Did Miguel Torres throw out the first pitch yet? I saw that he was supposed to do that sometime in May I believe. Miguel is a f***ing badass and we need some of his mojo right now.

Peavy Rejects Sox Offer; Deal Now Dead
Kenny Hates Prospects replied to rokimar's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The more I think about this deal the more I think the Sox should cave and pick up his option. If Peavy isn't worth $22M in 2013 then Kenny, being a ninja, can just sneak into his house and kill him in his sleep. As long as he erases the evidence, the Sox won't be forced to pick up the tab because of services not rendered. -

With Peavy's option exercised he's asking for $70M from 2010-2013 guaranteed. If the Sox re-worked the contract to $17M in 2010, $17M in 2011, $18M in 2012, $18M in 2013 would that work for anyone? I think that would be an easier pill to swallow in that case because then it's like signing him to a 4-year FA contract at about current market value (if you're the Yankees, Red Sox, etc.) Even then it's still a risk of course. But more palatable. Even front-loading the contract a bit kind of like what the Bulls did with Hinrich so that he's paid more in 2010 and 2011 before Q and Danks get into the star money (should they develop into stars of course). -

QUOTE (G&T @ May 21, 2009 -> 08:28 PM) I read the article and I don't know what's so inaccurate. It really has little to do with the Cubs, but more to do with the NL. So let's see... who is going to take on this whole contract? Hmm.... The Cubs can't afford it, in fact they can't do anything. The Astros can't do it, and neither can the Braves. No one in the NL sans maybe league rivals the Giants and Dodgers can. The Pads aren't eating salary. The Pads want to move him because they can't afford him. The Pads can't eat part of the contract and they would like some talent in return. Up to this point, the Sox have been the best suitor, which is why the Pads agreed in the first place. Now Peavy wants more than he's going to get. The only way he gets that option guaranteed is if he either goes to the AL or gets traded to a division rival for probably a smaller package of talent considering the increased payroll complications. He's asking for the impossible really. Rosenthal doesn't seem to get that. -

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 21, 2009 -> 07:46 PM) If this affair has taught me anything it’s that Ken Rosenthal is an ignorant midget who can go screw himself because no one will be stupid enough to do it for him. QUOTE (G&T @ May 21, 2009 -> 07:51 PM) Ken Rosenthal is a chode chug champion. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/9598700...-served-to-wait He wrote the above article talking about how Peavy made the right decision basically because the Sox suck now and probably will suck in the future, and the Cubs are a whole lot better. And what if the Cubs can't make any trade? And besides, f*** the Cubs anyway. -

Time to root for the Jays to tank and make Doc available. Other than that, who is there available that is worth pursuing? Bedard? When does King Felix hit FA? Lackey isn't getting traded. Haren? Webb over the offseason? -

QUOTE (fathom @ May 21, 2009 -> 05:51 PM) Question: was Peavy going to solve our situation at 3rd base, where we are getting nothing? Was he going to make Alexei and Getz start hitting, and magically cure Quentin's foot? Even with Peavy, there's no guarantee this was anything more than a 83-84 win team. The Tigers are much improved this season, so it's not like getting Peavy was going to guarantee us anything. I think the prospect lovers should be happy that we have the caliber of players that could land Peavy, and that we have a GM who knows when to cash in the chips at the right time. Getting Peavy would guarantee that Richard wouldn't be in the rotation and that Contreras and Count would get to fight over 1 spot instead of two. Getting Peavy would guarantee that we have a core starting staff at least 1-3 to build around. Getting Peavy would guarantee that we wouldn't have to score as many runs on any given fifth day. Getting Peavy would guarantee the fans that we're thinking about winning here, not a full rebuild. Getting a guy like that guarantees a lot, don't try to understate the value of proven starting pitching. -

QUOTE (rangercal @ May 21, 2009 -> 05:48 PM) f*** this season. 70 wins here we come. At least all the prospect lovers in the future sox forum are happy. No. Why would anyone be? When you have the opportunity to trade 4 guys, most of whom have about a 2% chance or less of achieving what Peavy has, for a legitimate ace to help you win both now and in the future, who is also in his prime, why would anyone NOT want to make that deal? -

QUOTE (tommy @ May 21, 2009 -> 05:42 PM) Do we know who the prospects were? Other than CR/AP It was two low-level (guess that means A+ and lower) pitching prospects out of a group of at least 4. They were PTBNL and the Padres were allowed to scout these guys and decide which two they wanted at a later date. Guessing Infante, Upchurch, Carter, Hudson, Leesman, etc. were probably discussed. Maybe a guy like Nathan Jones or something, or the guy we got from the Braves. It would have to be something good I imagine. -

QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ May 21, 2009 -> 05:01 PM) This team is just cheap, cheap, cheap. It really a shame, this would have done wonders to rejuvinate the entire fan base. Now, we get to deal with has beens, never beens and Brent f***in lillibridge. Option or not, there's no way that was a cheap contract. The Sox are not cheap. JR authorized to take his stank ass on. If the Sox guaranteed his option then he'd have wanted the full NTC through the deal. If the Sox did that then he'd want the fences moved back. If the Sox did that he'd want an analysis of the wind patterns of the Cell along with any necessary adjustments to the roof structure that would make it more of a pitchers park. If the Sox did that then he'd want them to change their uniform colors to red, white, and blue with a stupid animal on it inside of a C. And so on. He's a p**** and he's scared to pitch in the AL. That's why he declined this trade. f*** him. -

QUOTE (ChiSox420* @ May 21, 2009 -> 02:15 PM) Problem with Koalas is they sleep about 20 hours per day and if you hold them they will pee on you but I do agree Kangaroos are very sinister looking up close Never held one, just petted them. They're hilarious though. They just slink around with their eyes closed and will fall asleep as you're petting them. I was told that the reason they sleep so much is because the eucalyptus leaves the eat f*** them up, like they're drunk or high or something all day. -

QUOTE (fathom @ May 21, 2009 -> 02:14 PM) I can't believe Edwin Jackson ended up being so good so far. A lot of us missed that one. Not me. I argued at length for both him and Willy Taveras all offseason and ended up getting laughed at. Jackson showed serious signs of becoming a 2-3 starter last year. -

QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ May 21, 2009 -> 02:09 PM) Could the Sox renegotiate the back-end of the deal? Basically wipe out the option year and maybe have two guaranteed years at $15 or $16 mil? Not suggesting, just asking if they could do this and the union would sign off on it. It's lees money for him in that one year, but more money overall, that's why I ask. Why would he do that though? That's the same as $22M for one year and $8-10 the next. That $4M buyout means that unless he's hurt and/or half the nation is waiting in line at the soup kitchen, Peavy will at least equal that $22M salary in the first year of his new contract. -

In Australia there zoos to a lot more of this and you can get up close with Kangaroos pretty cool stuff +1 Koalas are very, very, very soft and cute. Kangaroos can be cool but they look at you funny, as if to say "If you didn't have food in your hand I'd kill you and make my own." -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 21, 2009 -> 01:36 PM) LOL, you dont think the Sox could come back from a 6 game deficit with not even 1/4 of the season over? Hilarious. Why DO you watch the White Sox? Yeah, this isn't the AL East. The Royals are a lot better, but I don't believe they're for real until they get some of these kids up (Melville, Hosmer, Moustakas, etc.) and the Tigers have pitching but also a lot of bad contracts that will hold them back. The Toons are either great or horrible, hard to tell, and certainly nothing to be scared of. The Twins aren't playing the same fundamentally sound baseball that we're used to, and I don't quite think they currently have the type of offense that will be needed once they move into a real baseball stadium. Peavy makes us worlds better. -
