like it or not, maggs will get 5/70 somewhere else, may it be the spankes or san diego or boston... maggs is a hot item to have on a ball club and a lot of teams would be happy to have him at 5/70... val and tejada set the bar that high and maggs knows that he can get that level of contract our office knows that too and had been slowly upping their offer, they know that he will stay for 5/70 but they wanna see 3 things a) is he worth it to the sox and B: will he settle for less and c) could that 70 mill be better spent over the next 3-5 years? they seemed to have done the same with Garcia the first reported deal with him was 3/24 he got 3/27 the office probably would have had no problem going as high as 3/33 tops for garcia, but started low and setteled in the middle, thats the name of the game in contract neg. if the three questions above are anwsered in maggs favor, then he will be a white sox RF'der for life and will get 5/70 with no clause and no defered money a) he is worth it to the sox (16 - 18 record without him has shown this true already) B: looks like this statement by maggs tells them, nope, he's playin hardball and c) this is the big question mark.... if we could get 2 starting pitchers in the off season to the tune of something like garcia got 3/30 each.... thats 60 mil... 10 mil less then we would give maggs... and we would have... burley garcia top of the line starter for 3/30 top of the line starter for 3/30 #2 and garland to round it off i hope one of the two happens
