When did Ozzie get scared of the umps? He got out to the field, looked at who the ump was, and turned back around. -

I'm not mad at Paulie trying to take 2nd, that was just a bad call. He was safe by a good foot. -
QUOTE (dbaho @ Jul 4, 2009 -> 01:38 PM) Is he the Minnesota Governor who was almost McCain's running mate? Yes and for now he's still in good shape. Jindal should recover nicely, he had a hiccup giving the response to Obama's address a few months ago. Mark Sanford was on the short list of possible GOP candidates until he literally screwed himself out of it.

Hillary eventually did run for president and almost win. Obama's unseating of her was literally miraculous.

lol @ my math. That's why I said it was a bad comparison.

QUOTE (qwerty @ Jul 4, 2009 -> 05:30 AM) After nearly 2000 innings (essentially a full season and a half) in the field anderson's career numbers literally hover right around the league average in every defensive metric known to man. If that is not mediocre, then i don't know what is. In 2006 IIRC his defensive metrics were through the roof. He hasn't repeated it since then. Still, compared to the other trash we've had out there, he really does look like an elite CF sometimes. Mediocre = below average btw.

Just once I'd like to see him make the Republicans actually filibuster when they threaten to. Say what you want about Pelosi and not liking her (I don't) but her caucus is whipped into shape and she'd probably be a better Senate leader than Reid is. And although sometimes she is a political liability, when the president needs votes she gets them.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 09:32 PM) Release those names! I could write a book about all the crap I had to deal with in high school when I worked at Blockbuster for 2 years. Did you ever have the thing I said used to happen earlier in this thread? When I worked at BBV? The worst came from repeat offenders, cheap ass people who would get all pissy about late fees etc. or try to get over using coupons. There is a woman (whose name I still remember) that would always come in with like 5 coupons. I'd tell her she couldn't use them all and I'd recommend the best possible combination to save the most money, but she'd always accuse me of lying and start ranting about how the customer is always right etc. I'd try to explain to her that what I'm trying to say is printed on the bottom of the coupon, that the computer wouldn't even accept the scan if I tried, letting her see what exactly my computer screen says, telling her that if she could do what she wanted then I'd actually owe her $2.00, etc. but to no avail. She'd always want to talk to the manager on duty. Eventually when I got an orange shirt to sell DirecTV I'd just start lying and saying I was actually the manager. I still remember my store/employee # by heart so I just say it out loud when I go to a Blockbuster I've never been to before instead of going in my wallet.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 07:27 PM) The thing is, most pitchers are bad at hitting because they haven't had to focus on it at all. If they made the same rules for both leagues, I'd much rather see pitchers hit than have the DH. You ever noticed that in Little League, high school etc. the pitcher always seems to also be the best hitter on the team? Then by the time they go pro that just goes to s*** although some of them still keep it (Zambrano etc.)

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 09:10 PM) Um, ok, I got it now. Shut up!?!?! I lol'd a little, I took it as him just asking not-so-nicely for a mea culpa

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 09:52 PM) Gaining weight up to 400 lbs and eventually pleading guilty to allowing one of his brothers to apply for a motorcycle drivers' license using his ID? That would be f***ing hilarious.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 08:35 PM) As south park clearly stated... if it wasn't for us pro-war people, America would be viewed as a bunch of pussies. However, as south park also stated, if it wasn't for you anti-war people, America would be viewed as a bunch of mad, gun crazy assholes. It actually is a perfect balance. Quit saying things that make sense, this isn't the BearSox I know.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 08:10 PM) The funny thing is that if it is really the continued pressures of being one of the main targets of the national democrats, they just screwed themselves, because Palin winning the GOP nomination would have been the best possible thing to ever happen to them winning again in 2012. lol believe me the average liberal knows this, just read Huffpo comments.

Although I'm sure many don't realize it, today is a good day to be a Republican. She is popular among the base but she lost virtually all her support with independents. Given that the GOP hasn't really developed a coherent strategy to broaden their base other than banking on Obamas failure, she very well may have gotten the nomination and gotten destroyed in the general (its not easy to take down an incumbent unless he is really unpopular).

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 06:02 PM) There are 2 ways it makes sense to me. She's facing some sort of investigation for something she actually did and she's ducking and covering first so that others take the blame, or she's going to declare for the Alaskan Senate Seat primary. Otherwise, this is very odd. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 06:04 PM) For the latter, I SERIOUSLY don't see how resigning helps that AT ALL. The ® in the primary can just hold against her that she hadn't gone more than 2.5 years in to her run as governor, and likely won't last as Sen (2012). I'm with bmags on the 2nd. It makes such an easy attack line.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 05:10 PM) Interesting that once we start winning and are within 2.5 games of the Tigers we see a beat writewr clamoring to get rid of players, specifically BA. Perhaps Mr. Cowley did not pay attention the last 30 games or so. Brian has the talent and ability and is now showing the maturity to make a posiitve difference for this team. I've been as big a proponent of "the Sox should stop screwing around with Anderson and let him get extended playing time so we can see what he is once and for all." He's gotten more playing time than he ever has so far (although Ozzie is still doing more matchup crap with BA than I'd like) but he's hitting .234. If he was hitting .270 or higher, the job would be his.

What do you want it changed to?

Oh and I'm joining the "this is really f***ing odd" crowd.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 03:53 PM) Yep, I see the Dems taking a play from the GOP playbook on Hillary and keep repeating she's the GOP front runner, etc. How embarrassing if they do. Hillary *WAS* the front runner...? It took months and months for Obama to finally overtake her and even then he never was that far ahead of her.

The best Cuban pitching prospect, Aroldis Chapman, defected
lostfan replied to Cubano's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 01:17 PM) I don't believe that is true. These are international free agents, not players selected in the amatuer draft. I believe the Sox have control over Alexei through 2011 and Viciedo through 2012. Someone on this board said this before, I don't remember who it was. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 01:08 PM) My guess is he gets 5/$40 million or so...teams are going to want him locked up for a bit in case it takes him a year or so to break into the Majors, but not too long to where they are saddled with him forever in case he doesn't ever harness that stuff. Wouldn't they still have control over him for 6 years? The Sox still have Alexei and Viciedo for the standard 6 years. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 01:05 PM) You know what? I don't. Usually we're in a pennant race with 50-75% of the teams in our division. Sometimes I get a little tired of the Royals, but really, the when you're in a race with Cleveland, Minny, or Detroit, those 18 games against them are usually good games that I actually like paying attention to. If the Royals ever get out of the doghouse, ditto them. The only thing that annoys me a bit is how a team like the Cubs gets to convince itself that it's really good by fattening up on the Pirates. And that's just because I don't like seeing the Cubs win. I should've phrased that differently. I LOVE divisional games. I hate 18-19 divisonal games. 12, or even 15, would be much better IMO.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 12:59 PM) Plus, if you did that, you'd definitely have to make the rules the same in both leagues. Either get rid of the DH or have pitchers bat. And if it meant have pitchers bat, I might be a fan of it. Why? It'd make things even, how is that different from what you originally said?
