  1. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ May 3, 2011 -> 10:00 PM) He would be the first on my list, then coaches and scouts. Even if they fire Walker, you will only see a temporary change. This team just seems to have guys who can't or wont make adjustments at the plate. Fire everyone, and then have the guy who fired everyone fire himself. And then hire no one.
  2. I think Walker needs to grab a bat and go take some hacks himself. No joke.
  3. LOL at the seat-colored camoflauge. Never realized that. And maybe they're silent because they're still trying to digest all those bulls*** marketing slogans.
  4. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 3, 2011 -> 09:47 PM) I would also like to point out since the Cell changed to Bobak's sausage the Sox have not played well. I think that we need to strike the Cell until they bring back whatever was before Bobak's because that is not good. LOL. I think the fans already are on strike. Damn weather!
  5. I blame Peavy. For all that money he's making you'd think he'd be kind enough to pick up some fake breasts and a pair of pom-poms. I want more out of my cheerleaders!
  6. No we don't, because you guys have sucked for a lot longer, and because your ownership/GM situation has been hilarious for over a decade. Teams that won't augment the farm with productive veterans, teams that won't trade prospects to make runs, teams that won't spend money - they're supposed to lose. If you guys had the kind of payroll this Sox team has had you'd have won something already. This s*** is just laughable for us as Sox fans because everything was in place for a realistic division title and deep playoff run. Look, you take butter, chocolate chips, flour, baking soda, vegetable oil, and eggs, and no matter where you are on the planet, if you mix those ingredients in a bowl you're going to get chocolate chip cookie dough. Somehow if you do the same while wearing a Sox hat, you end up with a turd. There's some weird alchemical transformation that goes on when you take a group of talented players and put them in Sox jerseys and unfortunately our GM and ownership has yet to figure out enough of the formula to buck the trend.
  7. QUOTE (Real @ May 3, 2011 -> 09:32 PM) All in your ass, is a great title? wite gets it.
  8. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 3, 2011 -> 09:23 PM) Disagree. If you already paid for the tickets may as well go out and have a good time. Right. Have a good time getting absolutely hammered and heckling the players on the home team. Put a bag over your head and shout obscenities at Southpaw. Make advances towards concession girls. Go Sox.
  9. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ May 3, 2011 -> 09:28 PM) You should really rethink the title of this thread. I think it's a great title actually. Very fitting.
  10. This team needs to be treated like those guests on that old Nickelodeon show where slimey green sludge fell on their heads. Who here knows what I'm talking about?
  11. Congrats guys. You are the official disappointment kings of 2011.
  12. This whole organization is full of losers, chokers, and softies, and being that AJ is not one of them, it certainly makes sense that he'd have some enemies right now. There is zero reason for a team with this much talent to pack in it, night after night, series after series. This is the same s*** they did this time last year, only Kenny and Ozzie could be blamed for it that time. Now, there's no one to blame but the sorry ass players themselves. It's not September yet, boys, and these aren't the Twins. You don't have to tuck tail yet! Maybe Kenny needs to send off everyone who has a problem with AJ and fire Ozzie's ass too. Change the culture and just start this whole damn thing over. Please, Mark Buehrle, go somewhere else and win. You too AJ, and same with Paulie. John Danks - what a great call on not signing that extension! Money aside, why would anyone with your abilities want to play here? Go make some cash and win some games elsewhere. This team is 100% capable of not only righting this ship but trouncing those pretenders atop the division, winning the division, making the playoffs, and winning a WS. The talent is definitely there. But this AJ hating s*** is exactly why they'll do nothing but founder once again when the going really gets tough. This is a rant, but I mean Jesus, it's like half the noteworthy and conversation inducing team related events occur over Twitter posts by a Guillen family member. That's what we get as Sox fans instead of a baseball season, Guillen family Twitter drama. And choking. And now hating on AJ?! Really?! If you're a player and AJ's behavior is pissing you off then how about you take out yout tampon and let your balls drop and take it out on the field of play instead of confiding in some dbag Score host. Ugh. I'm done now.
  13. If I had to make a prediction right now I'd say Kenny will acquire Brandon League. Just a feeling. Seems like a Kenny target, and League should be available. Make the deal and then extend him as a closer. Otherwise I think it'll be Frank Francisco or K-Rod. I could see Hanrahan too, he's another typical Kenny target. Kenny will get a reliever.
