  1. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 27, 2009 -> 02:04 AM) FWIW, I was being totally facetious with the Wise picture. I know. Probably sounded like I was arguing, not really though.
  2. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 27, 2009 -> 01:44 AM) I still find it funny that people hate/don't like him. I mean he is what he is. If there's someone you don't like, don't like the front office/management that gives him a 25 man spot/trouts him out there. Wise is a good minor league player. Most organizations wouldn't even have a Wise up here. I don't hate him at all, it would be silly if I did. I get pissed off when I see him leading off on Opening Day and other silly s*** like that though. Or get frustrated when you see him get extended playing time and he fails miserably, same reason people hated Lillibridge.
  3. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 27, 2009 -> 01:25 AM) The goal versus Perkins and Lirano is to take pitches, they tend to pitch around the zone, and are effective only when they can make a hitter chase. Baker is a bit different, he doesn't throw many bad pitches, the idea is to take pitches the 1st go around, and get a fair assessment of his tendencies. He's very much a pitcher who relies on varying sequences and location. I don't want to be the "bad luck guy" since the last time I speculated on the near future Buehrle got lit the f*** up, but it seems like we've got Liriano figured out for now.
  4. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 27, 2009 -> 01:02 AM) Jerry Owens? Oh wait, we finally got rid of him after almost 3 years of suckage. That guy too.
  5. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 27, 2009 -> 01:08 AM) No, i think he meant this guy. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/w/wisede01.shtml Year Age Tm Lg G PA AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI SB CS BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS OPS+ TB GDP HBP SH SF IBB Pos 2009 31 CHW AL 49 114 104 8 20 6 2 1 7 2 3 3 24 .192 .236 .317 .554 42 33 0 3 4 0 0 89/7 Or this guy: 162 Game Avg. 162 346 321 41 67 14 6 9 32 13 2 15 62 .210 .250 .372 .623 58 119 4 3 6 2 1 Yeah that guy. My self-imposed hiatus is over so I can say it. Loved the catch, but the .192 average is not an anomaly.
  6. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 03:05 PM) From a business standpoint, this is an obvious move. And from a fan standpoint, I like it. Thursday night will be round 1 and take about 4 hours. Then Friday, the 2nd and 3rd round will begin late afternoon. I would prefer it if they added the 4th round as well to day 2. And then on saturday morning, they go through the final 4 rounds. Then we got Sunday to watch baseball and talk about the draft. I can't wait until they make the draft in late February or early March. The time between the superbowl and draft is just way too long. From a business standpoint they're taking the draft from Saturday when nothing else is on into a prime-time weekday slot. Now he wants to put the NFL draft up against American Idol, etc.? Why?
  7. Brought to you by the same team that insists on having a certain outfielder who shall remain nameless.
  8. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 11:12 PM) LOL! We got some nice ones on here for some of our character posters. Won't post the whole lyrics like some here, but.... Let's all bring it in for Wally, Eazy sees uncle Charlie Little Boo, God's got him and I'm gonna miss everybody I only roll with Bone my gang look to where they lay When playing with destiny, play too deep for me to say Lil' Layzie came to me, told me if he should decease well then please Bury me by my grand-grand and when you can, come follow me God bless you, working on a plan to heaven Follow the Lord all 24/7 days, God is who we praise Even though the devil's all up in my face But he keeping me safe and in my place, say grace For the case to race with a chance to face the judge And I guess my soul won't budge Grudge because there's no mercy for thugs Oh, what can I do it's all about our family and how we roll Can I get a witness? Let it unfold We living our lives to eternal our soul If anyone (I mean hip-hop fans) don't know who this is, especially considering they are my favorite rap group of all time, and half their god damn names are on the lyrics, I will drive to whatever city/state you live in, and punch you in the face. On the bolded part I was never able to understand what the f*** they were saying. It was like he was rapping with no teeth.
  9. I don't think he was really anywhere close to having that ball. I thought about it before, but he's a good couple feet away and where Wise caught it was just a few inches over the yellow line. The writer is going off about nothing though. I guess a Chicago/Bartman comparison is pretty easy.
  10. Hey guys post what songs these verses are from, I don't know them all and I'm pretty sure everybody else doesn't either.

  13. As much fun as it is watching you guys fight the only way to truly have zero negative impact on the planet is to kill yourself and then have yourself cremated and use the ashes to fertilize a garden. The best you can do is try to lower your impact. /voice of reason
  14. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 03:36 PM) very humane of you lostfan. i approve. Now if it was in my house the outcome would've been different. My cat would've murdered the s*** out of it.
  15. BigSqwert while we're on this subject you'll probably be happy to know we didn't kill that mouse that was in our office a couple of weeks ago, we trapped it in a coffee can and took it outside.
