  1. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 06:59 PM) Not sure what the exact numbers are (Qwerty, Kalapse probably know this right off the top of their heads), but I didn't think the defense was anywhere close to 2005 caliber in 2006. Again, I could be wrong. The eye test memory tells me you're probably right, but we still weren't bad either. Not like this year. We f***ing blow this year. And 2007 saw a lot of players like Andy Gonzalez getting a lot of playing time.

I mean, objectively speaking, it is not a good movie. It's still worth watching and it has great action sequences, but for the de facto company its budget puts it in competition with, it doesn't measure Saying it is a movie about toy robots in defense of it is a red herring and this argument doesn't hold water with me. Terminator 2 is a movie about time-traveling machines that are planning a war against humans. The Dark Knight is a movie about a guy who fights crime by dressing up as a bat. Batman and Robin was about the same thing and there is literally not a single sane person on this entire planet that will tell you B&R was better than The Dark Knight. Iron Man, which was a surprisingly great movie IMO, is about a guy who makes a suit that lets him fly and beat the s*** out of people. It isn't a lot to ask to expect the second Transformers movie to follow the precedent set by the first and be as good as those movies. It falls way short.
  3. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 06:54 PM) When you have a contact staff like ours, defense is critical. I realized this for the first time in 2005. We haven't had a good fielding team since that year. We weren't bad in '06. Same team basically except Rowand was Anderson.
  4. Ugh is it too much to ask to hold a lead longer than a half-inning?
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 05:41 PM) Frankly, if he didn't have the kind of money he had, he probably would have been. ^^
  6. lol. I didn't say it was normal and I didn't say it was an excuse. But it's pretty obvious that there was a bulb or two keeping that string of Christmas lights from lighting all the way up.
  7. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 11:19 PM) He was accused of pedophilia, not jay walking. Lots of people had bad childhoods and dealt with abuse. I appreciate his talent, and the gift he had and the world will miss his talent. I can also appreciate that its not normal for 45 year old man to sleep in the same bed with children that are not their own. I'm no psychologist but I think there's a good chance that he really didn't understand that it wasn't normal because he was too messed up in the head, and that he never actually did anything. He also didn't have many actual friends, just people that wanted to be around him and take advantage of him.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 04:48 PM) The irony is, you are pretty much describing the health care plan, and its affect on doctors. If done the wrong way. I'm thinking that current plan will die before the bill comes out. I could be wrong.
  9. I don't see why that's worth getting upset over especially if you don't live in RI. Plus the "they have more important things to worry about" is a non-sequitor.
  10. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 12:21 PM) Absolutely. Count me in the "I'm not 100% sure, but better safe than sorry" category. Me too but I don't really like to bother arguing it anymore because it becomes an exercise in knocking down straw men.
  11. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 01:47 PM) And this is my problem right now, especially related to political landscapes across the country. The fact that only a few of our states are in black ink or balanced annoys the holy hell out of me. It's not like everything and anything isn't taxed on top of being taxed, yet they're still unable to operate without deficit spending? It's ridiculous. If you go over budget you should be forced out, because it means you cannot do your job. How would you be able to handle your home budget if your job suddenly slashed your compensation by about 1/3 and you had no easy way of raising it back? You'd have some issues cutting expenses wouldn't you? I know I would. And I'm pretty decent with money. Now, some states are better than others at planning for a rainy day, but that's beside the point. I'm not excusing states like CA that are hopeless either.
  12. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 02:40 PM) I think it's easy to do it with Iverson cause he talks like he is rapping... In the actual video of the rant he talks faster and at a more uneven pace. The guy who made this video slowed his voice down to go w/the beat. He did with Dennis Green too, that was funny as hell.
  13. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 11:47 AM) lol, what? The e-mails came from his personal e-mail account. Either someone hacked into his account or he left the computer on and someone jumped on. And the newspaper got it from an annoynmos source over 2 months ago. Michael Savage's theory of the DHS or NSA accessing his e-mails isn't that crazy. Why wouldn't Obama want to eliminate his opponents one by one. I'm not saying that's the case, but the conspiracy theorist inside me kinda believes it. It kind of is. First off any career intelligence specialist (remember, the vast majority of personnel are not political appointees and have no loyalty to parties except for when they vote) is going to know immediately that an order to do so is WAY over the line of what's ethical and legal, and someone would leak it to the Washington Post or the New York Times (or Breitbart, or whatever, hell). Secondly if you get caught doing it, you're done and you can consider yourself lucky if you don't end up in a federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison.
