  1. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 24, 2009 -> 09:47 PM) Hilariously, they point to the ozone hole or acid rain as examples of 'over-hyped' environmental issues that nothing ever came of. It's really sort of sad. That's funny, cuz acid rain declined because we took political action against it.
  2. That's such an intellectually dishonest and cheap way to score political points. Then again that's the only thing the Bush Administration can actually claim credit for.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 24, 2009 -> 06:33 PM) Its not a great secret that the greatest outlays we have are security and social programs. Defense (at one point the budget was a few times more than all of the other countries in the world combined, defense is a cult), Social Security (which has its own problems but at least there's a tax for it), and Medicare (good luck trying to get rid of THAT) is about 2/3 of the budget, and I haven't counted the wars or the various tax cuts. The usual stuff people snipe about aren't really fixes for anything, or even necessarily problems, they're just a convenient way to get people to rally and send in campaign contributions. My point being, fixing the budget takes total unity of effort across the board, something which nobody in power or nobody even talking about wanting to be in power is willing to do right now.
  4. I wish you guys could read what the words that were actually used in some of these threats.
  5. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Nov 24, 2009 -> 05:19 PM) Yea, and we're probably going to be looking at the same #'s for Obama. You just don't hear about crap unless it's controversial. What about Hamilton who just got nominated? Just another example. That actually sounds like about 90% of the non-crook activities Congressmen do every day.
  6. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Nov 24, 2009 -> 05:11 PM) I certainly don't know the answers to these questions, but I can guess at one of them. This team believes that Hester and to a certain extent, Knox, are playmakers. Put the ball in their hands and anything can happen. Well, that's true, but you need some blocking in front of them and a guy who doesn't mind contact (I'm looking at you, Devin). With the crap-ass season Forte is having, for whatever reason, opponent's defenses are loading up on the pass. And until the Bears can make them pay, either with better pass protection or more big runs, we are going to see more of the same for the next 6 games. As a side note, I hope someone puts Jared Allen on his ass and drives his mullet through his skull. I don't think Hester's been shying away from contact, at least i haven't seen it that much. He's gotten hammered pretty hard, and there's nowhere you get hit harder than on special teams, where he came from. Bennett and Knox though... yeah. They probably account for 5 of Cutler's INTs just on that alone.
  7. really though, Crisp isn't the worst we could possibly do. Do you want more of a sure thing, well yeah of course you do. Easier said than done though.
  8. QUOTE (YASNY @ Nov 24, 2009 -> 04:12 PM) But his health was major question mark when KW signed him. cha-ching-ching
  9. QUOTE (YASNY @ Nov 24, 2009 -> 04:06 PM) A lot of the arguments I am seeing against signing Crisp, I saw when KW signed another injury plagued outfielder a few years ago. While they are different types of players, I think most would say that signing Jermaine Dye was a good thing. Cha-ching
  10. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Nov 24, 2009 -> 03:38 PM) I'm married and if I made 130k + benefits I'd be very well off. Depending on how you define rich, I could be rich making that money. In comparison to the richest people in the world...no, but 130k+ for me, I'd be rich, yes. But being rich had nothing to do with my point. They're paid a lot for what they do. And I'm friends with a congressmen, so I know what they do and what they consider "work". Washington DC/MD/Northern VA has one of the highest costs of living in the nation (if I did the same job you had here, I'd probably make 20-30k more and we'd have the same standard of living), and like I said earlier, they have to pay for an apartment in the DC area and a place in their home district. I don't think their compensation is unreasonable at all really.
  11. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 24, 2009 -> 03:30 PM) I think there are cases that it´s clear the US screwed up and is now only holding them to save face and justify the techniques. and no, i don´t think they are doing enough to move these cases forward, and no, I don´t see GITMO closed down by Jan. 20 They've already more or less admitted it's not happening by Jan. 20. There's so much involved with these cases.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 24, 2009 -> 02:10 PM) Ok so who has said 100% innocent? And for God's sake, let's quit pretending that a $12 trillion debt is some fault of health care. It isn't. That is complete crap. You can't trace the debt, or even the deficit, to any one thing, or even to one concept. It just is. There's probably 9 or 10 things that need to happen to control the deficit, none of them are popular.
  13. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Nov 24, 2009 -> 02:26 PM) Their compensation comes in more forms than salary. They make a very good salary, by the way. Now let's add in their health care benefits, which outclass mine by far and I work for Blue f***ing Cross...and some of these benefits NEVER end for them. So contrary...while they may not be compensated in "pure money", they are better compensated than most anyone you know. $174k, although with the cushy benefit package you mentioned, but we're talking about some pretty senior positions here. That's in the range of an SES (a GS-15 in DC probably makes around $130k). That's a nice salary especially for a single person, but you'll never get rich working for the government. Well-compensated sure, but not rich.
  14. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 24, 2009 -> 12:18 PM) read some of these cases before you talk out of your ass and then claim we are delusional. You guys think they're just sitting on their ass or something?
  15. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Nov 24, 2009 -> 10:33 AM) Meanwhile, however, they never forget to give themselves raises. Contrary to popular belief, Congressmen don't make that much money. They have about enough to pay their mortgage in their home district, rent an apartment in DC (which is expensive), and that's about it. The ones who are rich were either already personally rich, or got rich after they left office.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 04:06 PM) Late to the game, but "Up" was fantastic. Think my 3 year old will like it?
  17. Not so much that things would be BETTER on the O-line, but that they wouldn't be manifestly worse. Cutler can't use play action in Chicago. You need a running game for that.
  18. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 07:02 PM) Out of all the bad contracts on this page, I think PK is amongst the best of the bad, and I wouldn't even say his is bad, albeit it is a bit pricey. I wouldn't mind dealing Liney for Bradley, as was sugggested earlier, as I think Ozzie can turn the piece of sh*t around and the guy has exceptional talent. I know he's a bad seed and all, but that's what they said about Dennis Rodman as well. When he came to the Bulls, he didn't mess around because he knew MJ was the boss. I believe Ozzie is of the same ilk... Dennis Rodman was one of the best defensive PFs in the history of the NBA. I don't think Bradley brings any ability remotely comparable to that.
  19. QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 07:00 PM) And Kap is waaay more right than wrong. Both sides flip flop on what is right and wrong, the level of hypocrisy we accept from "our" side is too much, and the level we accept from the "other" side is too little. Not if he's talking about me specifically.
  20. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 05:37 PM) Be honest, you're all for it if it benefits your cause. Not at all, it's a half-assed way to govern, and the Senate wasn't intended to function this way.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 06:03 PM) If you put Cutler on the market this offseason, wouldn't you be able to score basically the same deal that the bears gave up for him? 2 firsts and, I dunno, Jason Campbell or someone at that level? Probably. NFL scouts are smarter than NFL fans and won't be so myopic.
  22. I got an idea, let's put together a package for a young Pro Bowl QB who hasn't entered his prime yet this coming offseason.
  23. Yes, definitely end it, at least in its current form.
  24. for some reason my work computer doesn't like that site at all.
  25. QUOTE (Soxy @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 12:45 PM) At first I was disappointed by the lack of Biden--but then the ending saved it. Joe wants you in his office, he says your mammogram is due?
