  1. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 12:59 PM) If each league had 15 teams, inter league play would take place throughout the whole year. Some people might like that, but I would think it'd be terrible. It would take away from divisional games and games vs the rest of your league. To be honest I hate divisional games sometimes. I was going to start a thread/poll about this a month ago and for some reason I didn't. I get sick of seeing the same teams 18 or 19 times a year. I mean, in the NFL, the Bears don't play the Packers 3x a year, etc (pretty bad comparison but you get the point).
  2. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 12:39 PM) I really dislike how they do the inter league schedules... what was up with us traveling to Pittsburgh back to back years? The only interleague team you should face back to back years are your interleague rivals. I also feel the American League needs 2 more teams added to make things more even. Move the Astros from the NL Central to the AL West, problem solved. Or if you care about interleague and don't want to take the Rangers' rivals away then move, say, the Rockies to the AL West, and the Astros out of the NL Central to replace the Rockies in the west. Either way both leagues would have 15 teams.
  3. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 12:48 PM) Florida's new stadium is a few years away isn't it? That kind of sucks, don't want to take a trip for a football stadium. See you in DC. Tickets will be cheap and readily available. Means I'll get to go to to both DC and Baltimore next year.
  4. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 12:50 PM) I don't know... has the WH finished that BBall court installation? I wonder if Palin can still ball? Palin vs. Obama on the court would be a pretty sweet publicity stunt if she could.
  5. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 12:30 AM) So? That's not the point. The 2 countries are actually almost nothing alike no matter how much you simplify it and insist it's just a concept of a "surge" that Obama disapproved of at the time. Bush didn't just one day decide to double down on Iraq and add a bunch of extra troops and voila, suddenly the country is pacified. I'm tired of hearing conservatives ignoring the bunch of other major factors that Gates and Petraeus introduced and talking about it like that's what actually happened, too. It's something like a pet peeve of mine now. Obama IS adding troops to Afghanistan but that is mainly because commanders there have been screaming for additional troops for years, but couldn't get them because Afghanistan was being flat-out neglected in favor of Iraq. Now that we're moving troops out of Iraq we have the ability to put some of them in Afghanistan. They're also changing the way we're fighting that war (I still think we're pretty much wasting our time there though, it's been 30 years of war there).
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 05:46 PM) Which would bring up the next question about Can a vast majority Democratic media cover Democrats fairly? *yawn*
  7. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 03:40 PM) It's all a clever marketing ploy lol. Yup. I've started getting into this kind of reading lately. Once I graduate (in October) I'll start reading more national security type books.
  8. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 03:33 PM) It seems like he's just an isolationist. Bring everyone home and our troubles will go away. Not exactly. I can't get a read on him. He wants to confront al-Qaida but how? I guess I have to read one of his books.
  9. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 02:40 PM) Yeah, I think people of his mindset tend to ignore that our meddling is one of the reasons they hate us so much to begin with. Meddling more may not be the brightest idea ever. I am more of the mind to get us off foreign oil ASAP, and put us in a position where that region has nothing we need. That way, any involvement we have is because we want to be involved, plus we'd be in a much better leverage position. Well like I was saying, he knows that. IIRC a couple years back Ron Paul said during a debate that American foreign policy played a role in the spread of terrorism and Giuliani dismissed it out of hand and said it's because they hate our way of life. That's a crowd-pleasing comment especially for the GOP base but it's a pretty ignorant statement to make for someone that thinks they want to be president (granted, al-Qaida would like to rule the world under a global Islamic caliphate and all but that isn't why they attack us). Scheuer backed up Paul on this. There's a line somewhere between defense/eliminating terrorism, and outright meddling. I can't quite put my finger on where that line is according to Scheuer.
  10. I voted no, but not a definite no. Winning the division is not out of the question, the Tigers aren't that good at all. The team is just hot right now and I don't want to fall for fool's gold. But if this pitching holds up, anything can happen, with or without CQ. s*** we lost our best hitter in '05 for the whole year and look how that turned out.
  11. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 02:27 PM) That is indeed a lot more logical, though still over the top IMO. ETA: I was referring to the dude's statements, not yours, as over the top. Yeah, he's one of the ones that sees Islamic militancy as a threat that's going to get worse and worse and that we need to do something about it. Which is kind of ironic since he also criticizes our foreign policy and says that it feeds into their propaganda as an unintended consequence. So I'm not sure what exactly he'd want us to do, it's my opinion that whenever we leave Iraq (whenever that is) that it's something that's an intelligence and special operations problem that shouldn't involve a whole lot of conventional military if it can be avoided.
  12. If I had to guess I would say about 30. Since I've been an adult and able to buy my own tickets I haven't been living in Chicago so I only get to go to 3-4 a year depending on what I do when I visit Chicago.
  13. Ok that makes a LOT more sense and ties better into what I know about him. For the record, Obama's strategic vision of the entire concept is much better than the generic Republican vision (and by extension, Bush's policy) we originally countered with (i.e., invading Iraq for no reason).
  14. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 12:18 PM) Not really. Well, sort of. Beck was a comedian before he started doing the political stuff. Sometimes he makes fun of the fact that he is a f***ing raving lunatic.
  15. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 09:54 PM) i think hes talking about posey. Oh, yeah you're right.
  16. Definitely a quality bump.
  17. QUOTE (YASNY @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 03:40 AM) What's IR? He was probably thinking of the NFL when he wrote that, lol
  18. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 02:09 AM) It may not be an entirely stupid question, but since I'm 6'6, I ALWAYS get the "Do you play basketball?" question. Man that aggravates me. lol, probably 5x worse if you're black.
  19. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 09:41 PM) By the time he's established himself, Mauer wont be catching anymore. Mauer hasn't established himself?
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 09:13 PM) Fantastic outing by Contreras. Turn it over to Thornton or Poreda for the 8th. Who's Thornton? Is that somebody that got DFA'd?
  21. Throws over 100? Nice. What kind of security does Cuba have on the ballplayers when they're out of Cuba? How's his control?
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 09:07 PM) That's funny, he really does look like he's speedwalking. I was watching Dye go for a line drive about 20 feet to his left at a game once and he was just kinda jogging, but he wasn't. That was his actual running speed and that was about the extent of his range.
  23. Holy s***, why send Thome, he almost looked like he was speedwalking around 3rd.
  24. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 08:45 PM) Well, you OBVIOUSLY don't understand talent when you see it. Frank was clearly a talent in 1990 and so is Beckham. To even bring in Viciedo into this conversation is silly. lol @ trying to school qwerty. Why would you jump in front of that bus?