  14. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 01:39 AM) Yeah, but John McCain's made up affair with a lobyist was on the front page of the New York freaking times and was big news for at least a week. I guarantee you if the Enquirer broke the story about Sanford or Ensign, the media would be covering the s*** out of it... do you really think the media didn't cover the story because it was reported by the Enquirer and not because it was a liberal who was running for president??? That made up story went nowhere though because it was all bulls*** and didn't even say anything. There was probably more discussion on how it was bulls*** than the article itself. The MSM didn't run with it, nobody's accusing the NYT of being objective either. That'd be like expecting Sean Hannity to not be an apologist for conservatives. Something comparable as far as starting credibility goes - remember a couple of years ago when you posted an article about how Obama supposedly snorted coke and got head from some random dude?

I just came back from watching it. It wasn't as bad as the reviews led me to believe, but that's not a good thing either. I'm glad I read the reviews first though because I lowered my expectations. You have to go in there expecting to see giant robots beating the holy f*** out of one another. The movie has that in spades, not much else. The plot is pretty meh and doesn't follow Transformers canon very well. The "comic relief" is f***ing brutal, all the attempts at humor fall flat. I'm seriously talking Jar Jar Binks type bad. The writing is f***ing cheesy too and the acting is uneven at best. Reminded me of Batman and Robin. It wasn't the greatest movie by any stretch but it's not a waste of money either. It was also about 45 minutes too long. Michael Bay seems to have a hard time keeping movies under 30 minutes. If they took out all the gratuitous scenes of Megan Fox running in slow motion to watch her tits bounce or extended shots of her ass (not that I was really complaining about this at the time) it would probably cut that 45 minutes off. Oh and they used President Obama's real name. I thought that was kind of odd, I never recall any action movie that's done that before.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 09:24 PM) When the Edwards story started he was running for President... of the United States. Everyone ignored the story at that time because it was in the Enquirer. Yeah but it was the f***ing Enquirer though. Sure they ended up being right, but... it's the Enquirer. Had to be taken with a massive grain of salt. What if this story had broken in the Enquirer, as opposed to him disappearing for almost a week?
  17. Lack of media attention for Edwards, really? It was front page news, all over the place. So was Blago and Spitzer. No liberals got a free pass for f***ing up.
  18. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 06:03 PM) Why did Buehrle help Danks with a changeup but neither Danks or Buehrle can help Thornton with one? I thought Buehrle helped Danks with a cutter and Danks was already refining the changeup. In any case there is no pitcher on the Sox who has that sharp of a difference between their fastball and their changeup, righty or lefty. That I know of anyway. Maybe Javy was close.
  19. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 05:57 PM) can you imagine how nasty thornton would be with a 75 mph change? He would pretty much be Johan Santana. What lefty that throws heat and has a 20 mph difference on a change WOULDN'T be nasty?
  20. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 05:54 PM) I just remember hearing all spring, "Wait til you see Alexei at SS." So far, I think I'd rather have OC back at SS. And am starting to think that we shouldn't move Beckham away from SS just to accomodate Alexei, should be the other way. OC sucks s*** this year, no thanks. .243/.289/.313, .602 OPS. No hot streaks either, he's been consistently bad.
  21. Nah it was radical feminists that screwed up his marriage. They successfully blocked gays from ruining the sanctity of marriage in SC. So far. You know the libs are persistent with their neverending quest to destroy America.
  22. Seriously, props to whoever mixed this. This s*** is hot.
  23. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 03:02 PM) A real good defensive player like Uribe can be a major plus regardless of his batting average. But, you mention betemit and he is one I would like to know what is going to transpire as far as he is concerned. He was bad at 3B but I don't remember his skill at 1B. I am thinking it wasn't good either. Well SS and C are the 2 positions that you can neglect offense in favor of elite D, but that's because it's hard to find. If you can get production out of a player like Alexei without sacrificing too much in the way of defense, you're golden. A power hitting SS is like the Holy Grail of baseball. I'm fine with a player like Uribe but I like them having a OBP of .300 at a minimum. Uribe used to frustrate me to no end because he would completely disappear for 2-3 weeks.
  24. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 02:58 PM) If Michael Jackson can do it, so can you! Michael Jackson gave up on being black about 20 years ago.
  25. You don't really have to watch the whole thing, fast forward to about 4:00 in. Is this for real? I guess it is. I don't want to be black anymore. I give up.