  14. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Mar 24, 2011 -> 08:44 AM) You do realize what a utility player is right? Because neither De Aza or Danks are that. They are both not as good anyways. Teahen has a decent bat. It's not great but it's fine for a bench player. Teahen can serve as a back-up at 4-5 positions, thus the utility moniker. If we eat Teahen's contract it means he is replaced by Lillibridge. Are you going to argue that he is a better player? I'd hope not. Using De Aza or Danks in your argument is comparing apples to oranges. And even if not, how you could make a case for D2 being a better player than Teahen at this point baffles me. Say what you want about the guy, but contract aside, Mark Teahen is one of the better utility player options out there. A utility player covers multiple positions. DeAza and Danks can cover LF, RF, CF. Teahen can cover LF, RF, 1B. All three have only 3 positions they can cover, so none of these guys are really all that special when it comes to a utility role, and none are prototypical utility players. Teahen's best quality, and where he has the advantage, is with the bat. The other two have the advantages of covering a difficult position in CF. Teahen can cover 4-5 positions the way Ty Wigginton can play SS or Rob Mackowiak could play CF. His time in CF, 2B, 3B doesn't count. If we're still going to be penciling Teahen in at 3B then we might as well consider Omar a CF and Lilli a 1B. Might as well use Castro in LF. Lillibridge is better than Teahen in that he can play multiple skill positions which Teahen cannot. He's also a better pinch runner option. Deciding who the better player is between the two comes down to the needs of the team. Personally I'd rather have Lillibridge over Teahen and have that defensive versatility, but whatever. A bench of Castro, Omar, Lilli, and Milledge would be just fine with me if it's 4 men. If we have to take Teahen then I'd take 5 bench guys and leave off the extra pitcher since we're not going to be bringing a legitimate major league pitcher up as that extra bullpen guy. Give me the extra bench guy over the extra gas can please.
  15. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 8, 2011 -> 09:44 PM) I thought he has to accept the assignment when a team tries to send the player directly to the minors without passing through waivers, and if he doesn't agree to the assignment, he has to go through waivers before he gets assigned, that way he has a chance to get picked up by another MLB team. Is that wrong? IIRC, a player has to go through waivers any time he's removed from the 40-man roster OR any time he is sent to the minors as an out-of-options player. I'm pretty sure that any player who passes through waivers unclaimed, regardless of his status, can either accept a minor league assignment (if offered) or elect free agency instead. The money is guaranteed though, so the player still gets paid. Usually guys like Teahen are DFA'd, pass through waivers, and then are straight released. Edit: nevermind, it does appear a player has the right to reject an assignment only after he's accumulated enough service time. Here's something from Rob Neyer:
  16. I have to believe the Sox could get *some* small amount of salary relief out of Teahen if they wanted it. If the Sox want Lilli on the team and want to also take 12 pitchers, then Teahen should be moved this spring. I've brought this up a thousand times before, but maybe Rowand would be a possibility this year? There's speculation the Giants may be considering releasing him, but a deal where we trade Teahen for Rowand with the Giants eating the salary difference would be much better for them IMO, and it would also give us a better 4th OF than DeAza. Both Rowand and Teahen have 2 years remaining. Of course the Giants have DeRosa so who knows if they'd be interested. But yeah, I'd like to go with 12 pitchers no matter what happens with Peavy, and a Castro ©, Omar (3B, 2B, SS), Lillibridge (LF, CF, 2B, 3B, SS), Rowand (LF, RF, CF) 4-man bench is very versatile defensively and pretty well-rounded, with some speed, a little pop, and a little fundamental skill as well. We'd lack a lefty bat (and as much as I hate Teahen I really do like penciling his bat in on the bench) but I'd much rather go with defense first, and if we decide later on we don't need 12 pitchers we could always find a meh-ish lefty stick somewhere as long as we don't need that guy to play defense.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 8, 2011 -> 05:24 PM) With his lack of defensive skills/experience, the abundance of DH's on this team, and the likelihood of other RH hitting OF players on the bench (Milledge or De Aza), it's hard for me to believe that Viciedo getting 3 starts a week would be worth an extra win to this team even if he hit well. I think Viciedo on the bench over Teahen for the course of a full season is a big help, greater than 1 win but impossible to quantify exactly, although it probably makes the most sense to keep him playing regularly in Charlotte. But that said, it's hard to watch this guy swing the bat and not want him on the team right now.
