Of course there's a double standard, but if we are going to try to paint an equivalency between Reid and Lott (which many have done) well, just no. One guy was talking (clumsily) about race, the other was actually glorifying racist ideas. And the Republicans have really kind of put themselves into that position over the past 40 or so years anyway, you got people doing things like forwarding inappropriate e-mails and instead of admitting it was wrong saying "oh, I didn't realize which account I was using" and so on.

The House is feeling taken for granted lately, they really don't like the Senate and the White House pushing them around on the healthcare legislation.

So the more I read arguments about the Harry Reid dust-up and the more I thought about it the less I cared. Good old-fashioned politics at work, there. Frankly what Reid said isn't even racist, the word "negro" isn't a racist word. Socially outdated and extremely awkward to be used, but Reid is an old man and is old enough to have been around before "black" and "African-American" phased it out. Yes he deserves to be laughed at and criticized for being out of touch but not much more than that, really. Secondly, I have yet to find anyone who can show that what he actually said was factually incorrect, unless they want to suggest that a dark-skinned person who talks like one of Madea's relatives in a Tyler Perry movie could actually get elected president. I don't see black people getting offended because... well... it really wasn't offensive. The ones who are acting offended are mostly white conservatives which I think is hilarious, because isn't that what they always accuse liberals of doing?

Privitization efforts by the City of Chicago
lostfan replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in The Filibuster
Seriously though, like I posted earlier, I fully expected to be sodomized when I paid to park my car based on the reactions to this I've read the past couple of years (obviously since I don't live in Chicago it's not something I see every day). It was nothing like that at all unless it's different downtown where I haven't been yet. -
How could anyone actually think this legislation goes too far in controlling costs... lol... its biggest weakness is it really doesn't do anything at all. It doesn't make prices worse but it doesn't make them better either.

QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 11, 2010 -> 10:32 PM) The GOP gets so much mileage out of activist judges, liberal media, and oh poor me. They have no real power left in this country. The damn press has taken it all away along with motherhood and apple pie. It is an awesome strategy, I wish the dems had thought of it first. Every problem with the party, and any wrong doing by a REP is explained by media bias. It is a beautiful thing. The media has proped up the Dem party for years. I'm not certain why, that has never been explained. Kudos to the GOP. I'm not certain who came up with that strategy but it has been brilliantly used to the point where this generation will argue the point forever. You're pretty much 100% right with this, it's been repeated so many times that it's just blindly accepted as fact any time someone brings it up, and whether it's actually valid or not.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 11, 2010 -> 07:44 PM) Two questions... Are you blacker than Obama, and are you a pimp or prostitute, just for classification? I'm "as black" as Obama (literally, lol), and whether I'm a pimp or prostitute depends on who you ask.

Balta I did want to post that Slate article but I had to wait until I got home, heh.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 11, 2010 -> 07:25 PM) The great part would be hanging out with the pimps and prostitutes! Well you're Facebook friends with me so there's a start

This is what somebody wrote on Facebook Mark McGuire admitted taking steroids.... NEWSFLASH! WE KNEW THAT ALREADY MARK. You should've made something up like... "I was drinking breast milk from a rare and mystical 3 breasted Koala Bear named Roovio and I drank 6 cups per inning!" NOW THAT'S A GOOD STORY instead of coming out with some shid we already knew.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jan 10, 2010 -> 08:47 PM) you mean when Graham got censured? http://www.thestate.com/local/story/1096389.html not even close to the same as Reid commending Obama on "not speaking in a negro dialect" Meh Reid would've been censured if the GOP had 60 seats, but in any case Graham's comment was even more indefensible.

The Optional Defense Bowl in full effect.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 10, 2010 -> 03:23 PM) By soon, you mean "Next week against the Colts"? Well, that post is about to be made irrelevant in a minute, but a 13 point lead in the 4th with 12 minutes to go is by no means insurmountable.

Golden Boy Flacco is going to have to do something... anything... and soon. 2 of 7 for 9 yards, 0 TD 1 INT 0.0 rating.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jan 10, 2010 -> 03:01 PM) That last interception was definitely Brady's fault. Watson got hit as the ball was getting to him and didn't have a chance of making that play. I didn't see the replay on that. Of course Brady has several ones that hit Raven defenders on the hands that got dropped too.
-
Brady is playing like ass but I'm not putting this game on him. Of his 3 picks so far, 1 was because he chucked it up, but 2 were off his WRs hands. The fumble got knocked right out of his hand, I guess he should've felt the pressure coming, but what can you do when it's right in your face?
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 10, 2010 -> 02:06 PM) And all of a sudden the Ravens of the 2q look like the Pats of the 1q. That was jumping the gun a little, the only reason NE has 7 points is because Baltimore didn't challenge for some reason.
-
Was it Graham or DeMint that recently said something equally dumb (probably worse actually)? What do you guys mean "free pass" I didn't recall that getting blown up in the media like you guys say it would be, outside of the political blogs and whatnot where you'd expect it.

The Huffpo parody is spot on

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 7, 2010 -> 09:39 AM) Chris Matthews with his usual crappy performance here, but he makes a useful point...and he includes the phrase "youtube is watching", so I guess i have to post it. He asks him point blank, "Tell me what the Republican party has done for this country in the past 20 years" and gets silence. They did help to balance the budget when Clinton was in office, but I guess you can say that's null since they lost their f***ing minds when their party took the executive branch.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jan 7, 2010 -> 07:37 PM) As I've said in the past, it didn't matter. JFK would be a Republican today. That's how idiotic the rift has gotten. Not really, I mean his whole family's name is synonymous with liberal standard-bearing, is there a single Republican among them? Some of his quotes, they'd put him decisively on the liberal side. I guess you could make a case for how he did foreign policy but that was a whole different ballgame.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 7, 2010 -> 07:41 PM) http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&sou...g+&aqi=g-z1 I did that to confirm what I was seeing, actually I searched for "facebook bra color" and I laughed to myself, but it's a fun little game though.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 7, 2010 -> 02:37 PM) All these "clever" women. Posting their bra colors on their Facebook statuses. lol, I figured it out last night, some gave a little too much detail. How'd you figure it out, did you see where I had the secret posted for 10 minutes?

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jan 7, 2010 -> 02:17 AM) I rotate different cartoons to see what hits and what doesn't. This month I have rotated the "Pinky and the Brain" and the "Animaniacs" to the PS3. My son loves Pinky and the Brain, and has no use so far for Animaniacs. About 2 months ago I had rotated My Little Pony for my daughter and she loved it so much its pretty much the bulk of her Christmas toys that she got. She loves that show. My son is a little too young for all that, but I have some of those on DVD too for when he gets ready to wean himself off Nick Jr. in a couple of years.

QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Jan 6, 2010 -> 11:26 PM) Ever see the Spanish version? (right around 0:50 is where the music starts) How about "That old car is worth money" "710 East Green in Bensenville"? I was watching the Blues Brothers with my boys the other day and had a field day pointing out some old landmarks, in particular the Magikist Lips on the highway. Yeah, I like how "casa de conecion de credito" still fits in the rhythm. lol
