QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 09:07 PM) She is racially mixed I believe. I know. Race-transcendent meaning she doesn't just appeal to black guys, white guys, etc.

Memo to 2006 Cardinals: f*** YOU for winning it all that year, now every fanbase of a mediocre maybe-contending team will bring this up every time the discussion of an average team making the playoffs comes up and railroad the conversation every single time no matter the topic or reason for the team's mediocrity. The 2006 Cardinals were a fluke, World Series winners typically aren't .500 ballclubs.

Um he is talking like he's oblivious to the fact that they raised prices (in a s***ty economy to boot), and especially with that Dodgers series.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 08:22 PM) Black people sure do love their Halle Berry, don't they?... I haven't met a single black person who doesn't think Halle Berry isn't the sexiest woman ever. I agree, she's very sexy, but she wouldn't be my first choice. Halle's pretty race-transcendent IMO. I've been in love with her since I was old enough to like girls.

Here's mine: QUOTE (lostfan @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 02:27 PM) I don't think anything is "wrong" with Kenny Williams per se. I think he's just an average GM who caught lightning in a bottle in 2005 when the entire pitching staff pitched out of their minds, and it took a while for it to catch up with him. And also just plain bad luck plays a role. Not too asshatical of a statement, just a more-than-usual pessimistic tone considering it was during the 2007 offseason. I still believe it. Kenny's not a particularly special GM, just an aggressive one who had the stars (fortunately) align for him perfectly one year. Having a s*** season in 2007 wasn't entirely his fault, either (Erstad signing and subsequent starting job notwithstanding).

The people who employ them (although not in all cases, I'm sure) do so happily because they can pay them s*** wages and get away with it, and occupational safety is not a concern. Don't like it? Tough s***. Go back to Mexico/Guatemala/Honduras/wherever.

White Sox Acquire RP Tony Pena from ARI for Brandon Allen

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 08:10 PM) We owe them for TCQ and setting Chris Young up financially for life? lol, the Chris Young contract is totally their own doing. He wasn't batting .196 when we traded him. But yeah this would be about the only logical explanation I can think of right now. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 08:08 PM) Interesting. That might be the last thing I expected to get is a reliever. I am curious to hear the book on the guy. Career ERA of 4.08, WHIP of 1.29, this year's WHIP 1.53 and .295 avg... um I'm really not seeing what Kenny's trying to do here. -

I don't get it. -
My Facebook news feed was blowing up this afternoon. I put up a status asking them if they were all unemployed.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 07:46 PM) Just wow. http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=hj111-5 I do see one thing about this - let's see if you all catch it as well. This isn't new, I don't think it ever even made it out of committee.

Who, the illegals? What's their alternative?
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 07:40 PM) Except it's not legal, it's turning a blind eye. Modern-day slavery is probably a better description.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 07:39 PM) I have no problem with it being a work program, but I have a problem with it being a work program that doesn't eventually offer a path to citizenship. That's the indentured servitude part. "You want to form a union? You want better wages? You don't want your hands falling off? You want the doors to the bathroom unlocked? Screw you, you're fired, back to Mexico with you." You have to give them a path to citizenship so that eventually they earn the way out of that. The weird thing though...you just opposed that. The proposal as discussed last time Bush brought it up would have been to come forwards, register, pay a fine, and if you stay with your employer or stay here legally for long enough, you can then earn citizenship. But you just dismissed the proposal as discussed last time. I thought Bush's plan was a fair compromise that was about as close as you can get to taking all of the realities into account. It wasn't even partisan politics that killed it, just people unwilling to compromise.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 07:38 PM) The "DEM DURN MES-I-CANS IS TAKIN MUH JOBS!!!!111" crowd can pound sand. They have BETTER opportunities to make themselves better, if they choose to. IMO the current situation is basically legalized slavery.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 07:33 PM) Instead we are going to bankrupt our social programs by making them all citizens, and giving them free retirement and social security. That's a pretty nice slap in the face to the generations who have actually followed our laws. I don't know the exact numbers but a lot of illegals still do pay taxes.
-
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 07:29 PM) Did I say that? No but you did trigger a train of thought in my head. The "pay a fine" deal comes from the fact that illegal immigration is a crime and there has to be a penalty associated with it, but at the same time there is no immigration reform possible without doing something about the millions of illegals already here. Ideally, yeah, you'd just boot them out, but that can't happen. Another option is giving them legal status and letting them work here (guest worker program etc.) but then that gets the "DEM DURN MES-I-CANS IS TAKIN MUH JOBS!!!!111" crowd's panties in a bunch so that kind of kills the compromise. I had no issues with the reform package Bush was trying to get passed but it got killed because of simple politics.
-
Sending all the illegals back to Mexico is nothing more than a fantasy and I'm really wondering why people still actually talk about it like it's something that can actually be done.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 06:02 PM) Meghan Fox is sexy, but overrated. She's more of a f***ing crazy one night chick than a chick you'd actually want to date. Is she overrated? Of course she is. And her tattoos are hideous IMO. But she is still gorgeous even if she can't compete with the love of my life (Halle Berry).

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 04:32 PM) Paris Hilton and Megan Fox should never be in the same conversation. Ever. ^^ can't believe I forgot to comment on this. My god.
-
QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 04:25 PM) Pardon me for aiming for better game. Seriously, it's amazing that as cocky as most guys are, they'd settle for anything. For example, any guy who find Paris Hilton "hot" is a sad soul to me. I'm not saying Fox isn't "hot," but too skanky and there's some REAL gorgeous women in Hollywood. Eh, "hot" is overrated anyway. Like I said... I'm sure you've banged more attractive women... right? (I've banged women more attractive than Paris Hilton but that's beside the point.)

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 02:33 PM) Tomorrow morning will be 4:05:06 07/08/09 Actually 12:34:56 07/08/09 Oh and 07/08 can either read July 8 or 7 August.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 04:11 PM) Do you think if he REALLY wanted to do something, he could have put the pressure on Congress in one of his primetime news confrences or the like? Of all the things he has tried to get done, he has made a very clear public campaign for, including ones that take Congressional action. Gays in the military is obviously not that important to him right now, or he would have put it out there in a very public manner. I've posted on this before. He has a bunch of other priorities that he has to push first. This one will eventually come and just has to wait its turn. I was under the assumption that he didn't want to spend political capital doing it and all he had to do was sign a new executive order but it's much more complicated than that, although there's ways for him to subvert that if he wanted. His list of priorities, from January to about the fall looks something like: Economy/financial regulation National security/foreign policy Healthcare reform (which, if he succeeds, probably will define this term) Immigration reform (next up and actually might succeed this time) Environmental legislation (Congress doing it on their own) ...modifying policy on gays in the military

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 04:09 PM) no way. WAY to skanky. Anne Hathaway... oh yea! If you are in the position to turn down women of Megan Fox's caliber (or have banged hotter women), I envy you. However, I wish she'd realize she is to be looked at and not listened to. STFU Megan.
