Carlos Rodon to the DL, will not pitch again in 2017
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 8, 2017 -> 07:32 PM) Bummer. Could be worse I guess. Hopefully he can pitch 200 innings in 2019 or 2020 The Nationals would like that.

Giolito is a lot of fun to watch pitch. It's not dead brain heaving.

Alburquerque & Volstad recalled
Last year was the first time since 1932 the Sox used 50 players, which was a franchise record. When Volstad and Alburquerque pitch, that will be 51 for the season.

September Call Ups
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 8, 2017 -> 01:23 PM) Why? He gives Bartolo a run for his money.

September Call Ups
QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Sep 8, 2017 -> 01:18 PM) Chicago White Sox @whitesox 9s Prior to tonight’s game, the #WhiteSox purchased the contracts of RHPs Al Alburquerque & Chris Volstad from Charlotte. I had a feeling that was going to happen with Holland, Petricka, and Rodon gone. Really wanted to see Machi in a Sox uniform.

2017 MLB Catch-All Thread
The 2018 schedule should be out next week. I've seen the Mets (it got leaked). The season will be four days longer (starting Thursday, March 29) which means 24 off days instead of 20. The Sox will play the Cubs six games. They'll play the Reds, Brewers, Cardinals, and Pirates- two of which will be 2-game series home and away.

2017 2nd Wildcard Thread
If the Royals want to get back in it, they need to sweep the Twins (win the three remaining) and White Sox at home. If they sweep the Twins this weekend, the whole group of seven contenders have a shot.

Phillies sched: 3 at Was 3 vs Mia 3 vs Oak 4 vs LA 3 at Atl 3 vs Was 3 vs NYM Not out of the question they go 10-12. That would be 99 losses. The Sox would have to go 8-15 the rest of the way.

QUOTE (SoxPride56 @ Sep 8, 2017 -> 10:45 AM) We are 1.5 GB of the Phillies. He means the Sox have to be 2.5 games worse with the remaining schedule to have a higher pick.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Sep 8, 2017 -> 09:39 AM) A couple wins from the Giants only moves the needle one game. A sweep would be 3. Obviously, but it's hard to assume any team is going to sweep another team at any time--especially on the road. That would be a pretty awesome though. I just hope Giolito pitches well, and then the bullpen gives it up. After that, the rest of the weekend is gravy.

Cleveland at Our Sox
That's where the "critical mass" comes into play. Can't have enough arms, and you just have to hope. And yeah, if Rodon is getting scratched right before a September start, just shut him down. Call Danks and Holland if you want.

QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Sep 7, 2017 -> 10:55 AM) Yeah I don't get the magic bold number thing at all either lol. I'm not the only one!!! Normally the Magic Number thing is used for teams that are about to win a division, and the number goes down by one if the first place team wins, or the second place team loses. Example- AL East Red Sox 79-61 Yankees 74-64 How the Magic Number is figured- Games left, plus 1, minus games ahead in loss column. In the Red Sox case: 22 games left +1 (23) - 3 games in the loss column = 20 Their Magic Number is 20. For every Red Sox win it goes down by one. For every Yankees loss, it goes down by one. When the Magic Number is Zero, they've clinched the AL East. ---- In the White Sox case, I did the opposite, taking in consideration they only have to be as bad as the Giants, Mets, and Tigers, and a full game worse than the rest in the bottom 9 teams in the league. So the A's number is 20. If the Sox go 12-12, then the A's can go 8-15, and they'd still be below the Sox in draft order. If the A's went 7-16, they'd have a better pick.
