    Remember when...?

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 6, 2010 -> 12:32 PM) Celozzi Etelson chevrolet in elmhurst at york and roosevelt road. Where you always save more money. I never lived out west, so a couple of years ago I was out there visiting a friend and I was driving on York and came up to Roosevelt. I'm thinking "why does that sound so familiar?" then the light bulb went off, but that dealership is gone now. I was all disappointed.
  4. I'd say there are enough people that live in major cities that it doesn't matter how rural people are affected.
  5. Yeah, calling Olsen a disappointment relative to what he's capable of is fair, but calling him a bust is pretty harsh.
  6. Yeah but that's like an exceptionally rare occurrence. Blowing up trains, relatively speaking, is orders of magnitude easier and that's part of the psychological damage it does.
  7. That's also one of the reasons Cutler had so many red zone INTs, the fact that Olsen was the first and last option.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 6, 2010 -> 07:21 PM) I'm not saying it wouldn't be a big deal, but the scare factor nationally wouldn't be the same as blowing up a plane. Way more people fly than take a train. Well, I think that's still true in Europe though, blowing up a plane in general is more impressive (for lack of a better word) than blowing up a train.
  9. You know, I parked in one of these things not too long ago (by the Giordano's on 53rd in Hyde Park) and the prices weren't all that bad like I thought they were going to be. It was like 2 dollars for 2 hours, something like that, and being able to use my credit card instead of digging for coins was really convenient.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 6, 2010 -> 01:41 PM) If more and more people start to depend on rail in this country, that is where the terror attacks will shift. This is a bad pun, but very apt. They want the most bang for their buck in a terror attack. In the rest of the world, many attacks have been on rail lines. Since the US doesn't use it as much, there isn't as much reason to attack it. It doesn't have the same level of fear outside of a few metro areas in the US. I see the point you're making and it's valid but I don't think I buy your reasoning. If someone left a bomb on a Red Line train and blew it up and killed a couple hundred people in a downtown station, don't you think that'd still be a pretty big deal? Like, a really, really big deal?

    DIRECTV

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jan 3, 2010 -> 10:37 AM) Another thing that's good about DirecTV is that the monthly price is stable and doesn't increase incrementally like cable. I'm only paying a few bucks more than I was two and a half years ago. Also, they add channels all the time and don't charge extra. This doesn't really matter, though. There's a new round of price wars coming as the networks start demanding more money to be carried and they start looking for sources of revenue outside of advertising (digital distribution, etc.) to stay relevant. I doubt DirecTV is immune to this, they're going to pass their costs along to the consumer like anyone else would. Also, something I never really liked but it's just the nature of the beast... ESPN is, by far, the most expensive channel, most of the high-rated ones are like 50 cents to carry, ESPN is like $4.50. I almost never watch ESPN though because they're shallow and it sucks, but I have to pay for it anyway. I remember when the NFL got into it with Comcast a few years ago, it seemed like nobody wanted to be on Comcast's side because everyone hates Comcast, but the NFL basically wanted to become another expensive network to carry, but have Comcast take the hit for it (i.e., just have everyone raise their rates). Screw all that.
  12. QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Jan 2, 2010 -> 08:28 PM) Buckhead is a rather "ritzy" part of ATL....thus the nice fields. It's also an awesome area to party in.
  13. I think Daley finally started getting to people and he's actually going to struggle to get re-elected this time.
  14. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jan 5, 2010 -> 04:48 PM) You mean like walking the guy thru a door but 'accidently' running him into the wall next to the door? hehehe. Oops! "Watch your head." lol. My team arrested this guy once (I forget why, for spying I think, among other things) and blindfolded him to take him off for some quick interrogation before he was shipped off to a detention facility... we tried to warn him that he was about to come to a couple of stairs but I guess he was nervous or whatever and didn't listen, so he tripped and hit his face on the door frame. That was kind of awesome because I was pretty pissed at the time and wanted to punch him in the face, but couldn't, and it was like some neutral force heard my frustration and gave me an out. lol.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 5, 2010 -> 04:17 PM) Its not? : It is, but Santa Claus's real identity is Jack Bauer and I don't think most Americans are ready to accept that reality.
  16. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 5, 2010 -> 04:17 PM) And way too many people who assume that because the rules of torture have changed subtly, that means no one is ever tortured. Or for that matter, that everyone has the same definition of it. I certainly hope you and bmags aren't thinking that Hollywood silliness is what I had in mind when I asked that question. Look again at the scenario I posed. Not only is it possible, I'd even say its likely. Oh, I was just saying that for the sake of saying it, not talking about you.
  17. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 5, 2010 -> 04:03 PM) i mean i guess it depends if there was a bomb going off and jack bauer was there ohmegods Since those policies by most all sources are said to have been effectively ended since 2003, I would say yes I can speak confidently they were not. There are way too many people that think the s*** on 24 is real.
  18. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jan 5, 2010 -> 03:01 PM) Hell, why lock your car, if someone wants to steal it or what's in it bad enough, they gonna do it anyway. Save the money for the alarm and locks and spend it on something else. Why lock your front door either. If theives want your big screen, they gonna get it anyway. The point is to spend enough to stop the casual assholes, and hopefully most of the committed ones, without breaking the bank. Somewhere there is a 'it costs too much' point, but I don't know where that is. New technology is always gonna cost more at first. So should we stop looking for new ways to stop terrorism? I pretty much agree with this
  19. You know, in the 3 or so years since the Ron Turner firing has been overdue, I thought I'd be happy as s*** when I finally read the headline. I'm kind of meh about it.
  20. I feel like we argue about this at least once a month, it's a requirement to maintain modship here.

    Remember when...?

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 4, 2010 -> 11:51 PM) Yeah, you are right. Originally I put a couple of months, but i changed it. Its been such a long time since I played an NES. Mine was actually in good shape for a while, I had one of those cleaner cartridges for the console and the alcohol swabs for the cartridges. Whenever i rented a game I cleaned the game before I put it in my NES and 9 times out of 10 it was dirty as hell I used to use regular Q-tips and alcohol swabs, rented games or ones from my buddies tended to be filthy. The Q-tip would come out looking dark grey. On a similar note I HATE when I let someone borrow a game and I get it back all scratched up, nothing like the condition I gave it to them in.
  22. Which is a sign that all Democrats DO think the same? Or don't? I don't know what you're saying, unless there is some further meaning to it that I can't see it's kind of a worthless point. There are 300 million people in this country and everybody wants different things so of COURSE there's going to be conflicts, and of course the party's leadership wants to have the strongest odds of passing the laws they want possible. Who wants to have disagreement just for the sake of being able to say they have it? That would be kind of stupid actually. Any person in charge with any kind of sense (i.e. not a Michael Steele) would run their show like that.
  23. Every elected Democrat is exactly the same, so much so that they can't... even agree... on their biggest legislative priority in the past 40-something years when they have a supermajority and solid control of the House?
  24. Yeah I absolutely love our uniforms that we have right now, I wouldn't want them to change just for the sake of changing, I think that's annoying.

    Remember when...?

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jan 4, 2010 -> 10:56 PM) Nope, I don't want to get shot. And, yes. DC really isn't like that anymore.
