  1. QUOTE (shingofan69 @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 09:32 PM) How many one run games have we lost this season? Dotel was good in the beginning of the season, but Linebrink hasn't had it for a while Welcome to Soxtalk.
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 09:24 PM) Screw the expectations. I want to win games. He should have gotten a hit there, as should have Thome. You know he's responsible for the runs the Sox have scored so far rightt? Geez man. Ease up. He's on a roll right now, you want him to be batting .800?
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 09:20 PM) Beckham has had many opportunities to be a hero. When is he going to deliver? Leave Beckham be for now. We shouldn't be putting expectations like this on him. It's just not common to see rookies come up and dominate.
  4. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 08:09 PM) I realize Soxtalk is not one collective voice but you hear so many calls for a youth movement, and when a solid yet unspectacular player like Getz struggles you hear calls for him to be sent down. Just so odd that people can't see his talent. Odd... more like f***ing obnoxious IMO.
  5. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 05:28 PM) We have a long history of f***ing with Iran's goverment. From the days of Mohammed Mosaddeq to the whole Iraq-Iran war / Iran contra mess. Maybe we should sit this one out. Since we don't have the best record with picking goverments over there. If the people of Iran want to get rid of their theocracy, they will. Countries don't need the United States to always come and save them from themselves. If they actually do start a revolution for real, and indications are that they are going to put up a new government and they'll want better relations with the West, THEN we can start picking sides, because it'll all appear legitimate.
  6. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 05:21 PM) Of course not. I'm trying to do too much crap at once. Upgrade talkbears/bulls, get the new server, read StrangeSox Roberts debacle, and this. Did I say something? I just lol'd.
  7. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 05:20 PM) Well, see, they know that if they really start a revolution, the American military will come rolling in to help out! Which makes perfect sense because 1) We'd actually do that 2) They'd actually want foreign military intervention It was really just someone trying to ad hoc justify the Iraq war still. Yeah, I just wanted to make sure that's what they were saying before I condemned it as the dumbest thing I've ever heard. The comment I had in my mind when I was making that post was something along the lines of the protesters waiting to know that the protesters are waiting to know that America is on their side. Except... they... aren't. And it's not like we have a great history of doing that either, like when Bush 41 told the Shiites to rise up against Saddam and then up and left and let them get slaughtered. Whoops.
  8. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 05:09 PM) He set the stage of this with the Cairo speech. That's where he put his foot in his mouth. He can't say much now because of that speech. What part of the Cairo speech? Where he admitted that the US overthrew their government? That wasn't a secret.
  9. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 05:17 PM) I've actually read someone make the argument that the protesters are emboldened by the fact that the US military is in Iraq. How's that?
  10. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 05:04 PM) That's where I'm hung up at too. I heard about this but I don't know the details. That's why I'm asking. If what you're saying is the case, then yeah, the Supreme Court can't set that kind of precedent. But if it's limited to those cases, the ruling is a disaster.
  11. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 05:03 PM) The problem is Obama's already put his foot in his mouth, which has forced this to become what it is. I know, I know, there's no way in hell that his supporters will see it that way. I see absoluting nothing wrong with a statement that supports the "voters", no more, no less (definitely no more - I get that side of it but saying nothing is speaking very loudly, IMO). But whatever, I guess that doesn't matter after 30 years of telling them we'd be there for them if they ever got their voice heard. New day, new policy. He hasn't put his foot in his mouth any more than he meant to. His strategy is pretty calculated and deliberate. And he's already basically said the part you said you'd have no problem with. What these people are advocating basically amounts to taking sides which would be a disaster.
  12. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 04:53 PM) It would have been like the USSR getting involved in Watergate. Even if they had good intentions, most would assume that the USSR was up to no good. Which is why the US has to stay completely uninvolved, so that the rhetoric cant resonate. Supposedly they had people on television confessing that they were paid by the West to come from Iraq to incite rebellion and cause terror. Their support is in some ways tied to the "the West is Satan ideology", so you cant give them any fuel. Yeah, that's a pretty accurate analogy I'd say. Of course, someone advocating getting involved would probably refute that and say "How can you compare the US to the USSR? We're not like the communists!" Well, duh, WE know that, but that doesn't matter. It's all perspective. In this case it would be a self-fulfilling prophecy. The Iranian government is already trying to accuse us of meddling, and we haven't done anything except indicate we would like to see free and fair elections, and that the Iranian government should allow the right to protest. Hardly controversial.
