  1. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 10:01 AM) Lets get a laugher for once. I can't handle the stress anymore. Wasn't exactly a laugher, and it was pretty stressful, but I'm sure nobody's complaining about that! QUOTE (WSoxMatt @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 10:09 AM) I hope Buehrle goes deep as we have a DH tomorrow and Im sure Thornton is unavaliable tonight...Jenks also has thrown 30+ pitches 2 of the past 3 games Well? Good enough?
  2. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 07:14 PM) Between a no hitter, a home run, a perfect game, and a save in the WS, he's kind of the king of the unexpected. I fully expect his next trick to be a home run in this year's WS. So should this homer be a walkoff, or a grand slam to give the Sox the lead?
  3. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 05:55 PM) I am not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but the ONLY way someone catches Kapler's ball in the 9th is if they are left handed. There is no possible way someone can make that play with their left hand being the glove hand... Maybe it was meant to be.... It's been mentioned and I actually don't understand how people assume this. In the position that Wise was in, no, but he is left handed obviously and has no reason to be in any other position. A right handed player jumps, his arm is closer to the ball and his glove is turned backwards from the way Wise's was, but they wouldn't have their palm open the way Wise did either. The glove would've been there but the basket would more or less be in the same position. It's not something that's easy to do but catching a ball over the yellow line is already hard to do.
  4. QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 05:32 PM) You too!! Can't give Wise a break for a little while! booooo haters!!! Yea WISE!!!! lol. I didn't hate. In fact I actually made a semi pro-Wise post just before that.
  5. QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 05:23 PM) Man, thinking of all the reasons that this is such a big moment in MLB history and especially for us White Sox fans, the fact that our President is a Sox fan just entered my mind again, lol. I wonder if someone at the White House press corps is going to ask this later on... lol
  6. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 05:18 PM) He get's a break today, that catch was incredible, but he needs to contribute in other areas. No one gets a free pass, not even today. I wanted to say this but I would have felt like such a dick amid all the euphoria.
  7. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 05:16 PM) how does one do that? Download Helper add-on for Firefox. You can save pretty much anything that way.
  8. QUOTE (Big Daddy Kool @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 05:05 PM) 9th inning http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JoqnE0m588I youtube I am sure will take this down shortly I'm saving the video before Youtube does that.
  9. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 05:04 PM) Not sure if anyone has brought this up, but Hawk's call was almost like "Don't you dare screw this up Alexei!" I thought it was pretty funny. "ALEXEIIIII...!!!" It was almost like he was yelling at a cat to stay off the kitchen table. Funny.
  10. By the way I am, for the time being at least, happy with DeWayne Wise... something just doesn't feel right about this.
  11. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 05:01 PM) Podsednik's homer is way up there for me. #1 for me is Hester's opening kickoff for a TD. At one point in the game the Bears led that game by a TD. Then the game stopped and nothing else happened. At least that's what I remember.
  12. I f***ing love Mark Buehrle. If you don't, you should be shot.
  13. f*** it I'll go ahead and open the can of worms since I don't have anything else better to do and we were just on the subject of dicking around or questionable decisions... anyone remember the last time a Sox pitcher took a no-hitter into the 9th? Who was on the bench? How'd that turn out? In a perfect game going into the 9th today Pods plays the first 8 innings and Wise plays the last one. Wise > Pods in the field, result, perfect game. Just... you know... saying.
  14. QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 04:41 PM) Did Buehrle throw the last AL no-hitter, too? Verlander I think. I'm so pissed I missed the end of this, I got a text from my cuz.
  15. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 03:12 PM) Texsox and Steff are the best Mafia Wars peeps. ...
  16. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 03:25 PM) If we qualify it this way, then Borchard was robbed. Mike Caruso may have been robbed. When do you quit on a guy? never? They pay these guys tons, and the org has to move on to the next good idea before the team suffers too much Quitting on a guy? I'm not talking about that at all and I watered that question down too far for the sake of mass consumption. I'm talking about things like starting old and s***ty players over him after he wins the job over said old and s***ty player in ST. There wasn't really much doubt going into this year that he was close to out of chances with this organization.
  17. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 03:05 PM) There's a difference between complaining about the umps and scapegoating the umps. After the Sox took the lead, the Rays announcers didn't say a f'n thing about Upton's inability to read a routine fly ball or Bartlett's error that same inning. At least Hawk has the stones to call out his own players. I haven't disagreed on that point. Actually there was a game a week or two ago where Danks was pitching, and struggling a bit, and I actually thought Hawk was being kind of harsh.
