Yankees to offer 3 years $45 million to Jeter
lostfan replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Diamond Club
Yeah, if I made $10 million a year, New York City's cost of living wouldn't faze me a bit. Hell, I would just live off investment income. -
Because I'm bored atm I'll just point out a couple of obvious things: 1) The military and national defense is run by the federal government. It specifically says so in that there Constertushin thingamajig I always hear people talking about but who apparently haven't actually read it. If North Korea decides to launch ballistic (especially nuclear) missiles at Alaska, that's got nothing to do with the governor of Alaska. Nobody's activating the Alaska National Guard to stop missiles from North Korea after they're launched. 2) Someone needs to teach them about ICBMs and how they work. If Russia (or the "former Soviet Union" if you insist) figures one day it wants to commit national suicide and initiate a nuclear attack of any size against us (they won't) everyone is f***ed anyway so this would be irrelevant. And we especially wouldn't be counting on the governor of Alaska's leadership. Come on now. "A nuclear war cannot be won and must never be fought." -Ronald Reagan 3) Someone should point out she quit that job because her feelings were being hurt.

They're murder rates. So compare California to England (California about 40m, England about 60m) and you probably get mostly the same result. Better yet compare Illinois to France (IL 12m to France's 65m) and it still holds. Matter of fact if size and/or population is the issue just count all of western Europe vs. the United States... same thing Yeah there are countries with higher violent crime rates (Mexico, Brazil etc.) but not among the countries that are advanced as us.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 25, 2010 -> 09:54 AM) Granted I only watch a Bulls game on rare occasion but it always seems like Rose misses very key shots late in the 4th quarter of games...at least whenever I happen to watch. Rose turns it up a notch in the 4th quarter and carries the team on his back at times.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 25, 2010 -> 12:46 AM) Rose+Noah=W If I was LeBron I'd be kicking my own ass right now (if I cared about winning). He really dropped the f***ing ball on this one. This is a first place team, borderline championship contender WITHOUT him.
-
How the hell did the Bulls win this game?
-
Miami has folded against basically every team they've played that's a legit contender come spring. If they keep playing like this they're definitely f***ed come playoff time. The Bulls are down 12 at the half, more respectable than it looked in the second quarter.
-
The Bulls look pathetic right now.

Horses*** backcourt defense killing this team in this game

Cliff Lee offered 6 years/$140 million by Yanks

For some reason when I read this I was thinking Derrek Lee and I was really giving this thread the side eye. -
I just kinda had a lightbulb go off and I wonder how much it'd cost to install a hot tub and/or a wet bar in my basement in place of the second kitchen I hardly ever use?

The NBA having a lockout doesn't necessarily mean they're going to miss games.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 23, 2010 -> 05:21 PM) According to the Heritage foundation, if you include every potential cost, assume that people who are here and who are already 67 take OASDI, that there are no regulations regarding how they qualify for government assistance, about $35 billion/year. Unlike ballooning OASDI costs due to the baby boom however, that number should stay pretty close to the rate of inflation, because there isn't a retirement baby boom coming in that population. If we're going to be fully rigorous about the math though, then we need to start taking into account the $20 billion+ currently being spent on enforcement along the southern border, the extra revenue those workers would bring through taxation, and the economic stimulus that would come about by allowing that population to suddenly declare that it exists economically. Frankly, at this point, the costs and benefits that people have estimated, making reasonable assumptions, are somewhere within the margin of error of each other. Projected over 20 years, those margins of error become things like "$1 trillion costs!" or "$2 trillion saved!" Just wanted to point out Balta citing a right-wing hack tank. That is all -
I was going to be so pissed if they gave the AL Cy Young to Sabathia over Hernandez.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 23, 2010 -> 11:04 AM) Passing offense has been the least of the Broncos' worries... That wasn't the point. McDaniels tried to go behind Cutler's back to trade him for Matt Cassel because McDaniels wanted to run his own system. Which is fine, but Broncos fans all retroactively took McDaniels's side (blaming all of that on Cutler because I guess it was easy) and insisted he knew what he was doing with the personnel decisions. Then he's made a whole series of stupid decisions that I won't list all of here, but he fired Nolan (the real reason the Broncos started off the season 6-0 last year), traded away Hillis for Brady Quinn and then traded up to draft Tebow anyway, etc. That team is a laughingstock and they have the same record as the Vikings, I think. It's pretty funny the lengths Bronco homers go to defend and deflect blame though. They say silly things like the offensive line is terrible... lol come on now.
-
What's it going to take for McDaniels to get fired? I think they are still paying Shanahan so I don't see it happening even if they really need to. Forcing Cutler out was one of a whole bunch of s***ty moves that would follow.

80% of the American public also thinks Obama raised taxes in 2010. They don't understand complicated ideas. If self-identified Tea Party supporters don't like how it sounds when they hear other people define the movement, they should try having left of center political views and hearing Tea Partiers define even the simplest left-wing ideology. It varies between hilarious, annoying, and sad. -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 23, 2010 -> 10:04 AM) I agreed with him yes, and added my opinion as to the general perception of tea party members. Okay then I suppose (but I edited my first post) -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 23, 2010 -> 10:01 AM) Did I quote your post? His post was a response to mine and you piggybacked off what he said. I'm just starting to get tired of getting lumped into the dismissals like that (not just here, on Slate or wherever else I go). Like I'm not qualified to understand things or interpret things on my own because I don't agree with the ideology. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 23, 2010 -> 09:43 AM) What, you think that'll make any difference? It's more likely to get those judges impeached than anything else. Not really, I just like other than Dems/liberals people calling out the Senate Republicans for what they're actually doing.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 23, 2010 -> 09:58 AM) I attended three rallies and had the same experience. But people are going to believe what the media tells them, so ya know, racist, redneck, bush-supporting homophobs = all tea party people. This is a pretty dumbass response if it's supposed to be going with what I posted. -
The Cavs would be in first place if LeBron was still there. Hell, for that matter he would've been in first place in Chicago, if he had come to an actual team.