  13. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 04:57 PM) The problem is, if you don't do it the way that the Supreme Court ruled, in effect, every guilty plea is now turned on its ass. It basically throws out all court cases with a guilty plea based on all the evidence at trial. I mean, I understand your points, but how can you say that every case must now have a review with DNA evidence? The ruling doesn't say that they won't get a review, it just says that every case doesn't have the right to a review. Am I right? I haven't read other than what StrangeSox posted, but it sounds like he's talking about in cases where DNA evidence is available. If that is the case, then it makes no sense to allow the review. If the conviction was correct, it will theoretically be upheld by DNA evidence... right? So where's the problem, what's Roberts talking about here?
  14. StrangeSox, you're also a practicing lawyer right? I get you and Soxbadger confused sometimes.
  15. Some of the op-eds I've read criticizing Obama are unbelievably dumb, they just aren't based anywhere in reality. And why do people assume America's support is automatically wanted, and approved of? Sometimes, in fact most of the time, when thinking about other countries you have to take your "nationality" glasses off and try and see the world differently than a random American from Nebraska would. Otherwise nothing you say or think will make any sense.
  16. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 08:26 PM) Seriously, this is the problem with the government we have now, regardless of party. Everyone's power tripping and playing games rather then actually looking out for all of us. I hate it. You are dead on with this post and it just makes me really sad, Republican or Democrat. Although I can't say I didn't 100% expect it to happen, I hate how the Democrats in the House are basically doing whatever they think Obama wants them to do when they criticized Republicans for doing the same thing and they said they wouldn't be like that. Pelosi = Hastert.
  17. Cubano, if you go to "full edit" you can change the title. This guy sounds pretty legit. How many years has he been in the Cuban pros?

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 11:44 AM) I'm sure a few folks on here had a fun night last night with the storms as well. I had a dog sleeping next to me on my pillow when I woke up at 5 am. Yeah, whenever it rains they have her in the bed between them and they're both cuddling with her and such. She whimpers, cries, and shakes. Poor thing.
  19. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 10:46 AM) Or maybe they feel that for every 10 people who go to the site and say "they are crazy". One person will go to the site, look around and check out other things on the site and get intrested. I know alot of people that work for or with Peta and one thing they are not is attention whores. They work hard for what they believe and they always stick to their guns. What you just described is kind of de facto attention whoring.
  20. I woulda made her call me "General" or "Brigadier General." What's she gonna do to me?
  21. Flies only live somewhere between 24 to 72 hours when they mature anyway... so yeah... that fly would be dead by now.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 02:15 PM) Go to an animal shelter and rescue an animal. They do have puppies, but you may also find a dog there a year old or so that you fall in love with. I am glad my home owners association has a limit on the amount of dogs you can have, otherwise my wife, son and occasionally myself, who volunteer at the Plainfield Humane Society, would end up bringing home half the animals we see! We have 2 beagles, both rescue dogs. Sometimes they take work, like our older dog. Her previous owners beat her and yelled at her, which made housetraining very heard. The slightest raising of your voice sent her quivering and peeing. but now she is the sweetest dog around, loves everyone and everything. My friends adopted a black Lab a few years ago. For some reason that dog was terrified of me, but if I took my glasses off she was as playful as any young dog could be. She acted that way around anybody who wore glasses, so the conclusion we drew was that the previous owner she was rescued from abused her, and wore glasses. So she'd cringe whenever she saw anybody that looked like that. Thankfully, she's over that now. The only thing that really terrifies her anymore is thunder.

My wife had a calico cat (Cookie) when I met her, I think she's 5 now. She is indifferent to most people in the house, but she is crazy about me and sleeps with me every night, sometimes she is by my feet and I accidentally kick her when I wake up. I swear she's anorexic or something though. She used to be a b**** to strangers esp. after getting spayed and being made to move to a new house, but now that she's adjusted she is friendly to all my friends except one. My stepdaughter was insistent on getting a kitten so we adopted a little bright orange tabby. She named her Sparkle (yeah, yeah, stripper name I know). Sparkle is annoying as hell though I swear to god. We should've adopted the year-old cat, first of all he is a male and would get along with Cookie (Cookie and Sparkle hate each other) secondly he is much more laid back. Sparkle has a special talent for ALWAYS being in the way.