  18. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 03:14 PM) Would you say this year that in situations (especially recently, which sadly is what counts on this earth...what-have-you-done-for-me-lately)......... Wise has delivered in recent weeks, whereas BA in his last consistent stretch of getting on the field was mired in a slump? "delivered" meaning at least a little. which is the most we can hope from these guys with the bat. The thing is i think you throw batting out because these guys arent going to play much. It's defense vs. PR for the most part. I figured maybe I was missing something so I looked at the stats but Wise hit .190 in June and .207 in July...?
  19. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 03:10 PM) You're kidding right? There's already several comments on here clearly stating or directly implying that Ozzie screwed him up. I'm done with it FOREVER. Just trade him and make it go away. True or false (the fact that he currently sucks notwithstanding, and this question is to be read at face value): During the course of his development and with the benefit of hindsight, there are points where the Sox, specifically Ozzie, should have done things differently. Also true or false: Soxtalk posters almost unanimously agree that Anderson isn't the answer at CF anymore.
  20. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 03:05 PM) I think that makes my point perfectly. And yes I remember you being kind of anti-both in the past. But what we have is a modest gap between BA defense and Wise defense. A modest gap some might say between Wise and BA running, taking a base in the 9th. So we are choosing between two modest gaps. I agree with you. That's why I wouldnt be up in arms if BA was the choice, but why I think it's hilarious that people treat the recent roster move that DID happen as if it were Madoff The Sequel. The gap between Wise and BA on the basepaths is slightly in favor of Wise (Anderson is fast, Wise is faster) The gap in hitting between Wise and BA is slightly in favor of BA (this year, and going back to the end of last year) The gap in fielding favors BA (not really sure how this is debatable) The gap in plate discipline substantially favors BA (BA learned how to draw walks, Wise gets walked when the pitcher throws 4 balls at him) The gap in "clutch hitting" or "doing the little things" is either a push or slightly favors Wise - both are terrible fundamental players and I'd hate to have to rely on either to deliver for me ...all of the above considered I don't see how the advantage Wise offers on the basepaths outweighs everything else. At the end of the day we have a choice between below average player and one who doesn't belong on most MLB rosters.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 03:04 PM) Is it possible to think that yes, he's right and he might do well if he had a legit, long term shot where he was treated as the starter and had legit major work with a pitching coach...and he's also done absolutely nothing to deserve that shot and I can't figure out why any team out there would give it to him? No, your first sentence means you're a BA fanboy right out of the gate.
  22. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 03:00 PM) And still, the BA apologists remain resolute. Just trade him already KW, so we can get a semblance of realism back on this board! What the hell? Who's apologizing for BA? Even he isn't apologizing for himself. God damn do I hate any topic having to do with Anderson and this is exactly why.
  23. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 02:56 PM) I personally think pegging Wise as a bad defensive player is a creation of these boards. In close games, PR matters more than the difference in defense between Wise and BA. That skill is more likely to lead to a win. If Wise was a bad CF, I would agree with you guys. I dont think he is, however. We always hear about how bad he is there but the evidence lacks. Our bench does not have fast IFs. We need the PR skills. And I think the implication that Anderson can't run well enough to be a PR is a creation of people that don't like him (in these arguments, people pretend to have never read my previous posts, but for the record I've said several times that Wise isn't as bad a CF as he is made out to be). He can't run as well as Wise but he can run. It's not like we're talking about Jermaine Dye here.
  24. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 02:53 PM) I've been listening to Hawk whine about questionable calls for 27 years, but I've never heard him squarely blame an ump for a loss on a questionable ball/strike call AFTER Sox players committed two bone-headed defensive plays in that same inning that CLEARLY cost them the game. You're narrowing the window so tight that nothing can fit in. Of course he's never done EXACTLY that. But he does complain about the umps, show replays, unnecessarily complain about a call later in the game and pretty clearly imply that it's the umps' fault the Sox are in whatever situation they're in.
  25. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 02:46 PM) If people are saying its a huge crime that he was sent down, they are implying that he's near starting material. If we all agree he's a defensive replacement OF, then there should be no crime that a team would keep a PR for him. People are saying he should be starting somewhere else. Well we've had an opening at his position for awhile now. If he cant get it done here, it wont happen in the NL either. No, they're implying that DeWayne Wise is terrible at baseball. If you really want a DeWayne Wise type of player, every organization probably has about 5 of them in their farm system. No, Brian has NOT stepped up and claimed the job. But Wise has, by being demonstrably worse?
