QUOTE (T R U @ Dec 28, 2009 -> 05:40 PM) Lets be honest here, you prolly wouldn't even hear about them if ESPN didn't bring it up every single time someone was on the "Path to Perfection".. They are the ones who talk about it, they are the ones who bring Morris on TV.. I don't see anything wrong with them popping champagne once the last undefeated team falls.. what they did was obviously a very important part of history in the NFL and they are entitled to not only celebrate it, but want to remain the only ones to accomplish it.. Its not like they are at the Colts games booing them and heckling from the stands.. One of the many reasons I never watch ESPN anymore. There was an article in Yahoo not too long ago about how the '07 Pats saved us from the obnoxious '72 Dolphins, while I was reading it I was thinking "yeah right, wait until the Saints and/or the Colts lose and we'll hear about this s*** again..."

QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 28, 2009 -> 10:10 AM) I think if the Colts with the Super Bowl, nobody will care about this game. But the Jets are now in at a wildcard spot. What do the other teams fighting for that playoff spot think of what the Colts did? They should be thinking about winning as many games as the Colts edit: already been said, I thought I was at the end of this thread.

QUOTE (jenks45monster @ Dec 28, 2009 -> 06:19 PM) - Show me another good season from Quentin in the Majors then we'll talk. How many one year wonders have there been in baseball? No man, it just doesn't work that way. I love prospects as much as the next guy, but onegood season from Quentin in the majors, for the time being at least, is infinitely better than anything Carter has done, basically by default. UNTIL and UNLESS Carter does that, this will not and should not change.

QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Dec 28, 2009 -> 11:33 AM) I just don't understand why everyone has to suffer for DHS' mistake. And honestly, not getting up for the last hour is ridiculous. How about being "escorted?" Or even better, I'll give my toddler in diapers to you for the last hour and YOU can keep him in his seat. I feel horrible for all the Flight Attendants out there having to deal with angry passengers. I can't imagine they would want that job much longer. Remember when they used to ask "Did you pack these bags yourself" and "have they been in your possession the whole time?" That was really f***ing silly considering if I wanted to, say, bring a bomb on the plane, and I was answering these questions honestly, I'd answer "Yes" just like everybody else who is not trying to bring a bomb on the plane. "Yes, I put this bomb in my luggage. Yes, I don't want to lose the bomb, so it's been in my possession the whole time."

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 28, 2009 -> 10:54 AM) LOL, that's as idiotic as blaming Obama for this. The guy was, from what I read, on the terrorist watch list, but somehow NOT on the no-fly list (f*** up), AND he got through screening with explosives (f*** up). The system worked... that's a laugh. Those aren't necessarily the same thing. I know it looks bad to the public when it's worded/unfolds that way, but being watchlisted in and of itself doesn't automatically mean the government is doing a bunch of other things too and is restricting that person's access. Sometimes (a lot of times) they don't know they're watchlisted. There could be any number of reasons they're on the list and the information isn't always reliable. But there are times when it finds out Person X was doing Y and the cop ran his name in NCIC and guess what? He's on the terrorist watch list, oh no, how in the f*** did that happen? But we find out, there's no policies that say "this person can't come within 400 feet of any government facility because they're under investigation for that time they had a suspected terrorist's phone number in their records."

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 28, 2009 -> 09:30 AM) It depends on how you define Al Qaeda at this point. There are press reports that this guy claimed he was a member. There are press reports that the Ft. Hood shooter had email contact with a cleric in Yemen that you might have been able to call sort of linked to that. Neither one of them appear to have trained in camps, served in Afghanistan, or had any dealings/funding from any sort of central organization. If you define AQ as the remnants of the centralized organization that existed on 9/11, then no, these guys didn't have any dealings with it. If you define AQ as the looser network of anti-American groups that grew up after we failed to kill off AQ in Afghanistan and the remaining guys spread throughout the region, then we might be getting closer. Dammit Balta I was basically going to type this, in response I'm going to go into the environmental thread and type an accurate paragraph on something having to do with volcanoes.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 27, 2009 -> 03:33 PM) Lots of things could be said hurt the Sox, I'm not sure I can label 1 and say "this killed them", perhaps aside from Quentin's injury. Jenks has a better season, are they a playoff team, probably not. Dye doesn't stink in the 2nd half, are they a playoff team, probably not. The Sox have a better defense, are they a playoff team, probably not. 2 or 3 of those start happening...are they a playoff team, probably. Co-sign

The one time I can remember the weather causing a problem with my dish was the blackout game, it was about the 4th and Danks was pitching, it came back in the 6th I think. Any other time I really wouldn't have cared.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 27, 2009 -> 03:29 PM) Who else is going to want the Bears' job if the Bears aren't willing to spend serious money on a new coach? Dave Toub

Happened not from Darwin, the appropriateness of this is not lost on me.

I was kind of annoyed by that snow on Saturday which came suddenly and for no reason. My flight back to Maryland was only delayed by about an hour.

For the record not everything having to do with Muslim terrorists is "al-Qaida," you're giving them way too much credit if you do that (both al-Qaida and the terrorists who wants people to think he's al-Qaida).
-
It's been a dead issue for a while - people (like me) wanted him to get another chance, he got his chance, he blew it and never did anything special for the Sox so that's that.

