  1. Okay, guys, let's slow down here a little. Getz is a good player but he's more than likely not going to block Beckham, and we'd be nuts to trade Beckham unless it was for something spectacular. Far more likely would be Beckham moving to 3B and Fields moving to DH/1B, Alexei moving to CF, Getz being traded, Getz becoming a super sub with ~ 300 AB a season, or Alexei never repeating his rookie year success and being sent down to the minors or relegated to a bench role.
  2. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 03:55 PM) Step right up to claim your prize. I came here to say that. To pile on, Wise is a 31 year old journeyman I had not heard of until last year. If you bat him 9th, fine, whatever I'll complain less. But nothing is more irritating than the "you need the fastest guy leading off" argument. It's baseball stupid.He's not even the fastest. Getz is faster and smarter on the basepaths. And yeah, it's banging a broken drum by this point, but it's just such a mind-bogglingly bad idea to have Wise playing CF every day, much less bat him leadoff, that I think the broken-record complaints are warranted.
  3. QUOTE (kane0730 @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 03:46 PM) Fun stat of the game: The Sox are undefeated when Wise K's 3 times in a game.Obviously, he is the glue that holds together the gears of our White Sox.
  4. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 03:48 PM) still trying to figure out why they didn't bring in Mahay to face Thome...but I'll take it.My theory is, Trey Hillman religiously reads the dugout and wants to read the inevitable, hilarious confrontation between Thome and Farnsworth that will arise from this. For those of you who don't know: http://mlb.fanhouse.com/category/the-dugout/
  5. Chris Getz shows Wise how it's done. 1st and 3rd, 1 out.
  6. Wise bunts on 2-0 and barely avoids popping out to Olivo. ...And does the same on 2-1, popping it up over 1B dugout. Yes DJ, bunting should be almost automatic in the majors. You're the best players in the world. You should be able to do something I could do in little league.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 03:14 PM) Fields with the bunt single... means Wise should be bunting as well.Yes please.
  8. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 02:50 PM) Looks like another one of those "We don't win many games if we don't hit a HR" type seasons.Meche has kept the ball down and on the corners. You don't score many runs if all you do is hit grounders.
  9. We need to start making Meche work harder. KC doesn't have much of a bullpen besides Soria, but that won't matter if Meche lasts into the 8th.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 02:37 PM) Still, Brian Anderson is FAR from the answer at leadoff. It's the SAME exact problem we've been looking straight in the face for five months now. I like him at #9, with Getz leading off. I think that's the best we've got for now.
  11. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 02:31 PM) is a "quality start" 5 or 6 innings of 3 runs or less?Six IP,
  12. QUOTE (soxfan3530 @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 02:24 PM) Buerhle does not have it today....So far only 1 run given up, but yeah he's struggling mightily. Just hit Jacobs.
  13. QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 02:16 PM) even though I knew it was in jest we still cant have it. with this being a public forum everyone reads this stuff and they can take it the wrong way.Fair enough. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 02:20 PM) How many balls have we hit hard off Meche? 1? (Fields)More than that, they were just hit on the ground or at someone. Leadoff double for Teahen.
  14. Looks like my last post was either eaten, or deleted. To any mods who may have deleted it: it was a Simpsons quote, meant in jest. 2 outs, runners on 2nd and 3rd. Come on, Buehrle.
  15. Wise makes me laugh, then cry, then both. Getz with a hustle double/error.
  16. Meche is a tough pitcher. AJ honestly shouldn't be hitting higher than 8th at this point. I'm glad to get a run in with 2 outs, when Meche was probably thinking he was out of it with nothing.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 01:06 PM) Gordon homers to CF. 1-0 Royals.Sounded like a bomb.
  18. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 01:00 PM) And he's fighting off some good ones....And he Ks.
  19. QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 26, 2009 -> 02:20 PM) Shocking. http://www.hulu.com/watch/64512/late-night...g-jimmy-vs-anna She's hot, but wow was that clip boring.
  20. Sounds good to me, even though he's crazy.
  21. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 5, 2009 -> 03:31 PM) I think we are being a little too video game minded with this whole Getz situation. Mind you, I'm not advocating defending or rationalizing Wise as our starting CF or leadoff hitter, OKAY, TO READ WHAT I SAY AFTER THIS YOU NEED TO SIGN THAT YES YOU UNDERSTAND THAT FACT, but: Getz is a human, and it's not like a video game where if a guys an 81 contact hitter with good batting eye you can put him anywhere and that'll translate. We know little of the mental makeup of Getz, and perhaps with Ozzie there every day around him, he may actually know more about starting him off. The sox waited a long time to name Getz the 2nd even when it had become pretty clear. He may be someone they think needs to focus on getting good at bats, and hitting in front of Q means he's going to see a lot of fastballs, I think his confidence will build and then he'll move into the first spot of the rotation. Unfortunately, Ozzie's same judgment is likely the reason Wise is leadoff, Wise seems confident and respected in the club house, and that is probably the reason they feel he can lead off. Talent be damned. So if you're not defending Wise as the lead off hitter, but think Getz might not be able to do it, who should leadoff?
