  1. Jon Garland = best pitcher in baseball for a few hours.
  2. I think the Dye topic is already beaten to death, but his defensive play is more frustrating than his hitting to me. It shows me that his offensive slump is carrying over into the field and giving the opposition extra bases, outs, and runs.
  3. It's so easy to just blame the hitting coach. How many hitting coaches did we go through under Manuel? And how often did it a result in a noticeable improvement? Jermaine Dye was a risk when we brought him on. His decline has been well documented over the past 3 years. Konerko is a streaky hitter. How many good half seasons has he had in the past 3 years? It's a struggle with him for consistency. Joe Crede's swing was a bit quicker coming into this season. Honestly I think he has already done more this year than any of us expected. I keep hearing references to people saying this would be "Crede's year" but I think for most of us, this was always just a pipe dream. We've been lucky to have some pretty darn good hitters here with guys like Maggs, Frank, and Carlos around. Podsednik doesn't need to hit .270 to succeed, just look at his on-base percentage. Try to keep some of these things in mind before thinking that ANY hitting coach could raise a team's batting average by 30 points or anywhere close to that.
  4. With guys like Dye and Konerko, Walker can only give advice. These guys have learned to work through their own slumps throughout their careers. It's not like they run to Greg Walker every time they go 0-4. In my opinion, the hitting woes relate to personnel. Konerko always had someone in the lineup protecting him whether it was Frank, Maggs, Carlos, or sometimes even Jose. Now Konerko has nothing and sees maybe one or two good pitches per at bat and tries to do too much with them. It appears Rowand is heating up and hopefully can restore some of that. Frank is also on the way and he almost always has good at bats which really tire a pitcher. When that happens, Konerko will see better pitches to hit and hopefully have less pressure on himself.
  5. Wonder Years was probably one of the best. I haven't seen MASH's but I hear good things. Family Matters was ok where it was between Steve and Stefan. Full House's sucked. Raymond's sucked. Seinfeld's sucked.
  6. El Duque really doesn't have an out pitch so he has to nibble. Hitters know the forkball is coming with Contreras. Viz I think his slider his easy to recognize.
  7. As of now, the only valid answer to this question is Minnesota.
  8. Why would anyone waste any time releasing a good movie right now? It's just the calm before the storm.
  9. It hasn't been very fun watching the games that Freddy starts lately.
  10. Hopefully the ESPN backing means the developers will be faster with bug fixes. This game has loads of potential.
  11. Garland has always kept his emotions under control on the mound. I like a pitcher who doesn't get too excited or too disappointed in himself. I think baseball games are emotional enough without having to express yourself on every pitch. DJ made a good point about Garland during his last start in Toronto. When Garland sucked, people said he didn't care and needed to show some emotion on the mound. Now that he's rolling, people say that Garland has "quiet confidence".
  12. Willie's hit was huge in his first game back. I can't imagine what he's going through right now, but it's great to see him help out in the big win tonight.
  13. Did anyone else feel confident down 3-0 that we were going to win this game? For some reason I never had a doubt in this one.
  14. Wow Pods has hit probably his two farthest balls of the season tonight.
  15. The new ESPN-branded beta with updated graphics is out. Still free while it's in beta. I haven't played yet but it looks pretty sweet. https://r.espn.go.com/espn/fantasy/baseball/ubo
