QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Nov 23, 2010 -> 09:30 AM) Seven Republican appointed federal judges sent the Senate a letter begging them to stop obstructing Obama's judicial nominations because its literally paralyzing the judicial system. http://legaltimes.typepad.com/files/111510...9th-circuit.pdf

Tea Party Libertarians complaining of co-opting
lostfan replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 23, 2010 -> 09:30 AM) Actually I am speaking for an entire county's movement. Both events I went to, no one talked about race, or religion, or sex. It was all about money. Okay, change the last word to "your county's movement" and my point still stands. I read about the Tea Party movement and talked to a bunch of different people about it (before I started getting bored with it, and before it started getting stupid and jumping the shark in August/September 2009). Most of their definitions of "Tea Party" were something different. This is why you had Scott Brown coyly riding that wave to win his election, people jumping up and down, then getting pissed off and calling him a traitor. -
Tea Party Libertarians complaining of co-opting

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 23, 2010 -> 09:27 AM) 1 is true. 2 is only kinda true. It became more sexy as a story for the media because they now got to demonize the right wing that they love going after so much. We got to hear all of the stories about the racism and everything else that makes for big attention. 3. isn't true at all. Libertarians have never cared about selling out to get victories. If they really felt that way, they would be in one of the major parties already. I can tell you for a fact the early tea party movement excited people because it encapsulated the small government movement without being polluted by all of the social hang ups that en company the closest economic party to the Libertarians. I know I will probably get corrected here, but I am speaking as probably the only person on Soxtalk who actually worked with a person who founded a Tea Party movement at a county level, and as someone who attended and spoke at one of these early rallies. But you're talking about millions of people across the country over a sustained period of time, not just yourself. Nothing in politics is that uniform. -

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 23, 2010 -> 09:25 AM) The Libertarian crowd is really not a reliable GOP vote - They are independents and in fact, the ones I know who really are Libertarians, often voted 3rd party or even Dem a lot in the past decade because the GOP abandoned fiscal discipline. There's Libertarians and then there's people who call themselves Libertarians. The first number is a lot smaller than the second. -

This sounds about right and it's one of the reasons you had so much "the Tea Party is ____" from the left, who are more or less describing what they can see, and why you have people who self-identify with the Tea Party replying with "no, you guys are way off and you don't understand what we're about, 'we' are not interested in half those things you said, we're only concerned with the budget" etc. -
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 22, 2010 -> 11:26 AM) Pitchfork gives Kanye's new album a rare 10.0 The tracks on this album are loooong as f***.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 22, 2010 -> 10:12 PM) They got it. Seriously, this is hilarious, I'm getting so much joy watching these assholes lose. Keeping it 100... I love watching the Heat lose games. This is some awesome poetic justice. Keep this up for the rest of the season, boys!

Miami is about to lose to the Pacers. Wade only has 3-4-5 in 37+ minutes. 1-13 from the field. 0-4 from 3 point range. 1-5 FT. 5 turnovers. You can probably safely pin this loss on him.

My friend wrote a blog on the VY situation: http://www.glenngamble.com/2010/11/vince-young-meltdown.html (I can't tell how thick is sarcasm is)

Saw someone posted this on Facebook: Here's a solution to all the controversy over scanners at the airports all we need is to develop a booth that you can step into that will not X-ray you, but will detonate any explosive device you may have hidden on or in your body. The explosion will be contained within the sealed booth. This would be a win-win for everyone. There would be no racial profiling and the device would eliminate long and expensive trials "Attention passengers, we now have a seat open on Flight ___"

How many times has Young been benched, forgotten about, and then re-anointed the starter?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 21, 2010 -> 01:59 PM) The thing that drives me crazy about Danks isn't how many games he doesn't have stuff, it is how many games his mechanics go to crap. He seems to have long stretches where he can't finish on the change and leaves it up. This. I guess statistically, it doesn't happen as often as I thought it did.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 21, 2010 -> 01:55 PM) It feels dirty to root for Farve and Minny. it really does. ugh.

QUOTE (3E8 @ Nov 21, 2010 -> 01:37 PM) Last season, Danks averaged 6.7 innings per start, which placed him 6th best out of 63 qualified pitchers in the AL. The only AL pitchers more "efficient" were Lee, King Felix, Sabathia, Pavano, and Verlander. It hasn't been an issue for Danks the past two seasons really. http://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/...er_pitching::30 Me, pwned I guess. But it seems like there's only maybe one thing holding him out of the "elite" category from the "very good" category (low threes instead of high threes). I'm not sure how exactly to describe it.
-
The main thing holding Danks back from being a legit ace is his efficiency IMO. He's better about it than he was when he first came to the majors, but still you look at his pitch count, it's around 80 and it's still the 4th inning. He'll usually make it to 6 innings but not as often past that as you'd like, and he leaves himself in a position where he needs the bullpen to hold it for him, or just hope the offense had built enough of a lead that it's never given up in the last 3 innings. If he was more in control of his own fate at the end of games more we'd be talking about one of the best LHP in the game.

I'm like 2K5, I'm not into reading politicians' memoirs, even the ones I like. However there's a couple of exceptions - Al Franken's books (Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them and The Truth With Jokes) because he's hilarious and he wrote those before he became a senator, and Robert Wexler's Fire Breathing Liberal because it's actually pretty educational, and it's more "what it's like being a Democratic Congressman" than it is a polemic.

QUOTE (joeynach @ Nov 21, 2010 -> 12:25 AM) Yeah ozzie never noticed this apparently. I remember time and time again Alexi would lead off with a double, then Ozzie would have beckham bunt him over to 3B to bring up the vaunted Juan Pierre to hit with a runner on 3rd and 1 out. As if Pierre was a big deep play ball threat to manufacture a sac fly RBI there. I was like im WTF is going on here, Pierre can hardly hit the ball to the outfield, let alone deep like the warning track. The only way it worked out is if Pierre somehow got a base hit or made ozzie look like a genius if he somehow got an infield hit or they pulled off a squeeze. Other than that Im like what is going on here, who on earth would sacrifice hitters with power to let Pierre hit with a runner on 3rd base an 1 out. MAKES ZERO SENSE! I remember this used to INFURIATE me during the season. Those games I'd wonder was Ozzie deliberately trying to piss everyone off?

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 20, 2010 -> 12:59 AM) Except Boozer is a much better player than Taj. With them splitting time and occasionally on the court together the Bulls are a MUCH stronger team. Well obviously. I just feel really good about Taj now. He's come a long way pretty fast.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 19, 2010 -> 09:53 AM) I'm very lucky in this regard. I pay $60/month for full family PPO through BCBS. Another $8/month for combined dental and vision. That is awesome. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 20, 2010 -> 01:10 AM) 0.0 dollars. Company pays for our insurance. Aetna. That is even more awesome.

Did you really go back to a post from over a month ago just now? Eh the point of that post wasn't "5 seconds" it was that it doesn't matter how long Cutler is holding onto the ball if he's got a guy in his face on almost every play when he hasn't even finished his drop. "5 seconds" was supposed to be whatever that amount of time is.

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Nov 20, 2010 -> 12:29 AM) Taj Gibson with a monster game...big win for da Bullies The only thing that's going to suck about Boozer coming back is that it's going to cut into Taj's playing time. Kid is a beast, very underrated.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 19, 2010 -> 05:06 PM) MSNBC suspends Joe Scarborough for undisclosed campaign contributions over the years. Why are they dicking around? Who really cares what Joe Scarborough does? It's pretty obvious he's a Republican, hell, he was a Congressman. What does MSNBC think they're trying to accomplish? My guess is to ease the PR backlash from the Olbermann thing.