  16. QUOTE (Felix @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 11:52 PM) Haren >>>>>> Floyd I'm all for this move if it doesn't cost one of the untouchable prospects in the system (such as Flowers), which I kind of doubt. The difference between him and Floyd is massive though, and Haren would be a fantastic upgrade to our rotation. There are no untouchables in our system, the only one was Beckham.
  17. I don't know how many rap fans are on here but I'm sure there's enough. At the risk of making this thread irrelevant right off the top I nominate Eminem's verse from Renegade: Since I'm in a position to talk to these kids and they listen I ain't no politician but I'll kick it with em a minute Cuz see they call me a menace, and if the shoe fits I wear it But if it don't then y'all will swallow the truth, grin and bear it Now who's the king of these rude, ludicrous lucrative lyrics? Who could inherit the title, put the youth in hysterics? Usin' his music to steer it, sharin' his views and its merits But there's a huge interference, they're sayin' you shouldn't hear it Maybe it's hatred I spew, maybe it's food for the spirit Maybe it's beautiful music I made for you to just cherish But I'm debated, disputed, hated and viewed in America As a mothaf***in' drug addict, like you didn't experiment? Now now That's when you start to stare at who's in the mirror And see yourself as a kid again And you get embarrassed And I got nothin' to do but make you look stupid as parents You f***in' do-gooders, too bad you couldn't do good at marriage And do you have any clue what I had to do to get here? I don't think you do, so stay tuned and keep your ears glued to the stereo Cuz here we go, he's jigga jrr jigga-j-jigga And I'm the sinister, Mr. Kiss My Ass is just a...
  18. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 12:40 AM) That's true. No argument there. But there's no logic behind the argument that a guy who will be in his late 20's next year and has accomplished jack squat at the major-league level will eventually be more successful than the guy in the late 20's who has had one good 2/3 of a season at the major-league level, but is deemed to have inferior hitting mechanics. That's just illogical cheerleading. The reality is that neither of these guys have lived up to their draft positions, neither have shown that they can hit consistently enough in the bigs to warrant a spot in the Sox starting lineup, and both of their windows of opportunity are quickly closing. Agreed, and I'm a Nix fan. I have hope that Nix somehow figures it out but I'm not expecting it to happen.
  19. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 10:57 PM) Nix is going to be 28 next summer and has done nothing to distinguish himself at the ML level. Maybe he'll be the next Roy Hobbs. But his resume suggests that he'll be the next Dewayne Wise. I like Nix, but I'm not suggesting he's going to break out and start hitting .280 with 20 homers if he is an everyday player (although watching him play defense is awesome). Like you, I really like him as a utility infielder on this team. But in and of itself, the sentence I quoted from you doesn't tell you much. There could be any number of reasons he hasn't had a shot as a starter in the majors. Maybe the player was crowded out. Maybe the player got hurt in the minors. Maybe the player ran into problems in the minors and had to work on his game. Maybe he did get a shot to start with a team, performed solidly and looked like he'd get the job in spring training, then got hurt and by the time he came back he'd lost the job (hi Nix). In any case Nix has had only had 195 PAs in the majors, most of them coming this year. That's actually not many more than Gordon Beckham has had.
  20. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 10:40 PM) The fact that Nix didn't get a single major-league at-bat until last season tells you a lot about his chances of being a starter. No, actually. Doesn't really tell you much of anything.
  21. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 09:14 PM) having a closer with an era going towards 5 is a disgrace. Joe Borowski, Todd Jones
  22. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 08:59 PM) I am very humane and like you don't like to kill animals without mercy and compassion, but letting go of trapped flies is just a little much...why???? -They are not an apex species -They are not even close to being under populated -Their gestastion and generation times are VERY short meaning they can replinish VERY quickly (unlike whales or elephants) I appreciate your perspective dude, I really do...but when you talk about saving 'house flies' you won't gain any converts to your cause. Show the butchering Sarah Palin promotes and then you'' win some support, but 'common people' nor scientists are gonna join your protect the house flies agenda. One last note...Being a vegetarian (which I am not) and being opposed to hunting IS NOT about PETA...they are clowns. Flies only live like 24 or 72 hours, I forget which one, but in any case not long at all, and then you consider how many eggs they lay.
  23. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 08:28 PM) Whenever I've watched him over last 2 seasons, he never seems to be able to have a 1-2-3 inning. He's giving up leadoff hits or walks, then the runner advances to second on indifference, then he usually gets the next three guys. Like I said, he's only allowed the guys to score over the last few weeks. Bobby's WHIP of 1.10 last year says it doesn't really matter. Saying that's "struggling" isn't even hyperbole, I'd have to make up another word for that. He's been struggling in the last few weeks, yes. But not that long.
  24. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 08:07 PM) Bobby has struggled almost 75% of the time out there since 2007. He gives up a lot of leadoff hits and walks guys. He just hasn't blown the save as much until recently. ???????????????????????
