  1. To be honest, they can call us whatever they want. I know a few Sox fans including myself who have called the Cubs the Chokes for decades. I think it takes more than one choke do gain that reputation however.
  2. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 12:45 PM) no im pretty sure its just MVP. In fact im positive. I'm sorry but you're positively wrong. For some reason, I can't find a great source for the rules but I did find a page about the 2003 ROY voting which follows the same rules. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2003/writ...ovan/08/20/roy/ That and I bet Curt Schilling would have gotten more than 0 votes after the whole bloody sock incident.
  3. Here's one good tip, never click on a .pif file. It's never going to be a picture.
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 12:13 PM) Assuming there's no way he's on roids now, he sure hit that homer a far way last night. In a way, I wish people would stop bashing everything he does, and just enjoy that they're seeing one of the greatest players ever on the field. Don't you mean one of the greatest players* on the field?
  5. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 11:19 AM) That's the thing with the awards this year is that there is no clear cut winner. Take the Cy Young, nobody has run away from the pack like Santana did last year. I think it might come down to how they do in the playoffs. It can't, the votes are collected before the postseason begins. My MVP is Ortiz but I can definitely see A-Rod winning it too as the DH debate always comes into play.
  6. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 11:42 AM) The take home message is that warm circumequatorial water is the engine for tropical storms. Any increase in seasonal high water temperatures or the duration of these seasonal highs will, on average, produce more and bigger tropical systems. If those increases are part of a natural large-scale cyclic event, the hurricane seasons will intensify. If the increases are due to human activity, the hurricane seasons will intensify. I agree, and now I'll go home.
  7. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 10:40 AM) Last year we had two guys K more than 100 times. That was Paulie with just over a 100 and Valentin with 139. So far this year. Arow 112ks wtih 29bb Gooch 109ks with 45bbs Kong 103ks with 73bbs Dead has 95ks and Everett has 91ks. The free swinging Juan Uribe has only 73ks. I looked at the AB statistics to try and gauge this. Everett has had the same number of ABs as Juan Uribe this year with 453. He is striking out about 1 in every 5 ABs. After last year, I can honestly say I expected more from Aaron Rowand than what he has shown in 2005. Crede's season numbers now are looking better than Everett's, something I wouldn't have expected to happen a few months ago, especially when comparing someone batting 9th to someone batting 3rd. I can't really be a good judge of Gooch's stats because he had alot of adjustments to make early on and has had a ton of ABs this year where he has had to give up a couple of strikes to let Pods try and steal.
  8. I agree Cleveland's defense is noticeably sub-par. I was disappointed in our defense because that is something the Sox have prided themselves of this year. It seems to desert us at the most inopportune times.
  9. QUOTE(Wiredawg1 @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 11:34 AM) WOW! If you guys don't make the playoffs, the team should look no further than that joke of a manager. He has given up on his players, and basically says he's ready to quit. I think the front office should beat him to the punch and fire him after they are eliminated from post season contention. And i'm not saying this to start any arguments, these guys are just flat out of gas. I'm a tribe fan yes, but I know how bad it hurts when you have a great team that can't get it done, (See 95, and 97 World Series') This team should be steam rolling into the playoffs with a 10 game minimum lead. I feel for you guys because i've been there. But the problems with this team unlike most is not with team talent, it's with team leadership. Good post, but I think talent is still a pretty big problem with this team in the offense department. That and we already know that managers can only affect a small percentage of the games their team plays in a given season. It's so much less than in football, basketball and probably hockey too because of the added effect of personnel substitutions, playcalling and clock management. I also don't think Ozzie is a great game manager but how many guys out there really are? Is Jack McKeon a great game manager, he looked like one in 2003 but he was never really considered one before. Is Terry Francona a great game manager? It's hard for me to measure these things but maybe someone can. I agree with the earlier poster who said that Ozzie wouldn't quit if this team won the World Series. It's true, he would become God in this town if they did but all of his "we stink" speeches sure don't help. I never really liked nor disliked Jerry Manuel and I feel the same way about Ozzie Guillen right about now. My emotions remain reserved for the players who seem to be choking this thing away right now.
  10. Well I was more under the impression that scientists were divided as to whether or not climate change is the primary factor in increasing hurricane frequency and/or strength.
  11. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 11:05 AM) Mad Money is easily the worst show on CNBC. The only person in the neighborhood is Suze Orman. Hey, there's not many guys willing to give real-time stock tips on any issue for free like that. Sure there's alot of day-trader mentality in the show, but a responsible investor can still glean some useful information from Jim. That and he's damn hilarious.
  12. http://www.madmoneychallenge.com Cramer is giving everyone 100k fun bucks to play the market for two and a half months. Let's go skee daddies.
  13. I was merely addressing the conclusions drawn in the article which really require a few logical leaps for me to make the same attributions they make. The correlation of rising sea temperatures and storm strength is strongly evidenced, but the degree of correlation is largely left up to the interpretation of a reader. By the end of the article, nothing is proven and it is concluded that the evidence only "strongly suggests" that "hurricanes tend to become more destructive." The problem is that people, and I don't mean to single out Balta, will throw out a blog link like this with such conclusions and add their own summary based on assumptions that the article proved something beyond a reasonable doubt. I'm glad to see progress is being made on the matter, but what action am I supposed to take when the scientific community remains so divided on a particular issue?
  14. Rowand and JD were disappointing in the field as well.
  15. It just makes a copy. So far there are some things I like better about Opera and some I don't. I do like that there's a ton more preferences to configure and change the look of my browser.
  16. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 08:24 PM) Are you attempting to play the blame game, because I'm not going to get into the blame game with you. I'm not convinced by that either and I ain't gonna be by another frickin blog.
  17. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 08:11 PM) I think we finally figured out who hired Gage to work for them... Low blow, that's a one point deduction.
  18. QUOTE(GASHWOUND @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 06:41 PM) Yeah..I've had Opera already on my system as my backup browser to Firefox if something went wrong and it is a great browser...although my Roboform doesn't work on it which keeps all my passwords and crap which sucks. Also, is there a way to copy all my bookmarks that are in Firefox to Opera's Bookmarks? Go to the Firefox Bookmark manager and do a File->Export on your bookmarks. Then in Opera you can just import them from the bookmarks.html file.
  19. THANKS COMCRAP. Combined with the high quality audio we've experienced this year, I'd say this channel is well on its way to surpassing FSN in quality.
  20. The 2nd inning? I think he looks dehydrated by the 2nd pitch.
  21. All the happiness from last night is still there but now 1 hour before gametime a little bit of that nervousness is creeping back in too. Come on Jonny boy, we could still use a strong start the way Garcia and Buehrle pitched.
  22. QUOTE(Felix @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 05:25 PM) I have never used it It's like recycling but you're saving Soxtalk instead of the Earth.
  23. MSNBC was saying it's something like the 5th largest storm ever recorded. I'm not sure if that was the exact statistic, maybe the 5th largest storm ever to hit the US.
  24. If you've ever seen one of these icons on a web site: Click it while you're in Opera and it will subscribe you to the news feed from that site. I use a program called SharpReader right now, basically it takes all the news feeds from the 50 or so sites I have subscribed there and gives me an easy way to browse all the headlines and read the stories that I'm interested in. I don't have to browse to each website to view all their stories but just go to my RSS reader.
