  1. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 26, 2014 -> 07:32 PM) Not sure if this was posted or not but this is an interesting Merkin tweet that RV said, Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin 2h Under the radar comment from Ventura at end of SoxFest: How the roster looks today is not necessarily how it will look at the end of ST Not surprised at all... A lot can happen in 5 weeks, especially since a lot of the market was caught in a two week tanaka cog.
  2. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jan 26, 2014 -> 02:48 PM) It isn't 'the fans' it's a small collection of dumb meatheads who 1) don't understand baseball 2) failed to behave with the bare minimum of basic decency, forget about words like 'classy' or 'classless'. These are simply a small collection of sucky people, not 'the fans'. +1
  3. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 26, 2014 -> 11:32 AM) I think the treatment of Dunn by the fans is frustration that he's still on the team and this is the way to get that message to management. Sox management must have thought there wasn't a problem otherwise he wouldn't be at the event. The point here is two fold in my eyes... One - it's sad that of all things to focus on and discuss, this came up and is getting attention. Two... One bad apple is not reflective of a culture. Anyone displaying this type of disrespect should get a refund, be shown the door, and put on a black list for Soxfest. Freedom of speech is a right as is freedom to impose restrictions within an organization.
  4. QUOTE (Paulstar @ Jan 25, 2014 -> 04:36 PM) I don't know where you come off trying to put words in my mouth. Where's that ignore button at again? We may not be able to put words into people's mouth but I sure can silence some. Edit: Found it. Blasted.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 25, 2014 -> 11:14 AM) Wait, let's do whatever is popular in the moment. Let's add Pujols, Greinke and Hamilton. Ooops, wait, let's develop our farm system. Oops, let's sign Tanaka and compete this season. Oops, let's sign Jimenez/Santana and trade Sale or Quintana so we can compete at some point in the future (or trade them), except our minor league system sucks still so we should give up our 2nd round pick even though our last six have all been pretty decent selections and won't cost the franchise $40-50 million, which will impede our ability to sign future Tanakas/Abreu's. Let's trade for BJ Upton while we're at it. Naw, let's just clone me 25 times and have the entire roster be made up of me's. I wouldn't mind taking home about 100M per season.
  6. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 24, 2014 -> 10:40 PM) Wouldn't be surprised if it's Yasmani Grandal after Hedges reaches the ML. Sox supposedly loved him when he came out. I do remember the 2010 draft when the reds took Grandal - a lot speculated that he was our target in that round before he was grabbed. Being that it "forced" us into Sale - we win!
  7. Homer Bailey has to be a target next season if the reds don't extend him. On the starting catcher front I'm not seeing much next year as well... We're likely to get our catcher via trade IMO.
  8. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 06:14 PM) How 'bout it especially after he agent takes his ~10+% 4.5%
  9. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 04:50 PM) Keith Law was on Waddle and Silvy yesterday and was EXTREMELY complimentary of Rick Hahn and what the Sox have done since July's trade deadline. Surprises await still.
  10. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 06:47 AM) Or he's going to rape face. That's always fun
  11. QUOTE (Paulstar @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 03:08 PM) Am I the only one who thinks Andre Rienzo has potential to be a really solid starter in this league, maybe even as good as a no 3. In my eyes he's a fringe long man / 5th starter.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 12:55 PM) Who? And for how much? I'll throw 200 innings for a cool million, post taxes... Of course. Excuse me, I've gotta get some ice on my money maker.
  13. Wait a minute, the cubs didn't sign him??? But but but.... They said they wouldn't be outbid!!!!
  14. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 22, 2014 -> 07:01 PM) No Peavy or Santiago. I'm confident in this organization to furnish replacements for what was a mediocre season by Peavy and a year with Santiago that should not be a guaranteed improvement for the Halo's. They're both not guarantees to give much above replacement level.
  15. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jan 22, 2014 -> 03:04 PM) I would say this is the best bet. Sounds like the Sox aren't going after FA starting pitching and they do a good job of drafting and developing young pitching talent so it makes the most sense. Not to mention that whole Kershaw and Tanaka big-ass contract fest we just witnessed. Pitching is at a premium like never before and we're entering into a new era of the dead ball IMO. Pitching, pitching, and more pitching. Our ability to nab arms and meld them into useful contributors will allow us to right this ship before many other rebuilding clubs.

    First spring training game is Feb. 28th against the dodgers at 2:05 CST
  17. Say hello to drafting a starter at number three in this years draft.
  18. Yea. Called that all along.
  19. More meaningless speculation here... But really we all should be hoping NOT to hear anything. If the Sox get their man, my thought is that they'd like to keep a tight wrap on things and blow it out of the bag exactly at 4pm Friday when opening Soxfest. Boobes.
  20. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 06:12 PM) I think it worked... and I may or may not be the poster in question.. maybe. You should know by now that I'm rarely serious I knew it was you right away dude. Same twitter handle as your Soxtalk name, come on
  21. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 06:06 PM) https://twitter.com/titomb345/status/425811286509637632 Confirmed: Tanaka to the Sox! It's on twitter, it's gotta be true. (JKing OBVIOUSLY!) Who is this twitter poster? Seems like some bum making up things again in an attempt to coax us into an emotionally charged debate. f***ING HELL s*** f*** f*** f*** s***!
  22. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 05:57 PM) Weren't we supposed to hear something by now? Shouldn't he have finished breakfast? You tell me Jose. I expected a 6:00am CST announcement from your post last night. Tisk tack, wiggity wack.
  23. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 02:30 PM) Let's say the Sox have this option: 3-way trade: Team A trades: $100M cash Team A receives: 4 Sox prospects Sox trade: 4 prospects Sox receive: 6 years of Tanaka at an average salary that is comparable to a 6-year arbitration salary Rakuten Golden Eagles trade: 6 years of Tanaka at an average salary that is comparable to a 6-year arbitration salary Rakuten Golden Eagles receive: $100M cash Do the Sox make that deal? I think it's very possible they do. A Castro deal would be the same idea as above. You're still getting something that you think is going to help long-term. $$$$ and payroll space is one type of resource, prospects are another. If you can use both however then that is preferable since you don't go too far into one extreme or the other, i.e. tons of bad contracts and little wiggle room or a barren farm system. WTF are you talking about man? Pass me the crack pipe please
  24. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 03:54 PM) Hanh Quotes Thanks raBBit. Good on ya.
  25. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 03:36 PM) Hinted that he only targeted 1 catcher in free agency, and it was McCann I nailed Hanh's "Plan A" then. Called for Abreu, McCann, and Tanaka.
