QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 19, 2014 -> 01:29 PM) MASAHIRO TANAKA Sorry Jose. This thread has effectively been buried with layers of pony sparkle magic. You are all free of course to keep saying the same thing repeatedly until he signs in 4 days. Since my little pony didn't catch on... Anyone else have any suggestions? Japanese anime?

Rosenthal: Tanaka to Yankees
QUOTE (Baron @ Jan 19, 2014 -> 01:16 PM) Well....this conversation once more got weird. I know I can't believe the Yankees offered tanaka a deal on par with the dodgers. Jesus. What is this world coming to? Things like this don't happen in the pony kingdom of magic. In fact, the Yankees where all banished by the pixie dust princess in 1694.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 19, 2014 -> 01:11 PM) I never called you a homosexual To be politically correct, it is not "a homosexual" it is "the homosexual". Bronies always get pegged as the homosexuals. It is not fair and should not be tolerated in the sparkle kingdom of pink magic.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 19, 2014 -> 01:03 PM) It doesn't surprise me that you are a Brony Just because they featured me in a netflix documentary wearing a sparkling pink glitter pony jammy set doesn't mean I'm the homosexual. It's just honestly the best topic ever explored - showing the world a greater path to unification and friendship. This board should really consider ditching all interest in the white sox and becoming a my little pony gathering spot of magic. Anyone want to cuddle?

All of this talk is a waste of time. I'm telling you guys... My Little Pony!!! The best film and series OF ALL TIME!!! That is what we should be discussing!! "The show follows a studious unicorn pony named Twilight Sparkle as her mentor Princess Celestia guides her to learn about friendship in the town of Ponyville." It's BRILLIANT!!!!

QUOTE (Lillian @ Jan 18, 2014 -> 03:55 AM) Thanks for the clarification. Epstein was probably just lucky. I doubt that he knew it wouldn't translate as bad as it sounds in English. "Commodity" certainly isn't the best English word to use, if the intention is to show respect. Most Americans wouldn't think anything of it, but I understand that Japanese culture is quite different. Oh man, we're really all itching for some action. It's not like Epstein said, " He's a valued vagina..." I just watched the videos on chisox.com from the hitting camp. That was more exciting than the past few days here playing the refresh game. Highly recommended.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 17, 2014 -> 01:32 PM) No. I'd go 6-7 years at $20 mill with a player opt out option after 4 years. There's only a 5M AAV difference there. IMO - Give him the extra 5, throw in the opt out clause and he's ours for sure. Our payroll this year would then return to around 112M and with Dunn off the books next year, we're not handcuffed in any way by this hypothetical Tanaka signing. Would I rather have 5 years at 20M? Sure! I just think if we want him we'll have to pony up big time. Of course - this is all meaningless speculation - just like much of what is out there at the moment. Things shall be getting interesting soon

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 17, 2014 -> 01:26 PM) I'm beginning to expect Tanaka to sign with the White Sox. Would you be ok with 175/7? If that's what it took - I'm in. Thankfully I'm not a GM - as you can see - blowing my wad is ummm... Likely to happen.

QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jan 17, 2014 -> 01:24 PM) MLB network saying Jon heyman reporting both Chicago teams are front runners for tanaka. Just said on MLB network Say hello to the latest Casey Close leak who is attempting to drive LA/NY bids higher. Really, I'm just attempting to temper my expectations. If Tanaka is signed - I'll bring my wife and new born to Chicago for 7 home games in 2014. I'd be ecstatic.

Rosenthal: Tanaka to Yankees
QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jan 17, 2014 -> 01:17 PM) MASAHIRO TANAKA: This week, the Cubs were the team making the most news in the chase to land the right-hander who went 24-0 with a 1.27 ERA for the Rakuten Golden Eagles in Japan last year, because the Cubs were the team that met with Tanaka, which meant that the Cubs were the team that could project optimism, both on the record, and through sources. Don't go ordering that jersey just yet, though. As Gordon Wittenmyer wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times, "breathless national reports via Twitter and blogs Thursday overshot the Cubs’ likelihood of hanging with the big-spending favorites in New York and Los Angeles in the process, especially when the Dodgers reminded the world of their willingness to spend by giving ace Clayton Kershaw a record-setting contract extension this week — after dealing with the same agent representing Tanaka." Tanaka makes a ton of sense for the Cubs, as he does for pretty much every team in baseball — as evidenced by the Dodgers' drive to add Tanaka to a rotation that already includes Kershaw, Zack Greinke, Hyun-Jin Ryu, and Dan Haren, with Josh Beckett and Chad Billingsley recovering from injuries. Maybe the Cubs really impressed Tanaka with talk of how they are working with a foundation of prospects to become contenders very soon. It's probably best, though, not to pretend like Tanaka is going to choose his team before he has completed his due diligence. We'll know next week, when the deadline comes for Tanaka to sign and for the team winning his services to pay the $20 million posting fee to Rakuten. Anything before that is guesswork. http://www.sportingnews.com/mlb/story/2014...za-stephen-drew So you're telling me he'll be an Astro by tomorrow?
