QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 22, 2009 -> 12:43 PM) Like I said, with proper rules in place it's fair -- but just blanket control over costs is stupid, you never hand a government that kind of power in a free market. Yeah, I had to re-read your post there.
-
I may have read that incorrectly, but how are cost controls against skyrocketing costs unfair? I'm going to ask my job to double my salary, since I know they have the money. When they tell me no, how would I look if I cried about how unfair it was? There's a finite amount of money to be spent and since inefficiency is one of the factors that goes into the high costs, that definitely is our problem, not theirs.

QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jun 22, 2009 -> 11:05 AM) well, if you take Fields 5 for 45 slump out of it he's hitting .262. I don't think either of them have been overly impressive yet. Beckham looks to have a nice upside but you never know. 2 years ago, Fields was looking like the real deal as well. If this comparison was to improve, it might be called a stretch.

It's a lot easier and cheaper to hire nurses than it is doctors isn't it? There are a lot of things nurses are capable of doing, and wish they could do, so I agree with that larger point.

Don't touch fire, it's hot. Also if you go outside in the rain you will get wet. -
He's not going to give you better at-bats though Ozzie. He is what he is.

QUOTE (spiderman @ Jun 22, 2009 -> 07:05 AM) ok, then what needs to be done in your view? Let's assume that Obama won't get a single payer system. How do we improve health care through cutting costs, insuring everyone (like those with pre-existing conditions)? Already gone over this somewhere in this 13-page thread and I'm too lazy to type it again.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Jun 21, 2009 -> 11:49 PM) I agree that is the negative. They also work a lot on reforms and energize their fan base. Do you think the people they turn off are then motivated to harm more animals than before? That is the only way I see them doing more harm than good. I think he means their marketing is effective, but it causes collateral damage. It's probably not the best way to go about things.

I borrowed Street Fighter 4 from a friend but I haven't gotten to play it yet.

lol. It's in a row so you'd be pushing 8 houses off the cliff. You could probably get the next row to the south in there too if you wanted.

QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Jun 20, 2009 -> 07:04 AM) My basement flooded for the first time in the 19 years I lived in my home. There goes my desktop, xbox, sub woofer, and considering i was walking in puddles down there probably the carpet as well. It was a nice surprise to come home too as I was planning on going to a party. That sucks, sorry to hear that. I don't think it's possible for my basement to flood since the back of my house is on an incline and there is a steep dropoff, big depression and a woodline behind my house.

QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 20, 2009 -> 10:02 AM) Why would I punch a punching bag with all my might when I havent ever done it before? I did this yesterday and my body crumbled to the ground. I thought they were softer and more moveable than that. I was smoking shisha just now and you just made me choke.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 21, 2009 -> 04:56 PM) Government has to legislate morality, the question is how much. At this point, I say give gay marriage policies and such to the states, let them choose what they want. Well laws are based in morality to some degree. I just don't like the government trying to effect Puritan-esque social change or dictating how people should live their lives, especially if they're not hurting anyone else. The only exception IMO is those laws that try to correct social inequality and discrimination, but you could easily make an argument that the people being discriminated against are being hurt.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 21, 2009 -> 04:34 PM) So what happens if you're doing a job where you're simultaneously using your marital fidelity as a positive aspect of your character? For example, Ensign was one of the most outspoken anti-Clintonites, lecturing on morality then. He's had stories/interviews run about him where he's talked about how he would never be in a room alone with a female member of his staff. He was a "Promise Keeper". He's staunchly opposed Gay Marriage as a threat to marriage (Maybe it was the gays getting married that caused him to...oh nevermind). Who is he to stand up and lecture someone else about sexual morality? This is one of the reasons I don't think the government should be legislating morality.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 21, 2009 -> 03:28 PM) Bye bye ballgame. That was ball one called a strike. I want to highlight how bad this post is and make a note that in the last few days, we haven't seen as many like it. That is all. -
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 21, 2009 -> 08:17 AM) Yes, they are, because the "numbers" is why they are trying to force this down our throat. Not really. The number is "a lot," we already know that. The fact that something has to be done is pretty obvious. We can argue about what needs to be done exactly all day though, since anybody that thinks everything is fine and dandy right now is delusional.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 09:16 PM) At this point, who cares? There's MUCH bigger issues the media needs to be covering. You mean like the pretty petty thing about some obscure official nobody probably even heard of that you posted in the Republican thread about an hour after this? Cmon, be consistent. Either all of the "who cares" stuff or none of the "who cares" stuff.
-
The numbers aren't important. Don't get sucked into arguing about petty crap.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 11:32 PM) You're screwed no matter what if you have a major problem. I never have, thank Obama , but even with insurance a week stay in a hospital is going to cost like $50,000 at least. With all your huffing and puffing, will YOU admit there needs to be strict cost measure like in Europe or Japan? Or do you just suggest a California like program; totally bankrupt free for all... EVERYTING FREE! WEEEE! You do know that we are basically at the limits of DEBT the feds can take on right? I think your guy Obama does.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 09:43 PM) So yeah, after watching 1 1/2 batters, I stand by my belief that Poreda's best possibility to help the Sox is as trade bait. He reminds me so much of Neal Cotts. He looks like him a little.
