  1. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 08:23 PM) Oh my god, please tell me you are joking. I am so freaking sick of that argument. You put the best lineup out there, period, regardless of position. His value defensively? What's untrue about that statement? Plus defense 2B is better than plus defense in LF and I'm pretty sure that's what Thunderbolt was getting at.
  2. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 08:27 PM) whoa now, you make it seem like we're moving Nix out there permanently. Right now his best role is as the utility guy. He'll mostly play 2B vs. lefties, but if he shows he can hit more consistently, we'll get him spot starts at SS, 3B, LF and maybe even RF. The funny thing is, he has hit his best after not seeing live pitching for a week, and when he gets consistent starts, that's when he starts to not hit the ball. Very odd. But he does have a lot of upside on O. I haven't actually said anything. I don't mind him being moved around to get playing time, etc. But having Nix in LF is like having the 2005 Uribe in LF, I don't think it's crazy to say I like him better as a middle infielder.
  3. I just come to check out the game and I see Danks walked 4 in a row to start the game, what in the f***?
  4. Reading through this and I think so far Jordan4Life is probably the most spot-on.
  5. Above average left fielder? This was actually posted?
  6. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 07:27 PM) everyone takes things out on Walk, but really so many of these guys are apparently doing their own thing. You never hear about a really detailed compliment of how Walk has helped. As a corollary , i dont think we should blame him as violently as we sometimes do either. Please god no replies to this post
  7. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 07:22 PM) There's many reasons to like Nix. His upside is crazy high, his glove is very special. The only thing that's been holding him back for years is if he can actually hit a baseball. I've said that for a long time here. I liked him more than Getz in ST when they were battling out, though I still think you need a real player like Getz on your team. I mean Nix has a .740+ ops and he's only hitting like .230, that how much upside he COULD have. In ST I kind of thought it was a push, I'd heard Nix was a plus defender but damn after actually getting to watch him, he is absolutely just f***ing fantastic out there. And not in the Alexei flashy style either, more like the "HOLY s***, DID YOU JUST SEE THAT" style. I really hope one day he becomes at least a league average hitter, his ceiling is actually higher than that but I doubt if he ever reaches that high. And it's no knock on Getz, I like Getz and think he could potentially be pretty decent once he develops.
  8. I like Nix so much better as an infielder. More than Getz actually, if Nix could actually hit (he hasn't really proved he can't FWIW).
  9. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 07:09 PM) This is a fantastic idea, Getz is a guy whose skillsets could match very well with some of Podsednik's strengths. It really is, and if Getz could match Pods's production in his better years while playing 2B, that's just gravy.
  10. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 06:48 PM) Eh, reasoning like that is why so many congressman get re-elected. What's Durbin done that shows him be unfit for re-election? That's what I'm trying to say. I like him.
  11. I never knew Emmett Till was buried in Chicago. I need to go sit in the corner now.
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 04:38 PM) Special K, not many teams have 5 good starters. This is really true actually. The average ERA for a 5th starter is probably something like 5.25. Basically all a 5th starter has to do is not be horrible.
  13. QUOTE (The Critic @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 05:38 PM) Am I the only one that really wanted to ask if anyone thinks this is the first time she's been struck by a ball? I've never met her, so unfortunately I can't attest to that. If I had the answer would surely have been no.
  14. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 05:38 PM) Agree with you on Kenny. I don't expect him to deal anyone but I would like him to get something for Dotel. Dumping Linebrink is a longshot, but I'd definitely be in favor of it if we could. Trading Dotel makes perfect sense. I wouldn't expect a huge return but surely you'd get something.
  15. QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 05:38 PM) In the names of Douglas, Simon, and Dirksen, what has happened to the Illinois Senators? Durbin really isn't that bad... and I've actually called on him directly before, and he's helped me out. Well, his staff, same thing.
  16. I thought most of this was already known? Or maybe it just sounds so damn similar to other stuff that came out.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 05:29 PM) There is a scary thought, and Death is not an option... Roland Burris or Alan Keyes as your Senator... I will say that is one spot where Indiana can LOL at a lot of states. Bayh and Lugar are a very impressive pair. I think Lugar is awesome. I thought you hated Bayh?
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 05:23 PM) He's an Italian politician. I've always liked him, he's kind of a tool. He reminds me of Joe Biden.
  19. I could see trading one, MAYBE two of these relievers depending on the return since it's in a position of strength, but not dumping the whole bullpen. That just doesn't make any sense, the point in acquiring major league talent is to use it, not to trade it. Sure, Kenny is aggressive, but that's not his MO, he doesn't make trades to maximize value, he makes trades to acquire needs. If he can fill one of those needs by dumping a couple RP's so be it, but he's not going to trade them all.
  20. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 05:07 PM) i must be the only one who remembers alan keyes vs. Obama in the senate race. Well, honestly that's the first time I've ever heard anyone use "Alan Keyes" and "intelligent" in the same sentence.
  21. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 01:28 PM) <!--quoteo(post=1943478:date=Jul 9, 2009 -> 11:13 PM:name=kapkomet)-->QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 11:13 PM) <!--quotec--> Now what's even funnier - you can tell Obama is just trying to walk around to pose for the pictures. But look at Sarkozy. He's starting at that lady. Silvio Berlusconi would have been all over that. bahahaha I knew Berlusconi was bad but not THAT bad. That's my kinda guy.
  22. QUOTE (mreye @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 03:49 PM) Nice Renaissance Man reference. I didn't think anybody would get it. Ironically that movie is probably the closest to what boot camp is actually like of all the movies I've seen.

I wouldn't say it's easy or hard, you just have to know people, be in the right place at the right time, be patient etc. just like with any other job.
  24. Am I the only one that really really wanted to make a joke about how I wished it was me hitting her with a ball etc.?
