QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 9, 2009 -> 09:37 AM) I agree that people like Harry Reid have s*** for brains -- and for one specific reason -- people like him have forgotten their place. I'm friends with a Congressmen, his name is Jared Polis from Colorado. He's amongst this type, much to my dismay. They no longer carry out the word of their people, but instead make choices for them, because, in his own words, "we know whats best for them". Beyond arrogant. Reid, Pelosi, and I'm sure many on the republican side feel this way...and I feel this is a BIG problem in our government. I read Polis's "Freshman Year" articles on CNN. He seems like a pretty cool guy actually.

I was addressing BigSqwert's complaint about kap saying Harry Reid had s*** for brains or whatever it was. Personally I don't care and I let a lot of stuff like that slide. That's just how kap talks.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 11:53 PM) You mean more than usual? Indeed.

Preparing a business plan is time-consuming.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 11:01 PM) *Yawn* PM me, you doofus. I'll explain all the differences to you and the legal and tax ramifications. I did a lot of work in this during the short time I actually worked for a CPA firm. General, boring non committal advice, of course. I probably sound like a complete moron to you guys... lol

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 09:37 PM) I thought there were rules in place on this forum for saying things like this? To each other yeah, but I think only divine intervention will keep Kap from making ridiculous statements.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 08:05 PM) I think they could have asked him about any player currently with another team and he would have responded the same way. I think people read way too much into his response. Yeah... really I would do the same thing if for no other reason than just to mess with people.

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 07:46 PM) You can say I cheated, and that he listed his OPS. But clearly BABIP was used here on its own here for us to infer that Carlos was unlucky last year. This was the post LF responded to. Yes. Thank you

QUOTE (KevinM @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 05:56 PM) I read the thread. I didn't see anyone claim BABIP was a relevant statistic on its own. In fact, I've never seen a SABR guy/girl simply throw BABIP out there without batted ball rates or something similar. No one simply looks at BABIP in isolation. You said you didn't believe in its utility, but then stated that you only have a problem with it in isolation. You are failing to understand how BABIP is used -- as it is always coupled with batted ball rates and past BABIP data. You really could've sounded about 3 or 4 shades less condescending, but in any case I really kind of addressed that when I said "I can't post the full rant I usually do about BABIP" so I thought the reason for the lack of semantics was going to be self-evident. Oh and... for the record, yes people look at BABIP in isolation all the time, in this thread, even.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 05:34 PM) I suggest you look at these websites: http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departme...vices/home.html LLC- $500 Corp- $150 http://egov.cityofchicago.org/city/webport...elName=Business The Secretary of State website is really good. In the forms section it has a guide to forming LLC/Corp, it gives you start to finish information, including how to get your FEIN and registering with the IBT. Also, I suggest searching the difference between LLC/Corp. Its small, but it still may impact your decision. (And its strange that instead of doing real work, im doing fake work on the internet. haha) Yeah we did look up the difference and we decided we wanted to be a LLC, it almost seems counterintuitive that it costs less for the extra protections of a corporation though...?
-
An LLC costs more to form than a corporation?
-
It'll be a LLC, we won't be big enough to need to be a corporation at first.

General area is the south side of Chicago but we don't have a building, or even a location picked yet. We're not that far in the process. I do wonder though if we can find some empty building and just pick up where that one left off.

Yeah that's what I was thinking, I was pretty up front about the fact that I was soliciting, I didn't think there were any ethical issues on the attorney's part if I initiated it, I'm not a lawyer though so I don't know. Someone told me that you also have to go through the alderman to make sure they don't have a limit on the # of liquor licenses in their ward. I think for the most part we have a good idea on what we're going to have to do to get all the various licenses, but what we don't know about is payrolls and that kind of thing.
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 04:24 PM) Im not sure how ethical it is for me to answer that question. I see that you are from Maryland, so are you looking for Maryland advice or Illinois advice? I know there are a few Illinois attorneys, but im not sure there are any Maryland ones here. How's it not ethical exactly? To get to the "why" I'm trying to open up a sports bar and it'll be in Illinois.

I'm trying to find a practicing attorney who has experience in business law - is there anyone here who's into that?
-
QUOTE (KevinM @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 01:36 PM) I don't really think anyone is arguing that BABIP is a good statistic in isolation. Don't make up an argument to dispute. umm wtf are you talking about, please read the thread first before making a comment like this

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 01:01 PM) I think the cart is going in front of the horse in this case. It isn't TCQs BABIP that indicated a bad year, it was a symptom of his bad year. The guy had a bad foot and couldn't drive off of that foot like he was accustomed to. This meant that everything he was hitting, wasn't getting hit with the same authority that he did in 2008 for example. The guy hit a bunch of lazy flyballs last year, that wouldn't have been the prior years, because he simply couldn't hit the ball with his usual authority. Q wasn't unlucky last year, he was hurt. In 2008 he wasn't lucky, he was healthy. If he is healthy he will see all of those fancy statistics rebound. If he isn't, they will suck again. $$$

QUOTE (chunk23 @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 12:56 PM) But, when looked at with other stats, BABIP can tell you why that fluctuation occurred. If BABIP dips but LD% stays the same, that could be chalked up to luck. If BA drops but BABIP doesn't, it's most likely that they're striking out more. If someone is having a breakout year, but their career BABIP is .250 and now it's .400, you can probably call it a fluke. BABIP is a very useful stat when looked at with other stats. By itself, though, it tells you nothing. That's what I'm saying.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 12:10 PM) All I think it does is help explain that his batting average was lower than normal. I'm not using it to say he is a good or bad hitter (he was unlucky this year, lucky in 2008), but I think, based on all of his peripherals, that he should have hit better than .230 and he didn't. It's generally more useful with pitchers, because there is a relative standard set (even though it does still fluctuate a bit), but fluctuates with hitters because each hitter is different in his own way. For pitchers, yeah. I like it. For hitters, you're not wrong, but the fluctuations in BABIP almost always coincide with fluctuations in regular batting average, with or without the other stats (LD% etc.). QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 12:32 PM) BAPIP is a pretty big bull-s*** stat. I do think if you factor it in with line-drive rate and some other stuff that it can turn into a relatively decent piece of information though. This.
-
I can't post the full rant I usually do about BABIP but we can leave it at I'm not a believer in BABIP as a useful stat for hitters, and we don't need it to explain Carlos's aberrant stats last year.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 10:46 AM) God I hope not. Carl Crawford is what he is - an .800-.825 OPS player who is going to get really expensive really fast. Carlos Quentin, in what was considered a bad year, still put up a .779 OPS, though it was mostly slugging favored, and he's still under team control for a while. His BABIP last year was .223, which is very, very low. Unless the Sox are absolutely convinced that he is constantly going to be an injury waiting to happen, I don't even consider this. His BABIP was low because he wasn't hitting, which there were other reasons for. Had nothing to do with luck

So is there actually a chance it is signed into law before Christie is inaugurated?

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 11:22 PM) Especially during THOSE Bulls years?!?! I'm shocked not all the Bulls players (that we know of) weren't drunk/high playing. We had a team at the beginning of this decade? I wasn't aware. -
This one is better but still, all of them are cut off somewhere. Her sister's butt is just as big but her waist is a lot smaller and you can't see it anyway cuz Girl #3 is in close.