Why do you guys keep poking Thunderbolt with the same stick after he addresses individual points multiple times, I know the guy can be stubborn but come on now, here he is repeating himself because the same question is being asked over and over. (not referring to Rock's post above though cuz I think that's a valid question)

This is a pretty good write-up on the behind-the-scenes stuff at Copenhagen. http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2009...ange-mark-lynas Summary: China deliberately sabotaged the whole thing and made it so that Obama and the West were left holding the bag as the ones that blew it.

2005 Sox Best World Series Team of the Decade?
lostfan replied to palehose23's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (ChisoxfaninOH @ Dec 24, 2009 -> 07:39 AM) I still regret not actually going to one of the games. I'm from ohio and had to deal with years of the Indians winning the division here, then we make a run, I just got home from Iraq and had the cash, but didn't go. I'll probably regret it for a while. I also had just gotten back from Iraq and I, fortunately, did get to catch a game because I had just PCSd to Maryland. At that point I knew the Sox were good, and I recall casually mentioning to another Sox fan in the elevator of the parking garage (Sox had beat the Orioles 7-2, I forget who started, Contreras maybe?) "this team is the best I've seen in a while, I think we're taking the Series this year." I said that, and I half-meant it, but I didn't actually think the team was going to stay hot and actually win the World Series, let alone only lose once in the playoffs. What I do regret, and pisses me off to this day, is that I got sent to my NCO school in Kentucky in mid-October - thanks, you f***ing assholes, for making me have to catch my team's first World Series in almost 50 years through my cellphone's s***ty updates. Thank god for DVD though. -
I'm waiting to meet the first person in my life who is actually legitimately offended by Christmas outside of the mythical world of Fox News commentary. Anyone?

QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Dec 24, 2009 -> 03:50 AM) I have lots. The one that annoyed my family the most is that I have to have all the dishes in cupboards in the same order all the time. That goes for silverware and whatnot in drawers too. If someone else put anything away not in the fashion I would do, I would change it to my liking. I'm pretty fussy about the way food is put in cupboards too. The other people in my household stack the dishes in random order when they come out of the dishwasher instead of having the smallest ones on top. This isn't even OCD on my part, it's just a f***ing stupid thing to not do and I'm baffled by it, it's not like it's difficult to figure out where dishes should go in the stack and it takes like an extra 15 seconds to do properly. Once I opened the cabinet and almost had all the plates fall out onto the counter and I said out loud "whoever puts the dishes away is either lazy or mentally retarded" and I come to find out later my stepdaughter heard me and I somehow hurt her feelings so she told her mother... lol. Sorry, no sympathy or apology from me there.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Dec 23, 2009 -> 09:55 PM) The IDEA is being debated, but how many people have even seenthe final bill? And by the time they all finish f***ing with it adding pork and removing ann the compromises they originally put in, even if they HAD seen it before, would it even resemble what they first read? Hi Alpha Dog, welcome to legislating, it's not pretty
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 23, 2009 -> 06:41 PM) Ditto any version of "This is being rushed through". I can't remember any time that legislation was debated for so long in my life.

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 23, 2009 -> 05:36 PM) Are you familiar with how medicare was passed? Social Security? Were you around for them? Many agendas that have affected the country's government, business sector and people have been passed much faster than what will effectively be 3 congressional sessions, and that's if you don't count the debate that ensued during the Presidential election, or the debate 40 years before that. For instance, the patriot act passed in a single congressional session, in fact it passed in about a month. The debate has been long and varied, and has ended up at this bill. Yes, there are reasons to try and finish up legislation before a session ends, especially since apparently the senate can only work on one item at a time, they still need to tackle all the bills that have passed the house. And if you are wondering why this has to be done now, for one it's because a lot of these issues have been punted on for 20 years, and it's time they be addressed. Whenever you hear someone say "we should start over" that is code for "scrap the whole thing entirely."

In the 2nd half of the 90s I was a casual baseball fan because I was a heartbroken 12-year old kid in 1994 but it was the 2000 Sox that got me back into baseball again. I remember sitting one afternoon watching the Sox perform a full-body assraping of the Mariners, they won by like 20 runs. Then the Sox played those same Mariners in the playoffs and folded so quickly... sigh. I didn't see that coming. Had I not joined the Army in 2001 and been here and there I would've known just as much about the early teams of this decade as I do from the ones 2004-now.

QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Dec 22, 2009 -> 10:06 PM) I also do the money thing in my wallet. So when does something become normal and not an OCD. Maybe the crazy f***ers that keep their money all jumbled up are the ones with a disorder. DMD. Disorganized Money Disorder. Money put in sequential order in your wallet is the right thing to do. What do these DMD misfits do when paying for something?? Dump all their cash out, searching for bills and slowing down us productive members of society. f*** yeah. Once I let an old lady in front of me at Walgreen's because I had a few things in my basket and she just had a couple of things and I figure I was going to be nice to her. I felt good about it until she pulled out a Crown Royal bag full of coins, then I got pissed. Moral of the story: don't let old ladies in front of you in line at Walgreen's.

Yeah I was confused at first reading that, I'm thinking I know Loaiza won 21 games in 2003 but I don't remember any Cy Youngs? lol. Whoops.

Colon won the Cy Young in 2005...?
