Milwaukee signs Eric Thames
I don't know why you'd non-tender a guy with an .821 OPS last year for a 30 year old former-AAAA player who dominated the Korean league (which is still an unknown as far as actual talent translation), but I can say I'm glad I'm not a Brewers fan. Carter would be a good pickup for the Sox as DH while rebuilding. Hell I'd even think he's a solid addition if they decide to go for it again for some reason (please don't).

Davidson foot almost healed
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 3, 2016 -> 02:30 PM) Matt Davidson was so fixed in his 4th season at AAA, his OPS was .001 higher than Leuri Garcia. He was better than he had been, but he still sucks. Garcia did hit .313/.367/.426, so that's not exactly terrible. Still you'd like to see higher numbers from Davidson than some AAAA middle infielder.

I'll never forget the TV call of that last out: "Palmeiro, over the head of Jenks. Uribe charges, throws... OUT! AND THE WHITE SOX HAVE WON THE WORLD SERIES!"

First broad look at 2016 draft class hitting performance
Good stuff. I'm surprised to see Collins with such pedestrian numbers in A+. He's a little young for the league, sure, but everything we heard about him was focused on his advanced bat and how it could push him through the system quickly.

Positive Carlos Rodon article on pitcherlist
http://www.pitcherlist.com/blog/gif-breakd...t-in-13-hd-gifs Talks about his ability to be dominating even though his control is pretty bad. Harnessing it could mean another very scary pitcher in our rotation.

Trade Deadline: Sox Make No Moves
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Aug 5, 2016 -> 09:39 AM) LOL - what in the world type of conversation can you have then for Chris Sale if these guys are not available, and presumably the Betts and Boegardts of the world were not available? There is absolutely NO conversation to be had then. That might be why Dombrowski said he hadn't talked to Hahn since Friday. He offered some crap for Sale, and Hahn didn't even bother replying.

Puig is getting moved
At this point he's worth a shot. It's going to be really hard for them to get an impact bat any other way than offseason trades, and even those will likely be prospects that have a chance to fail. Taking Puig and having him put up even last years numbers are an upgrade over Avi/Shuck/Coats. Of course there's a lot of risk here, but the Sox put themselves in a position where they need to take chances like this or they're going to be stuck in mediocrity for a while.

Yasiel Puig Trade Rumors
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 13, 2016 -> 05:07 PM) Saladino has a higher WAR than Bruce, who can only realistically DH on a contending club. That's because of Tyler's defense. Bruce is way better on offense. But you're right, the AL is probably the only viable destination for him. I still don't think the Reds are going to let him go for what the Sox would offer because there's no reason for them to. He's got another option year on his contract so they can likely pick that up (why not) and see what his market is in the offseason if no one blows them away at the deadline.

Yasiel Puig Trade Rumors
If the Dodgers don't want too much for him (Hawkins? Adams?), and I don't think they can ask for too much, given his reputation and numbers the last two years, he's a guy I'd take a chance on for sure. He's cooled off a bit lately, but over the last month he's hitting .317/.417/.467/.883. If you assume he'll bounce back even to last year's numbers (OPS+ 110), he's still miles better than Avi or one of our many 4th outfielders. I think Bruce and Cargo are pipe dreams at this point, so the Sox are in the position where they need to look at moves like this. No one's going to just give us currently productive players for nothing, we don't have much trade ammo left at all , and there isn't much on the free agent market next year.

2016 Cubs catch-all thread
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 5, 2016 -> 02:35 PM) Reds pitching be like "HIT THIS. HIT ALL OF THIS"The Reds announcers were talking about Russell and said something like "you can't just fire a fastball down the middle against him, you need to pitch on the corners and let up a little". Next pitch? Fastball fired right down the middle blasted for a 2-run HR.

Passan: Yordano Ventura on the block
I don't think the Royals would trade him to a divisional opponent directly, so you'd probably have to do something like we did with Frazier. They'd also have to talk to Shields to figure out if he'd be worth it, assuming Shields could help keep him under control, and see if the rest of the team actually wanted to play with him. I wouldn't be opposed to giving Ventura a shot, given we don't give up much of value in a trade. I just don't know if he'll ever be able to keep himself from being a total s***bag.

5/28 Game thread: @Kansas City, 1:15pm, WGN
QUOTE (Jake @ May 28, 2016 -> 04:43 PM) If you're focused on Robin, you're focusing too hard. Pulling Robo and then putting in Kahnle was *very* questionable, but when you're in the position to make those decisions you're beyond the point where managing is your main problemYeah. Probably not the best idea to put Robinson in there, but WTF how can your CLOSER not hold a 6 run lead in 1 inning of work? The bullpen is just horrible right now.

For the experts
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 26, 2016 -> 03:03 PM) I don't have any good study on that. You could spend a ton of time in the minors either way. If you count college, it probably equates pretty close to the same amount of overall years. Yes, there is the rare high schooler who is up at a super young age (drafted with minimal time in the minors) but it tends to be pretty rare. Usually guys get to the big leagues around similar ages, high school draft picks who make the show in general probably have a slightly younger age than the college equivalent but also a differing risk profile (and of course there are potential to strengthen / hurt your draft stock if you take the college path). Advice I'd give if it were my kid, unless it is a high draft choice, go to college and keep more of your options open (you still haven't closed off your potential for playing professional ball, but you also aren't hindering / setting back your potential for succeeding in other non-baseball professions if that path doesn't work. It seems like the only players to make it up at a very young age are the ones with projected hall of fame talent.

How many wins will Chris Sale have this season?
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 24, 2016 -> 03:22 PM) I think he gets 3 more wins than number of starts he has. We need to start putting him in the late innings of tie games.
