You have a point, but I don't think sites like Freep even need the MSM. That's becoming a whole new media form in and of itself. Which I kind of like, and I kind of hate. On the Internet objectivity is completely optional and not everybody has the ability to evaluate sources. So you have groups of people that tend to flock to where they want to go and that's the only place they ever bother to get information from.

Well, all politicians "quit" when they get elected to a higher office than the one they're currently holding, it's a pretty commonly accepted thing to do. We had a discussion on this several months back I think. But Palin's decision to resign seemed bizarre and out of the blue because it was unprecedented. To my knowledge, nobody's ever resigned a position like that in the middle of their term unless they had gotten in trouble or were about to be in trouble (which partially explains baseless speculation that she was under federal investigation).

QUOTE (YASNY @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 06:09 PM) An "upcoming" book deal and speaking fees she didn't have the freedom to do, while having $500K in legal fee debt. Not much income coming in as governor. As I said, she probably had to resign for financial reasons, among others. I don't know for sure that she actually owes 500k out of her own pocket but in any case Levi Johnston was saying the same thing about her doing it for financial reasons (I try to ignore the back-and-forth between them, honestly, I'm guilty of clicking a link here and there though).

QUOTE (YASNY @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 06:04 PM) Oh really? How do you know that? The same reasons you just said. Her upcoming book deal, you can figure that to be a couple million right there (Obama got rich doing the same thing) and then the various 50k speaking fees she can charge now where she didn't have the freedom to do it as Gov.

QUOTE (YASNY @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 06:01 PM) There's another way to look at this too. She's racked up $500K in legal fees defending herself against frivilous ethics charges brought on by the liberal hit squads. She couldn't effectively represent the people of Alaska while fighting all that crap. She also probably couldn't fanancially afford to remain in office because of that. She'll now get out on the speaker circuit, like Bill Clinton, and make a decent living. Decent living? She's financially set for life.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 04:45 PM) http://www.ethicalplanet.com/livemousetrap.html I don't really have any control over that actually, I think they used a spring trap last time. I'm actually not big on killing animals and insects unless they get in my way. I've never had mice at home but that's because I have 2 cats and the older one is a straight up murderer. She'll happily slaughter a mouse and leave it to die in the middle of the floor.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 04:41 PM) Where the hell do you work? Mrs O'Leary's barn? It found its way into my office somehow. It's a little baby mouse.

So there is a tiny little mouse that keeps running under my desk. I'm not really scared of mice, but it's annoying and I don't like to be near them.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 01:11 PM) I guess Obama should just quit if his family is being treated like this. lol. Zing!

This fantastically incoherent rant has to be read to be believed. http://bighollywood.breitbart.com/vjackson...ss/#more-178482

I think I called YASNY a hippie liberal Cubs fan once just to see what he'd do but I don't think he saw it.

In the current direction this thread is (or was) going, which of the following apply or do not apply? Obviously it's subjective but I know it when I see it. I let most things ride but sometimes I have to throw the flag. It doesn't mean I'm targeting anyone either. Everyone just smile and nod.

There was nothing "wrong" per se but both of you are toeing the line like I said (it looks a whole lot like subtle mocking). I just want to derail that path before it gets there.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 11:27 AM) Sorry. I'll just start making posts like this one: He can say that if he wants, there's no rules against that. People have made worse/less substantive posts.

BigSqwert, be nice, you're toeing the line of the Filibuster rules.

I couldn't care less about the gender, if Sarah was Steve and we were still playing Russian roulette with an intellectual lightweight it'd be the same thing.

This is what I'd have to say to the Metrodome, then and now. Emphasis on the chorus at about :20

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 11:50 PM) If only some admin would get off of his ass and do something about the scourge that is lostfan. Lazy Soxtalk Admins. And those pieces of s*** promoted him to a mod too? What was that about? -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 11:45 PM) Knowing Kenny Williams, nothing will remain that static Yeah I was going to say that. No way all of our prospects break in at the majors with the Sox.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 09:50 PM) I just got the lowdown from a Twins fan. He's not getting his number retired. They induct some crappy Twins player into their Hall of Fame every year. And I did not mean Cooperstown worthy, I meant Twins Hall of Fame worthy, lol. Yeah that would be different then. -

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 09:30 PM) An ERA+ of 112 is not that great... You're 12% better than league average. Woohoo! Not hall of fame worthy. You don't need to be Hall of Fame-worthy to have your number tired. Just a good player that was important to the franchise and a fan favorite. I don't really understand why fans of other teams make a big deal out of this all the time. -

This is all subjective and it's entirely up to the fanbase. There is probably a pretty good chance we'll retire Buehrle and Konerko's numbers when they're done. Are those guys Hall of Famers? No. They mean a whole lot to us fans though. Fans of other teams don't appreciate them nearly as much as we do. -
I think it's fine to say that we've been disappointed because we expected more from him, but it's not really time to start waving red flags on him yet.
