  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 03:07 PM) Thank god. That is one less horrible argument to be had here.
  2. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 03:01 PM) perhaps the f'n link could add some insight! PERHAPS If I could read it.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 02:55 PM) Which is exactly where some of us think the racial component winds up coming in to this. I don't actually think this was a case of racial profiling at all. Gates lost his keys and was trying to force his door open, one of his neighbors thought it looked like a burglary. Crowley responded and Gates said "WTF, this is my house" and wouldn't show ID at first. Crowley can't exactly accept that at face value. However, once Gates was identified as legit, Crowley should've dropped it, but Gates was pissed off and wouldn't let it go. So Crowley took him in for disorderly conduct. Wrong answer.
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 02:55 PM) Honestly Y2HH what you are claiming right now can be compared to someone saying you can't believe pictures because photoshop exists. i had a friend tell me this once when I got a tattoo, she didn't believe me, I showed her a picture as proof and she said she still didn't believe me because I could've photoshopped it.
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 02:53 PM) but because something CAN BE MANIPULATED does not mean it IS. That's why science journals have standards for what they publish, that's why margin of error must be reported, that's why the set of questioning used is documented, that's why who is funding IS FORCED TO BE REPORTED. ^^
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 02:43 PM) lol. Heck, maybe I can try to get him to call me stupid. I'd love a free trip to Washington, oh and a free beer! You'd have to get me invited too, preferably after rush hour though.
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 02:46 PM) did you guys read the link? No I can't at work, for some reason my browser doesn't load Sullivan's site. I have to wait until I get home. I only commented just now because I don't think there's been any discussion on it in here so far and I was following what NSS said.
  8. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 02:42 PM) I don't know how they got their data -- or what data of their overall collection of data was used, or where it came from, or who it came from. I've heard of polls my entire life...you know how many times I or someone I know has been polled in relation to any of this? Zero. lol are you saying polls are completely made up? How was Nate Silver able to predict 49 of 50 states for the 2008 election (missing Indiana by just a couple of points) after adjusting the various models and combining them?
  9. Gates was acting like a dickhead and honestly kind of created that situation. It seems to me that the cop failed to exercise common sense though. Taking him in for disorderly conduct wasn't necessarily "wrong" but it didn't lead down any productive path. He should've just been professional and let Gates be a dickhead and get it out of his system instead of trying to "teach him a lesson" or whatever he thought he was doing. Obama should've punted that question or gave a standard political answer (there is a reason those exist). He's someone you think would know better.
  10. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 02:25 PM) Everything done in the last 5 years is 1300 pages, it's how you sneak the pork through. I think it's become a requirement now, no matter how new or old it is. Pork is another issue entirely.
  11. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 02:18 PM) Everyone here is smart enough to know polls can be manipulated to show exactly what you want. The two links I posted say enough, too. But let's ignore those, after all, they weren't in a neat graphic. And while yes, it's been a "topic of reform", this current reform is ALL NEW, and they're trying their hardest to shove it through whether it's ready or not, and I think that's the big mistake. Pushing law/reform before filling in all the cracks is just crazy as far as I'm concerned. It's just asking people to come out of the woodwork to leech the system dry. No the topic is not new. It's been attempted before and failed, and put on the back burner. Why do you suppose the document is 1300 pages?
  12. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 01:59 PM) You call that actual evidence? A graphic? You guys are hilarious. I can post some articles where Daley claims his hiring practices are fair, too. Or that he wasn't involved in any back room deals in streets and san or land management contracts going to relatives/friends. Doesn't mean they're true just because someone printed them or drew up an official looking graphic in his defense. Back on point -- my father is a veteran -- the VA sucks, I know this FIRST hand...I have no willingness to proove myself right, either. Find yourself a veteran and talk to them rather than asking me to do it for you. Somewhere in this thread you gave a de facto admission that you're willing to call bulls*** on just about anything meaning you can't be convinced by anything anyone post. Someone posted the 8-page New Yorker article which was written by a Harvard-educated surgeon and just about the most comprehensive single piece I've seen, and you pretty much threw the bulls*** flag saying you couldn't be sure the source was credible. In response, you give anecdotal accounts. I'd say NorthsideSox (who is not exactly a liberal activist screaming for a government takeover of healthcare) has a point.
  13. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 10:25 AM) I don't think ANYONE has said otherwise. But, government take over of health care is not the way to go, period. And my prediction of what would happen appears to be happening... I said somewhere back in this thread that the "compromise" would be that they take the "government option" off the table, in name only, and would pass rules that would force insurance companies to do exactly what they say anyway - which is the same thing, but taking this "option" off the table to make it look like they're compromising. I said it was a trojan horse, and sure enough, it looks that is exactly what is happening in the "senate agreement". Frankly, it's still government takeover of health care, now they're just changing the packaging of it. I want to see the entire industry somehow forced to change from its current model. It's going to piss some people off, I know, but they can't really see what's happening and they don't care because it's not like there will be mass layoffs in the industry. But someone needs to tell them that choosing profitability over overall quality and long-term sustainability is not a smart thing to do. If they don't believe it, have them go ask GM how that worked out. Except GM actually had to answer to consumers.
  14. QUOTE (rangercal @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 10:43 AM) I have a great deal of respect for AJ myself. Yesterday is a red flag to me. I don't really mind him mouthing off to the other team, but leave White Sox players alone (especially in public) . Red flag? I don't recall you trying to chase Dye out of town when he got in Cabrera's face last year. This is barely a blip on the radar, and frankly I'm glad someone did it. I'm getting tired of Alexei's constant brain farts.
  15. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 11:22 AM) He wanted to buy land? I don't recall that. I do think he wanted something much more focused, but as you said, it got Congressed into a steaming pile of garbage. Not buying land, the concept Steve was pointing out (getting to the root of the problem, doing something focused that would have a long-term impact).
  16. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 11:13 AM) Wait, so you're saying the federal government should have applied the funding to the root of the problem in America versus just throwing tons of money in all directions and praying it worked? I don't see logic behind that. lol. That's what Obama originally wanted to do but he let Congress write the legislation. We ended up getting a messy pile of s***f***.
  17. The point I was trying to make is that there is a pretty general consensus that something is wrong and at the very least we need to change a lot of rules.
  18. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 10:07 AM) The birth certificate issue? Yes, I do. It's stupid. I'm allowed some kaperbole™ too from time to time.
  19. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 09:35 AM) *yawn* Maybe she was actually born in Russia? Vladivostok maybe?
  20. Post some of these sources.
  21. Has anyone ever seen Sarah Palin's birth certificate? I mean does anyone have a dated photograph and sworn statements proving she was born after Alaska became a state and she doesn't just look good for her age? Because if she was born before then, Alaska wasn't a state and she wouldn't be a natural born citizen. Making her ineligible for president, of course.
  22. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 27, 2009 -> 11:25 PM) How much cap space does Chicago have? Can they find a backup QB and DB in veteran waivers after the preseason? I don't know the exact numbers, but they are in good shape with the cap.
  23. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 27, 2009 -> 11:05 PM) This season, our CF have hit .225 with a .285 OBP and a .598 OPS. 3 HR and 20 RBI combined. How's that possible? Anderson is over .300 OBP by himself. I guess Wise and Lillibridge really are that bad.
  24. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 27, 2009 -> 10:59 PM) Tillman had back surgery. Will miss all of training camp and probably be back for the last preseason game. Again?
  25. My favorite quote from her to date: "And there was that media slant this go round," she said. "And unless things change, the GOP had really better can stand together, 'cause we got that on the battlefield also. I call it like I see it and like I lived it on the campaign trail. Not complaining, but dealing with reality."