  18. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 6, 2011 -> 06:51 PM) 2012--the Sox have 12 players signed right now for 93.5 million. They better win this year. Most of those guys could be moved in a heartbeat though. Paulie would probably be difficult to deal without eating salary. Peavy and AJ could easily be moved if enough salary were eaten since they'd be in the last years of their deals (Sox would have to eat the buyout on Peavy probably). Teahen wouldn't go anywhere without paying the majority, or perhaps entirety, of his contract. But other than that we're really not in trouble. If we had to open a firesale we could do it and come away with a ton of prospects. I think where organizations get into trouble is when they're nearly maxed out in payroll and most of it is tied up in players they can't at least dump. And I think that even if we did have to blow it all up, we'd still have enough assets to sell and enough open payroll room to kind of rebuild on the fly, to where we're competitive again in 2-3 years.
  19. Domino's Pizza Guy: Hello, Domino's. Beltin' Bill Melton: Hi. You guys serve pizzers here? Domino's Pizza Guy: Huh? Beltin' Bill Melton: You know, porters, potatoes....powzers? Domino's Pizza Guy: Pizza? Beltin' Bill Melton: Yeah, sure. Domino's Pizza Guy: Uh huh... Beltin' Bill Melton: I'd like one of those with surges, or satchels, and martians. Domino's Pizza Guy: What???
  20. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Mar 7, 2011 -> 03:35 PM) I'd bet Morel is officially named starting 3B sometime soon. This facade of a competition in order to not slight Teahen has about run its course. It's not about giving Teahen a chance: nobody cares about Teahen at all. It's all about making your young 3B feel like he has to earn his spot, and that's exactly what the Sox should be doing. The real (unfortunate) issue is that Teahen, because of his contract, is on the team no matter what. But oh well. Maybe he'll get a pinch hit here or there. As long as Ozzie does whatever he can to keep him off the field when it matters, especially at 3B. BTW reading through this thread it sounds like Melton's ready for Opening Day already.
  21. I don't see how Doom Shroom would fit. I don't see how it would describe Morel. A mole is a pest that lives in the dirt and "steals" from a gardener or farmer. And farmers/gardeners show their respect for moles by swearing at them and trying to kill them, but still the mole persists - see that Married With Children episode where Al Bundy goes apes*** trying to kill one in his back yard (I think it was a mole). This to me sounds a lot like what Brent Morel will be to the AL Central. Not really a star or anything where other teams have to admit the guy is a good player, just the scrappy kind of scavenger that robs the opposition late in games and comes up with big hits despite average overall offensive numbers.
  22. Just watched a clip on MLB.com where Ozzie pronounced Morel as "Mole." If Beckham = Bacon then does Morel = Mole? It could make sense since he'll be dug in at third and I'm sure he'll end up getting pretty dirty over there.
  23. This trade doesn't happen because this isn't the NBA. None of the reasons mentioned would hold up a deal on Kenny's part, either. If the Cards were batty enough to call up THE Kenny Williams and offer that deal, he'd do it without hesitation.
  24. ^BTW isn't it hilarious that the second-worst winning percentage we put up vs. the Twins in the last 11 years happened AFTER they got rid of the dome? You couldn't script this s*** any better if you're a Twins fan.
  25. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 22, 2011 -> 09:47 AM) There's a difference between giving credit where credit is due and giving them a blowjob whenever they possibly can. If there are any blowjobs, they are occurring on the field of play and nowhere else. Sox record vs. Twins: 2000: 7-5 (.583) 2001: 5-14 (.263) 2002: 8-11 (.421) 2003: 9-10 (.474) 2004: 9-10 (.474) 2005: 11-7 (.611) 2006: 9-10 (.474) 2007: 9-9 (.500) 2008: 9-10 (.474) - this includes game 163 2009: 6-12 (.333) 2010: 5-13 (.278) These years were contention years, and this is how we did vs. the Twins down the stretch those years: 2000: 4-2 over last 6 2003: 2-5 over last 7 2005: 7-3 over the last 10 2006: 4-8 over last 12, but the final 3 games didn't matter (we were out of it), so actually 2-7 over the last 9 that mattered 2008: 2-6 over last 8 including game 163 2010: 3-10 over last 13 Since the last full rebuilding effort ended with the 2000 season, we've run out two teams over the last 11 years that were capable of beating the Twins. The 2000 team had the best record in the AL and was tied (with Atlanta and St. Louis) for the second-best record in all of baseball, two games behind the Giants. In 2005 we also had the best record in the AL and the second-best record in baseball, one game behind St. Louis, and of course everyone knows what happened that year. So yeah. And this s*** has gone on well before Ozzie got here. And LMAO at anyone trying to make it out like Hawk has anything to do with it. GTFO.
