let's just all hope we see that stuff come for him soon.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 5, 2016 -> 12:29 PM) There isn't a GM out there who would take Nola over Rodon, even knowing what they know today. Let's not get crazy. Remember, Rodon could easily still be in the minors as one of the top prospects in the game. Not so sure I agree with your logic here - as we're comparing apples to apples. Both pitchers were drafted the same year and both could be top prospects in the minors still.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ May 4, 2016 -> 04:20 PM) Look at the Mariners. Prior GM adds Cano and Cruz and do nothing. New GM works around the edges, fixes the defense and pen, and they're good again. San Diego last year acquired all sorts of downside veterans, cleaning out the farm in the process. Board favs like Kimbrall, Kemp...can't go wrong. Well, they stunk. Boston added Panda and Ramirez and they blew. Sat one, put the other at first, and used young players, and they contend again. They added Price, and he's stunk. The Sox this year...the big differences are Lawrie and Jackson - fixing the defense and adding some incremental offensive improvement. And yet the lust to trade everything for the "star" goes on unabated. You're cherry picking in order to support your logic. It works both ways and there are countless examples of "star" players being added to a team which played major divideds... Most recent example, the Mets and Cespedes. Another reason for your logic, I suspect... Is an unconscious attempt to distract from your flawed Frazier / Thompson assertions. Call me when you'd like an appointment. Signed, Carl Jung

QUOTE (GreenSox @ May 4, 2016 -> 02:33 PM) ... Frazier... But as of now, Trayce is out-hitting him. In what universe?
-
QUOTE (GreenSox @ May 4, 2016 -> 02:07 PM) they need someone who can get on base. Good point - why not someone who gets on base at a high clip and has power. If we're going for it... Go for it. Put Lawrie in the two hole and find a LH stud to sandwich between Abreu and Frazier.

5/4 Game thread: Boston, 7:10pm, WPWR/ESPN

QUOTE (chw42 @ May 4, 2016 -> 12:03 PM) Only problem is that his defense in center has been subpar, according to DRS and UZR. Not sure what I've been missing as AJax hasn't had any issues according to the eye test subjected by yours truly. Any idea why the metrics aren't high on him? -
QUOTE (chw42 @ May 4, 2016 -> 11:29 AM) Nola was the most ML ready pitcher in that draft. But his stuff isn't nearly as electric as Rodon's. Nola's control has been absolutely insane this year though (only 6 walks in almost 40 innings). His control reminds me of Buehrle. On MLB Networl today they also compared his arm angle to Sale. Very interesting pitcher. I too however am more than please that we have our own young stud in Rodon.
-
QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ May 4, 2016 -> 10:38 AM) I think there is little doubt Nola will finish 2016 the better pitcher. Rodon still has a lot of work to do to even scratch his ceiling, whereas Nola seems have been ready for MLB batters from day 1. Remember this being the pro and con side for each pitcher leading up to draft day. Personally I think Rodon will start to heat up as we see Latos fall. Pretty amazing what our pitching staff has done without Rodon firing and with the whole Danks downfall. Nola has impressed more than I had anticipated. Dudes gonna be a stud.
-
I know we don't have much sample size to go off but wanted to bring this up... When the 2014 draft was cooking, speculation and insider comments stated the Sox wanted Nola if Rodon went before us. There was even some who thought we would take Nola even with Rodon still available. Who do you think will have the better career? I'm not suggesting we made the wrong choice or the right choice - just bringing up the topic for discussion.
